    omg. i had a FV300 just sitting in my garage for most of last year due to the horrendous bowing on the bottom edge. I did so much research into potential solutions so many times and always came away discouraged by the total lack of consensus on what to do (there will always be someone saying "needs a recap. nothing else will work.") and the complexity and danger associated with any of the proposed solutions. I finally found this trick yesterday in a video posted by SpudZgames, it worked, and the FV300 is now my primary set inside the house. thank you so much for discovering and sharing it. I am absolutely amazed with all the thousands of words written about this problem online that it took till Sept. 2021 for anyone to share that the manufacturers included a way to mitigate it. wild.

      Yeah I thought Riggel was going to make a video for the masses, but someone beat him to it - early bird gets the worm I suppose. I don't mind other people making videos on it at all, the more that know, the better in my opinion. CRT repair isn't even the focus of my channel, this was a total one-off where I just grabbed my phone and started recording out of disbelief, haha. Glad this solved your problem, Wegas really are incredible sets as long as you know how to calibrate them.

    I've found a few vague mentions of this procedure on reddit comments from 2-3 years ago, but it wasn't until lately that more and more people are actually showing this in action. I think we need to keep spreading the word because most of the time I read comments like "that flat screen wega is crap, get something else", but if this will be the fix for my KV-32FS120, I'm going to try it once I manage to move it. It's so heavy!

      I agree, the word needs to be spread. I was also thinking of making a quick guide on using a colorimeter with an SD crt. I tried making one a couple days ago but was dissuaded once it turned into an 11 minute video - I like to keep guides short.

    I've got this problem with a Sony 24-in Trinitron that I had found when someone was throwing it out. I got my PS2 hooked up to it with component cables and I thought that might have been the issue because it's only 480i and the PS2 only goes up to 480p.. in some games. I hooked up composite cables and it still had the bend. I tried a PS1 game and noticed the menus were kind of trapezoid shaped almost and the tilt feature under the TV settings didn't fix it ... maybe this will do it.

    There is glue on the rings of my set, I saw mentioned to try dabbing some rubbing alcohol on the glue and cutting it to free the rings up. After doing this and making the adjustment, should you re-glue the rings back together so that they don’t shift or move, therefore, messing up the geometry again after fixing it? If so, what glue is recommended? Also, doesn’t messing with these rings affect convergence?

    • @NullyBird
      @NullyBird  9 месяцев назад

      Late reply, but I never glued mine back together - but that isn't a bad idea. I moved my CRT many times after this adjustment, and never had the rings fall out of place. The lubrication from the rubbing alcohol is temporary, so I think you'll be fine. But if you can find info on which glue to use, then go for it.

    • @digi-it6oc
      @digi-it6oc 9 месяцев назад

      Ok good to know. Does fixing the bottom adjust the top of the grid in the same direction as well? The bowing on the bottom of my screen is bad and going in the opposite way of the bowing at the top, which is slight if anything. And, do you have to move both rings, what happens if you move just one ring? Did this affect color or convergence on yours?

      @NullyBird  2 года назад +1

      There are two sets of two rings each. The first set is for purity and is used to get rid of splotches of discolouration in the centre of the tube. The second set are known as the convergence rings, and they adjust vertical convergence, but you need to really know what you're doing to adjust it properly(I rarely mess with them). On this particular WEGA, there are rings towards the back that aren't typically present on CRTs. I'm doubtful you'll find them on your Toshiba, but I hope they're there for you. Make sure to mark the rings' original positions before you change them.

      Would recommend watching the video that's linked in the description. But the points of concern are: tube + Anode cap + fly back + fly back wire going to anode cap. These 4 items have great potential to harm you if you're not careful. The rings I'm touching here are safe, the deflection board immediately behind said rings can electrocute you, but it's only a tingle(Think of a light-switch mini-electrocution).

      With respect; I've had much experience adjusting CRTs in the past. I've put a giant warning in the description, that directs to a relevant video on CRT safety. I take every precaution necessary. These two rings in particular stood out, as I've never seen them on other CRTs. I could remove your comment, but I take safety very seriously - and I think the merit in your message is justified, so I will let it stay.
      I admit my comment about part of this procedure being "dangerous" was misplaced, it was very late and I was far too flabbergasted by the results to really think about what such a quote communicated to my audience.
