Webb is one of the first black models to speak truth to the powers that be in the fashion industry to promote equity and better treatment of black ppl, not just models, but all ppl of color in the industry before it became a thing. She always used her platforms to showcase and push up other black models. There are numerous times both Tyra and Naomi have recounted the impact Webb had on their careers. She paved way for them and others that came after them to have the careers they've had. They don't give her enough credit. She deserves all the flowers and more.
If Naomi's holding your hand and walking down the runway with you, you really mean something to her.
Can you be more specific about her promoting positive images of other black ppl, women in particular, especially in the era of the mid 90s-00s? I cant recall her making other women look good unless they are other supermodels with the same body type/height/weight

I got my chance to meet Veronica Webb over 25 years ago. She was a polite and lovely lady. I was 20 years old and worked at the Reebok Sports Club....now the Equinox in NYC. Many celebs would go because one of the major studios was across the street from the gym. Anyway, I was pregnant with my eldest son and she came to me to ask me for help and then she started to talk to me and wished me the best for my pregnancy and my move with my husband to California.

When I saw the name Veronica Webb the first thing I thought about was my days in New York. I saw her around town a few times and she always appeared pleasant and really pretty with hardly any makeup on. Just seemed like a down-to-earth city girl who would just happen to grace the covers of Vogue and the runways of NYC and Paris.
I remember that store! Columbus Avenue wen there were Soo many cool shops from like the upper 80s to 66st ABC Channel 7 main location still there too 😊 Thats wen NYC was golden ❤
She is a classic beauty. They usually do have some “simple”ness to their looks but it doesn’t make them any more or less attractive.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She wasn’t all that to me. 🤷🏽♂️ I grew up around the fashion industry. My mother was a model, and she was more striking than Veronica Webb was. I hated going anywhere with my mother because we couldn’t even eat in restaurants half the time without people approaching our table. I believe to this day that she didn’t blow up because we stayed in Seattle.
Veronica was definitely attractive. It’s just that her look was more “commercial” than “fashion.”

So glad you covered Veronica! She's one of my favorite models of the 90s. In my opinion, her face was fresh and her look international. But the best part of her was that when she opened her mouth to speak, I always found her to be intelligent and opinionated. She didn't seem to shy away from speaking her mind and had a distinct personality. I especially loved her work with Todd Oldham.
As a Detroit native we were very proud of her modeling career. I remember those days and I’d like to add that detroit was still very robust financially . They’re haters everywhere but she still kept her dignity intact which is something to be proud of. Thanks for highlighting her achievements this way. 🔥

Her and Halle have the same features to me...I used to think it even back then. That top female model group of the 90s were strong ...they were all unique, and I loved them. She technically didn't fall into that group, but Veronica stands her own though...learned more about her than I ever knew, thank you! I have even more admiration for her now.

I was introduced to her in the Catwalk documentary. I love Webb, absolutely gorgeous. Always admired how firm she stood when defending the values that reflects her place as a human being. She always gave this “no bs” type vibe and I adore it.

If someone approached you in the store and said “You look so nice!” thats different than someone coming up to you and saying “In my opinion you are not attractive.” If you can’t see the difference between giving a compliment or spewing a negative, unnecessary, unsolicited insult than I don’t know what else to tell you.

Back in the day, I always thought of her as the epitome of the admittedly stereotypical "bougie" black girl: light skinned, educated, well travelled and well spoken (don't kill me, I realize this is a horrible stereotype with roots in colorism). I loved Veronica Webb when I was a little girl. Her and Yasmeen Ghauri were among my favorites of that era. Intelligent, classy and traveled women enjoying the interesting opportunities they were being given but not letting it consume them or get them to comprise their own self worth.

She is a classy lady. Not much drama. Unfortunately many folks think women of color always have to act "stank". And if you don't, you're uppity. I have had people tell me they saw Mary J back in the day performing at a club and they said she was out of it and couldn't sing worth a dern. I was heartbroken. I was praying Mary J wasn't going the same route as my homegirl Whitney. But she pulled through and has managed to stay on top. Kudos to both ladies!

She’s always been beautiful and classic, right up there with Naomi! She’s a 90’s icon. I’ve never understood downplaying someone because they are a lighter toned. She didn’t choose her complexion or how others choose to respond to it for whatever reason. All she can do is be the best person she can be, period.

I’ve always liked Veronica Webb. She was different from Naomi or Tyra. I liked her personality and values and her looks were so varied and inspiring. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and 90s so through my teens to 30s she was always a fashion icon for me, even though I’m a petite small boned gal it didn’t matter as she was inspiring for me.
