Also let's not forget the most enduring contribution of the Carolingian Renaissance: Carolingian miniscule aka lower case letters.

You avoid to stress out his influence on Popes and the fact that Charles the great wanted fervently to be remembered as roman emperor.
In the council of Frankfurt (794) Franks condemns the eastern romans as being ''greeks'' and heretics. So, from that on, greek became an infamous term in western europe.
They condemned also the 7th Ecumenical council in Nicea. The Franks wanted to become successors of western roman empire but Constantinople opposed to that because German tribes were always heretics (and pagans in Germany) and never under roman control. Pope Hadrian I was present.
The hatred of west and east evolved from that time on.
The answer from East came almost a century later.
The council in Constantinople (879) condemned the councils of Charles the great of Frankfurt (794) and Aachen (809) and excommunicated those who denounced the 7th ecum. council and altered the statement of faith. Pope John 8th was also present.

Charlemain not only caused the death of his brother Karlman, but managed to kill Karlman's two sons, so assuring his own throne from future pretensions.
CM was an acute prevident ruler in eliminating one after the other all potential obstacles to the extension and consolidation of his Empire (e.g. exterminating the potent saxon aristocracy using the pretext of their paganism; occupying the principal isles of the mediterranean to avoid them falling in the hands of the cancerous muslim pirates who already detained the principal Egean isles like Crete in the heart of the East Roman Empire.
With the conquest of Gotalandia ( Cataluña) he acquired a deffensive, immediate outpost to surveil the arabs in Spain. That Europa was not engulfed by the arabs and the Mamelouks ,is another important achievement for which we have to thank CM.
The protection of the papacy, constantly menaced by the roman aristocratules who wanted to control the papal throne, has saved catholicism to become a romanicule commercial entreprise in the hand of autentic cretins or ambitious females like Marozzia ,who could place her 12 year old son on St Peters throne ! (Gregorovius) which signifies that she, Marozzia, would govern the universal church !
The only daughter CM accepted to give in marriage to a court attendant, was Hiltrud (787->814) wo married Eberhard I Graf von Calw (775-811), head of the unique linear uninterrupted descendance from CM.
Alle the political, mental, spiritual qualities of CM remain untold, perhaps to avoid our present politicians to feel
uncompetent, shortseeing, and profoundly stupid, seeking in an atomic war the final solution for all of our present and future problems..

Another long term (though unintended) impact of Charles the Great: by making Bohemia tributary, he likely founded the Czech state by forcing the population to self-organize in order to collect and pay the annual tribute. Charlemagne was one of the greatest Emperor's(and frankly, hero's) that Europe ever produced. A true warrior king, but also a philosopher. He himself didnt learn how to read during his lifetime(though he literally kept trying to learn, up to the day he died in his old age; modern people say he was dyslexic, and that esp in his later years, he prob had eyesight problems - up close, so he would have been proscribed reading glasses if he were alive today.
But he made sure that all his sons learned how to read from a young age. He himself would sit in during the lessons where the scholars would educate his sons, to try to learn himself; but he never learned how to read. He did acquire a great deal of actual knowledge though, its just that he couldnt write it down himself, and whenever he wanted something written, he would dictate it to a scribe who would write it down for him. Im pretty sure he could only write his name(and he also had his seal aka his imperial signet ring to cover in wax and stamp on official documents and important letters without having to sign it directly).
Charlemagne was also a giant, ESPECIALLY for his time. He was 6 foot 4 in height and a muscular man; considering he was a true warrior king this isnt surprising but his height was very notabe(esp cause his dad was Pippin the Short).
6 foot 4 is tall TODAY; now imagine how tall that is compared to the height of the average man in the middle ages during Charlemagne's time, when it was common for men to be about 5 foot 5, 5 foot 6(because of bouts of malnutrition during childhood and adolescents, many people speculate); and Today, the natural average height of European descended people, as well as most races/nationalities of people in this day and age, has grown increasingly taller, with they say 5'9 to 5'11 being the average height of a man in America; and 6 foot even to 6 foot 2 being relatively common among certain races. So even TODAY Charlemagne would be a Big dude esp considering the fact that he was a heavily muscular warrior king who fought on the front lines(when necessary) and had a long and successful military career, both as a general directing his troops but also being renowned in his personal combat skills. He was like Philip II and Alexander the Great in those ways(that he was a renowned General, Warrior, as well as the Head of State). Charlemagne was, and is, and will always be extremely impressive in all ways. Even though he couldnt read personally, he still understood the awesome value of knowledge and of letters; made sure his kids learned to read as mentioned; and he's the reason many of the Ancient Roman and Greek books survive to this day thanks to him having the monks copy them, a tradition which continued since then. They were doing it before in other places but not in Germany or most of France and it wasnt near as wipespread till Charlemagne made the copying of the ancient works an Imperial Mandate.
And despite what the jealous and fearful Byzantines say(who regarded themselves as the Romans, though they were actually Greek and spoke Greek even for those with a Latin Roman background, and were thoroughly hellenized), they wouldnt allow Charlemagne to officially take the title of Augustus/Roman Emperor, and wouldnt send him the Western Roman Imperial regalia that he deserved as being King of the Western Romans, the city of Rome included(governed by the Pope but it was a protectorate of Charlemagne, so he could do whatever he wanted there and still be the Pope's golden boy).I heard that, besides the obvious Byzantine rivalry and hatred of the Latin knights like the Franks, and other former Western Roman subjects, as well as regarding the Franks as basically one step above a straight up Barbarian from the steppe(like they also regarded pretty much all the former Western Roman people), the Byzantines had some weird idea where they thought that giving Charlemagne the regalia entrusted to them by Alaric the goth who finished off the Western Roman empire, and giving Charlemagne their official blessing and authorization to be called King of the Romans/Emperor of the Romans, he would then have authority over THEM and he would somehow or another come to Constantinople, take it, and rule the Eastern Roman Empire. Even though their fears were utterly absurd, they had no right at all to deny Charles that title; and thats why the Pope crowned him Holy Roman Emperor instead. If you look back at Western Roman history esp during the 3rd century with the soldier Emperors you'll see that someone like Charlemagne being Emperor was NOT uncommon.
And the Byzantines giving him that title wouldnt have affected them in any way; in fact it had a great chance of actually Reuniting the east and west Roman empire and healing the rift. But i wasnt to be thanks to court intrigue by jealous Byzantine Eunuchs. Charles was gonna marry the Byzantine Roman empress Irene but that was sabotaged by a eunuch in her regime who didnt want the Franks having a claim on Byzantium among other reasons many of them petty and lowly.

