Good stuff! Very timely! I’ve helped a couple of my friends to get their all season tires swapped to winter tires. I use a piece of chalk to mark the inside of the tire as to which corner it came off of, so I can rotate them when they go back on.

You may wish to invest in a couple more pieces of equipment such as wheel choks, air/electric impact wrench & air pump to inflate tires as they will lose some pressure during the 6 months on non use. I generally do not use jack stands for tire changes as i am not under the car itself, but make sure you are well clear as safety should be priority one. If a novice you can use a jack stand to be absolutely safe as beginners tend to leave body parts under the car so be careful. Put the car emergency brake on before jacking, and use wheel choks so the car cannot move for any reason. Look at the manufacturer owners manual for what spec to use for torquing the lug nuts, the manufacturer will state a single value however in the engineering standards it is a range that is acceptable. Many torque wrenches will only come in 10 ft/lb increments so a spec of 85 ft/lbs i would do in 90 ft/lbs, the closest increment over the required specification. BE very cautious with a scissor jack due to its inherit concerns with small contact jack area’s as the are very problematic, i suggest a wide hydraulic jack with large contact point, rather than a bottle jack style. Cheers.
