    I installed this plugin but didn't really understand all it's functions. I found your tutorial and set me on the right path. Immediately tried on my vocal and man what a nice sound. Your way of communicating and tone of voice is also a big plus. Some videos want to scream at you. Nice job.

      @@FrenchtownMedia I actually installed and demo'd on some vocals and I'm really blown away. I don't have access to my UAD rig so I tried this out and it sounds like it's in the same realm of quality as UAD's 1176s. Insane. Gotta love free gems like this. Thank you so much for the motivating demo!

    You should really be gain matching when showing off compression plugins. It's hard to tell if it sounds better just because it's louder or if it's actually the plugin itself.

    Does the drive function saturate the input signal or the output signal?
    Btw awesome video👍

    • @FrenchtownMedia
      @FrenchtownMedia  3 года назад +4

      Thanks a lot for watching! My understanding is that the drive function saturates the input and this allows you to control the intensity of the compression. By using more drive, the compressor will work harder as it is processing a louder signal. Hope this helps!

    I don't quite understand the numbers on the gain and peak reduction knobs. Usually these are db, but I've never seen 100 db. How exactly do I interpret this?

    • @FrenchtownMedia
      @FrenchtownMedia  2 года назад +1

      Yes it is a bit confusing. Whenever I set a parameter I try to go to the max so I know what I’m listening for and then tone it down by ear.

    all I wanted to do was to process a track to automatically make entire, lower-volume flute riffs louder, and higher-volume flute riffs softer so they were all closer to the same volume. I know I can probably do this by studying it all again... I just can't believe no leveler compressor just has presets that do this fairly well right out the "gate" so to speak. The default settings didn't seem to level my flute track whatsoever, just make the whole thing fuller and louder.

    great video! subbed. would you mind clarifying the purpose of the SC HPF? didn't totally make sense to me. 🙌

    • @FrenchtownMedia
      @FrenchtownMedia  4 года назад +1

      Sorry, WIll! I know exactly what you are talking about! When you have a side-chained hi-pass filter, it only affects the compressor. A lot of the time, compressors can have strange effects trying to process low frequencies, so the HPF allows us to stop sending signals that exceed a certain threshold. You will not hear the difference, but the compressor will ignore all signals outside of the frequency range and you set that range with the SC HPF control. Hope this helps!! :)

      @@FrenchtownMedia cool! do you mean it only affects the high frequencies? you wrote "compressor," but i think I'm reading between the lines correctly?

    • @FrenchtownMedia
      @FrenchtownMedia  3 года назад +2

      It actually only effects the low frequencies. It stops sending low frequencies to the actual compressor and that makes the compressor respond differently as there are no low frequencies to process. This is often useful because low frequencies can have strange effect on compressors.