Just setting the changeover as going from before the current era to the current era is actually a more traditionalist approach, and not subject to the ongoing argument around when exactly does AD begin?

Aquataine must be the watery part of Aquitaine. At this time Saracen = Arab Muslims (versus Amazigh/Berber Muslims, Persian Muslims, & Egyptian Muslims); by the 12th c it meant Muslims in general and, more specifically, Muslims from, or ruled from, the 'East' meaning Damascus or Baghdad and at times Cairo (not from Morocco and usually, but not always, did not include Algerian &/or Tunisian Muslims). AB-a-sid, not a-BAS-id. What you name the 'western Slavs' were actually the southern Slavs which is the name given to them when Yugoslavia, i.e. Southern Slavs, was created. Northern Slavs were Czech & Slovakia and Eastern Slavs were Kievan; there is no agreed-upon 'western Slav' grouping. Re: the preservation of Latin texts and 'western tradition' - think that was more the result of the schools at Baghdad that had gathered, copied, translated virtually all the ancient texts ~8th c. While some were done under Charlemagne, those works were lost or destroyed and, therefore, not able to have a role in keeping that knowledge available; I do not recall any texts in Baghdad coming from Aachen though some may have. Charlemagne was crowned Holy, not Western, Roman Emperor because there was no crowned Roman Emperor in the East. In 800 CE Byzantium was ruled by an Empress which the Pope stated was the equivalent of not being ruled and, since those in Constantinople were not doing their job and appointing an Emperor, he had to do it for them.

Visigoth = WestGoth / Astrogoth = Eastgoth. That were Germanic tribes just like the Franks (which were a Germanic tribe confederation) ... it was more helpful if all youtubers start to use names which are better understood instead of just copy-paste. Apropos: there was no Clovis. The name was Chlodwig which is a cognate of Ludwig (just like with Ludwig van Beethoven or King Ludwig who created Neuschwanstein etc. - apropos, Louis also is just a later localized version of Ludwig). A guy with the name Charlemagne also never existed. His name was Carl or Karl -der Grosse (latinized 'Carolus Magnus'). He spoke a Germanic/Frankish dialect and could only read Latin. His latinized name was usually used by chronologist of that time in written text (kind of slightly Germanized medivial Latin btw.) ... the reason why is is named 'der Grosse/the Great' is unclear. Might be due to what he archived, might be due to his size (1.84m, which was really huge at that time) or both. And no, Paris was not the capital of the Franks all the time. Karl der Grosse (Charles the Great) chose Aachen (just like many Kings later from the Holy Roman Empire) if they chose a capital in the first place. Aachen/Germany is also where Carl created the Cathedral and other stuff - and where his Shrine is, if you want visit him (or what he might be him). He is mummified btw, and there are text about ppl who investigated later a bit and noticed that he was still in a good shape due to that. Many Frankish ruler just wandered around without an explicit capital ...

Problem with BC/AD is not religious in nature - it's that there is no agreed upon changeover from BC to AD since the birth of Christ ranges from 3 BC to ~2 AD. Just setting the changeover as going from before the current era to the current era is actually a more 'old fashioned' approach, and not subject to the ongoing argument around when exactly does AD begin?

Doesn't matter although Jesus could not have been born later than 4 BC. Reckoning the years is the same number either way, so we may as well use the dates to honor God!

Why is there a picture of a black rapper on a video about a Frankish king, for god's sake, can't I get away from 'diversity' ANYWHERE?

did you listen to what he said? apparently not, for he answered that question. now to answer you question: no, you cannot escape diversity. it is literally everywhere.
example: your mom and dad? are diverse from each other. even if they were same sex twins with identical genes there wouldcstill be diversity
