Ms. Neeta Bhasin is way back in time. What a cloistered explanation of Deepavali? Deepavali or Diwali is a festival of lights in a row called "avali" culturally eliminating the darkness that surrounds mankind, victory of good over evil and mythological return of Ram, Lakshman and Sita to Ayodhya. Culturally incorporating new business prosperity attached to the Hindu worship. There is no devilry but mere new beginnings. People don't go buying utensils every year but restrict it to worship in their own homes and private business communities. It is a Hindu family celebration just like Christmas or Easter for Christians, Id for Muslims and Passover, Channukah for Jews. Each of the above entails classy clothes, jewelry and hence Ms. Bhasin is clad for the occasion. Limit the flattery. It juxtaposes American ignorance!! Timeless sharing among friends and family in exchanging greetings and sweet meats or treats. Fireworks are just there because the "festivity is around lights" and not for dangerous environmental polution or nuisance. Today it has grown out of proportion because of the commercialization it can attract.

The return of Shri Ram after his exile and the destruction of Ravan. She didn't even mention that, her explanation was materialistic. We need to have more educated people to explain our religious holidays
This lady did not tell that this day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after killing Ravana and completing his 14 yrs exile. The people of Ayodhya celebrated Lord Rama's return by lighting up diyas and distributing sweets. And that is the reason we celebrate Diwali. Where did CBS find this lady who did not properly explained all 5 days celebrations properly.
You have whitewashed the true meaning of Diwali... Lord Ram?!?!! Shameful as an Indian and Hindu! This is appropriation and digestion of our religious and cultural heritage to appease others.
It's Lakshmi puja for many, Kali puja for bengalies and also in some parts celebrated as return of Lord Rama... So, pls don't bracket Diwali into just one thing.

I was hoping she started it by saying it’s the Hindu New Year and added how the entire nation welcomed Ram by lighting up their houses with oil lamps on this celebratory occasion after killing Raavan who had kidnapped his wife. Their king had returned victorious but that’s not all, it coincides with the end of the Hindu Lunar year!
Happy Dipawali to everybody in Advanced. Enjoy and fire crackers🔥 Don't forget to Worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesh. And ask them for the welfare of the society 🙏🙏
If u want light ( both inside and outside) u should put a manideep (jewel lamp of devotion) in the form of sri ram 's holy name on your lips.( Source Ramcharit manas) And only those who r so blessed by lord himself for it can do so. Thank you! This lady did a horrible job of encapsulating what Diwali is.

Exactly. When time square celebrate the Deepotsavi it will be joyous

Lol because some Indian Americans want to show off Diwali as an exotic holiday to their white friends and I am saying this as an Indian American
Even what she covered is more for some folks.
But surely they can read in depth someday !

Finally somebody explained well
It is billions of people 🎉🎉 around the world.
There is no mention as to why Hindus celebrate Diwali. Where is the story or Raam and Sita. A Hindu professor should be hired to explain Diwali
Because many Christians consider it devil worship... and will be antagolized.
You forgot to tell about the return of God Rama, to his kingdom, from his exile of 14 years
SUBH DEPAWALI TO EVERY COUNTRY AND PEOPLE.❤❤❤
A very Happy Diwali to all South Asians and to those who celebrate it.
Shubh Diwali 🎇🪔🙏♥️🇮🇳

Bhole, it's also Kali puja that day for Bengalis and Lakhsmi puja in many parts
You omitted Laxmi puja
Happy diwali❤
Diwali is when lord Rama came back from exile so Ganesha is not who we pray to as the main God!

Victory of righteousness over darkness

Its just a noise making festival now. The real meaning in celebrating is sadhna, connecting to divine. But all this has become show off now.

Hi
Calling Diwali as Festival of Lights is like calling Christmas as the festival of Tree decorations and lights. Very superficial.
No it's not... Christmas has never been called a festival of tree decorations.
And lots of firecrackers 😅
