    A fishing kayak is big investment. You can protect that investment with the addition of a keel guard. With a keel guard you don't have to worry about running the kayak up on concrete ramps, rocks, or reefs. They take only minutes to install and can increase the lifespan of your kayak.

    I ordered a "mini rolling pin" (3M) from amazon, to help smooth out the gator patch, when I apply it to my boat.

    Man you did a good job on your kayak. I never thought about that but I think I need to do that to my kayak. I seen some scratches on the bottom too. Great video man. Thank you for sharing it.

    Another excellent and helpful video. I was thinking about getting this product but I wonder, once it requires replacement how easy would it be to remove? It's hard plastic so I assume some careful sanding?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад +1

      You can sand it off but a putty knife, solvent, and some elbow grease is a better option.

    I personally would not have painted it, because its all just going to get scratched off and look worse but love the wrap to protect bottom side like that.

    Question for you, do you know anything about sea eagle inflatable kayaks? Are they good?
    Thanks

      Never used one but know of several other anglers who do. I regularly see folks fishing out of Sea Eagle rafts.

    Hey Tyler. First of all, your videos are great! Spend a lot of time on your channel. Thank you. What do you think about the jb weld application for a keel guard? Seems like the cheapest application along with the most protective.

      @spiltmilt  Год назад +1

      Have not heard of that approach.

    @Split Milt Production - How's this keel guard holding up? I have a new Big Water 132 that I've taken out once and now noticed a few scratches. Would like to see how your held up since the install. Verbiage description is good. Photo's would be helpful too. Thanks for your time and effort putting this together.

      Still looks good. The guard is scratched up but that is kind of the point. I'll post a pic on my community wall soon.

    Excellent video as always. I saw you posted a picture of you fishing for albacore a few days back. Do you worry about the mercury content of tuna at all?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 года назад +1

      I do try and limit tuna intake across the year due to mercury. Thankfully the young Albacore Tuna off the Pacific Northwest coast do have not lived long enough to bioaccumulate the high mercury contents found in most commercially available tuna. Based on the mercury content in fish sampled off our coast by OSU and recommendations for mercury consumption by health officials I try and limit my intake to less than 8 oz per week across the year.

      @@spiltmilt Oh wow I wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense since they are much smaller than their full grown, deep sea counter parts. How many days per week do you eat fish? It seems like you fish on a pretty regular basis so I'm just curious.

    One of the things that you should do is get yourself a j roller they're not that expensive they use them for laminate when they're putting down laminate on a substrate for cabinets or countertops and what's that j roller you can bear down and mash that glue that's on that keel guard right into the fiberglass of the boat or the plastic I did the same thing that you're doing right now on the front of my kayak then along the back where you got the gunnels where it's flat on the on the outside of the gunnels I put the 4-in wide pieces on the back so when you pull it up if it happens to hit the rocks it protects it in the back and I use that j roller if when before I put the j roller to it even though it was in the sun that heated it up with a heat gun just a little bit to make it more pliable and I put good pressure on it and I've been using it now since July and into the weather that we have now and I haven't had no problems with it or was it trying to peel or anything else Good video

      @@spiltmilt Oh good, didn't see it on the video. What about wiping with alcohol only to sand afterwards and then touching the surface with your hands and not cleaning the surface before applying the guard. Did you fix that too and not showing it in the video? Just wondering....
