I have just finished my 11th shawl with this pattern. Love this pattern. It taught me a lot. I also mixed my yarns using a complimentary color for the yarn overs
I'm impressed at how simple and accessible you're making this project with your charts and things. It's not necessary for me in this case, but you're really making success likely for everybody interested iin joining along.
The best thing ever was the line by line. I am a crocheter and this is my first knitting project. Finished week one and i am very impressed with myself already! Thank you so much!!!
thank you so much...there is NO WAY I could have done that garter tab from the written instructions so your demo saved me. Hopefully I can get this done by Mothers' Day!!! U Rock Marly Bird!
Just bought my Red Heart Soft Essentials Yarn yesterday! I saw that Michael's was selling Soft Essentials Yarn STRIPES!!!!! Love stripes so much and I always keep wanting to knit without loss of interest to see what the other color will look like as I progress through the Knit-along! Btw you made the Garter Tab section SO EASY to do. I find most tutorials on Garter Tabs are too hard to accomplish because the quality is low so garter ridges are hard to see and the knitting seems tighter alot. Now I can finally make my first Shawl with a Garter Tab beginning! Thanks Marly bird! Can't wait to post a picture of my finished Beachy colored Shawl so you can check out my work!
Thank you so much for your prompt reply, I have never knitted before but am confident with these videos I will complete my first shawl, very exciting, really clear instructions. I will look out for part 2, much appreciated.
Thank you for the video tutorial this is my second knit shawl and I had to stop during the knit-along timeframe. I just got the courage to pick it up again and will not stop until is done even it takes me the whole summer lol. You are a great at what you do and you inspire me to keep building my knitting skills.
Love this video! I learned lots and you made it look easy. I did not plan on starting over because I thought it looked pretty good--- after you said it again I decided to start over and it looked much much better and I understood and worked faster-- I suggest this for anyone who is doing some of these stitches for the first time!
I really appreciate this. Red Heart patterns are great, but a little daunting! It's so nice to have some step by step help on a project like this. Thanks so much. Wonderful work! You're so talented. I'm still working on my knitting and I don't do it very often, (I'm a highschool freshman and started when I was 11) but this makes everything a lot easier.
This is my first KAL with a video. Marly you are awesome. I am not a new knitter but thoroughly enjoyed this and love how you did the line by line instructions for everyone. I did the same thing earlier today but not as pretty as yours. Can't wait for next week to start the next section. You are perfect for teaching everyone and make it simple and easy to understand. Great job! :)
+Deborah Bancroft thank you for saying so. It means a lot. I really do the best I can but there are times when I make a mistakes. In this case I should have mentioned the tweaks in the video. Live and learn.
It's ok. You didn't because you thought it was best and explained it well in Q & A. It's all good. You are taking very good care of us especially newer knitters which is very important. Take care and thanks for being there for us.
Just so you know, I updated the Line by Line about 30 minutes ago. Take a look and make sure you have the most recent one. It has two tables. One is a breakdown of the pattern as written; the other is a breakdown of the pattern as I taught it in the video. If that doesn't make sense make sure you watch the Q&A video I did trying to explain it.
Your line by line sheet is an awesome assist! Thanks for including it. As I new knitter, this is an idea that I can see myself using with other patterns.
Wow great video! I'm excited to get started :-) I super appreciate all your attention to detail and the extra work you put in making the check off sheets for us🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
My first KAL, and so far, so good. Nice job, Marly! Especially like the line printouts - very helpful. Thank you for your impressive instructions. On to video #2!👍
Late to the party here Marly, but I am trying to find the line by line document you created for this pattern? Ill definitely get lost without it. Where might I find it? I can't find it through the blog post link in the description box.
Hi Marly, I just found this video and I would like to make this shawl but I can't find the link for the instructions you made. This like I click on has lots of info but I don't see where to click to get your instructions. Please advise. Thanks!
I am new to knitting, I bought the Red Heart soft essentials but my yarn looks thicker than yours. The label is marked bulky 5 do I have the correct yarn? Are there different sizes in soft essentials? I really enjoy your class, love the way you explain things, you're very thorough. PS: Thanks for the tip about printing the line by line in landscape.
Hi Marly having trouble printed the step by step written instructions it prints up too tiny to read do you know how to fix this for me please? Many thanks in advance.
thankyou so very much marly ur lesson is very helpful but when i print those sheets out it didnt come out clearly please make those sheets more clearly that wold be great bcz im undergoing treatment of cancer patient knitting has been giving me strenth and hope Thankyou so much i like your innnocent smile as well
Hello, does this pattern has a correction, because at the beginning of the row it says k 1 kfb knit to marker, and at the end of the row it says kfb and k2
Hi Marly, I just have been watching your video and love the way you explain everything. As I noticed on the sleeve of the yarn, they are 120m long, so I need 3 balls of 120m each if I am right? As I can't see the video's 2, 3 and 4, I guess you haven't made them yet? Just asking as I like to download them, so I can watch them off line. I am going away with the caravan for a few months and am not always able to get on the internet. As soon as I know how much yarn I kneed I will go to the shop and buy it and also the circle needles. :) Kind regards Anneke.
Hello, I love all you're videos, I would love to make the shawl but with a smaller yarn for the summer like sock yarn, or sport yarn or DK is it possible?
Yes it is. You will want a smaller gauge I think. You will just do more sections than indicated in the pattern. As long as you keep an odd number of stitches on either side of the center markers you will be good with any of the stitch patterns used in the sections :)
Has anyone tried this pattern in a smaller gauge? I'm wondering if I can just do more repeats of a section so I can use a lighter yarn and smaller needle and still get a big enough shawl
Hi i have a question. I followed the pattern and your check off list, and i was wondering when i finished the last line of the shawl, it doesn't look big enough. Do i go back and repeat line 35- through stage 4 again to make it bigger? Is that okay. The photo of the pattern looks bigger.
I love this Shawl, but the only problem is that I can't knit or crochet . I am a self taught RUclips videos . I will love to make this shawl but in crochet stitch . Can you make a crochet stitch please ?
Aida Torres (Great name, LOL) Marly's instructions are very clear for a beginner. If you go to her learn to knit video, you will pick up this craft easily.
Hi Marly, in row 4 you knit to the last 2 stitches then do your increase, but the pattern says knit to the last 3 stitches then you do your kfb and knit 2?
Marly, you are great! I have learned so much from you!!! Can’t wait to try this pattern! Just one question! The size of the needles is in US terms? Thank you!!
Your videos are excellent and easy to follow but I have had to restart the project numerous times and can't move on because my stitch markers keep getting caught in my work!! I have sent away for new markers that I found on Etsy, I have never used them before, I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem?
+Karol Jelbert one thing you could do is...Just use 1 marker...And place it between the two middle stitches. Then, the marker won't get caught in the YO. You will just have to remember that you moved the marker do you would work until 1 st before marker, yo, k1, slip marker, k1, yo...
How do I know what size of circular knitting needle I have? I havve one that is 11 but I am not sure if the circular part is 29 inches. If I measure from the needle to the needle is 26 inches. Not counting the needle.

Am I the only one who does not hear the audio after the intro music? I really would like to go through this video, but Marly speaking is muted out. The audio works on the other videos.
I hear you. However, this is sad to say but, I do not have enough money to include closed captions and if I choose where the closed captioning fills in on its own it does not do a good job. Until I make a LOT of money I just don't see how I can offer this feature. Sorry.
Marly Bird is it possible for viewers to volunteer to CC videos? I've seen some RUclipsrs say it's possible, although I don't know now how. I would be more than happy to volunteer for a few.
Linda M Well, I can't help with Russian videos, but if there is a way to CC done by viewers and added, or at a minimum outline of the steps/transcription of sections, I'd be willing to help. And if there is (free) software that is available, that makes it all the easier. We yarnies gotta stick together lol.
yes, Sharon. I did accidentally say k2tog when I meant just to knit the next two. It was an honest mistake. I even did it _again_ in the first version of the Q&A video. Doh. I went back and edited that bit so it is fine now but sheesh. Sometimes when I am talking I know what I mean but say the wrong words.
+Isabelle Weber I can appreciate the need for captions. But the automatic captions on videos are not good (they often don't translate correctly) and the cost to have a video CC is more than I can afford.

Yes, 3 balls of yarn. I release each section of the pattern on Wednesday during the KAL.

You measure from needle tip to needle tip. :-)

I can't find the pattern 😕
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I am unable to get the line by line to come up so I can print. I used the link shown above but nothing.
+Traudy Quail you should be able to click the image and it opens in a media page. Then print.
very very good
I printed out the line by line but it is so small. how do I make it larger?
Did you print them out landscape?
Need to update your link for making stitch markers. It tries to go to the youtube studio editor instead of watch video.
OH thank you! I will do that.

Yeah, I was able to work it out. Just wanted to help others. I love the idea of making your own stitch markers. Decent ones can be pricey.
I can’t open the link to the pattern! 😪
Got pattern but not the line by line pages. Help
The line by line is on my website.
Can't find your line by line instructions
Were is video 2 to 4.? Don't understand where to look for it
During the time of the KAL, 1 video is released each week. This was the first week so you will only find Section 1 for now.
Yujuuuuu!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
thank u i am new at that
Where are the instructions
Am I the only one who does not hear the audio after the intro music? I really would like to go through this video, but Marly speaking is muted out. The audio works on the other videos.
Closed captions! PLEASE!!!

Sorry, I had no idea. Thanks for helping me understand. If you think it's bad, though, you should caption a Russian video.
Marly Bird is it possible for viewers to volunteer to CC videos? I've seen some RUclipsrs say it's possible, although I don't know now how. I would be more than happy to volunteer for a few.
FYI: Just found this. support.google.com/youtube/answer/2734796?hl=en

Is there a crochet pattern for this
Porqué el video no tiene sonido???
Wow!!....Love your instruction.....Hate your intro music!!....So incredibly “ear bleeding” loud!!
Directions say knit to last 3 stitches, do kfb and then knit 2 but your video says to knit to last 2 stitches and do the kfb there???
Please see note in the video notes.
Marly Bird thank you
Good 4 me
Next video explain to beginners that it was kfb not knit two together as stated in first video.
yes, Sharon.
