I’m always astonished that people start off saying basically “Garageband is very limited”, “You can’t do this”, “You can’t do that” and then go on to disprove the earlier points that they’ve made and create music with little effort quickly. Go back 30 years and you’d find people using virtually 100% hardware synths, sequencers and drum machines, recorded on to ADAT. Virtually no editing, with everything getting directly “printed”. Garageband is like heaven in comparison.
it is very limited. i'm stuck on version 6 because my mac can't update to a newer version due to its hardware and the drum samples are utter trash. the synths are a little better but severely hindered by lack features to let you adjust from the stock sound.
This was really interesting to watch. I've just been tampering with electronic music myself. Very new to the creating process, but this gave me some ideas to try out. Well done. Keep it up!
I use GB for many years. I think it’s a huge tool for composing music. Ty very much for showing the automation with the volume. Very very interesting. Try to record new tutorials :)
That! After struggling for a week with Ableton I accidentally clicked on this video and got both a way to play and have easy backing drums for my piano learning AND create amiga-demo worthy EDM in no time! I think I'll stick with GarageBand for a long time - it's free, and everything is so easy and so geared toward beginners like me (as compared to Ableton)
Hey Gabe, great tutorial, mate! One question - my GB v10.4.3 doesn't have "EDM Bass" or "EDM Chords" section in library. I've downloaded 'All available sounds' to it and also reinstall 'all sounds'. Where can I get 'em please?
I have the same problem. I used the Classic Super Saw and the Super Saw Lead. I applied EQ settings to remove the low frequencies and boost the high frequencies
how are you adding the synth? When I add a synth over a drummer, it does not play anything? Is it because I am missing a player kit? Please someone help
Hey Gabe, so I currently use GarageBand, and I’m looking for an upgrade, I’m thinking about either FL studio, or Logic Pro x. I like how GarageBand looks, and all of that, but I need new instruments. I make electro/ edm/ house. I’m just wondering what you think would be a good upgrade for me?
i would say Logic pro X, if you are used to GarageBand, then Logic Pro X is similar to GarageBand, just way more options, so if you know how to use GarageBand, then you will know how to use Logic Pro X
Great video! Have you ever thought of doing a segment of critiquing your subscribers tracks? Like have a dedicated email for submissions and whatnot? Id love to hear your viewpoint
Thanks! I've thought about it, but I don't know if I could make those kinds of videos entertaining or informative enough for a lot of people. I prefer doing one on one critiques with my Fiverr gig, so I can be a lot more specific.
That's not a bad idea. Maybe I'll try that at some point. In the meantime, here's the gig: www.fiverr.com/gabemiller/critique-your-original-song?ref_ctx_id=41872087-930b-4345-8dc0-0b3950bcad61
That won't accomplish actual ducking, but if you've got a limiter on your master, boosting the bass will trigger the limiter harder. I definitely recommend properly sidechaining or ducking for a cleaner mix.
I hate to nitpick as I enjoyed the video but as someone who uses GarageBand without any of the pro programs installed multiple instruments you used, specifically Bounce Bass, Aliased Bender Lead, Citrus Fizz, & Classic Sawtooth Lead are not available in base level GarageBand without the addition of pro program sound banks installed.
@@ibmaster4529 I'm doing my best to investigate how that's possible. I purchased Mainstage 3 recently for $30 & upon installation it did dramatically expand my available instrument library within Garageband tho bafflingly not those two specific presets & from further investigation quite a substantial portion of the Mainstage Instrument library does not show up in Garageband. I will read up more & see if there is a solution but it may have something to do with compatibility that is somehow remedied by additionally have Logic installed. I do know that you have full control over the various software synths that are utilized to create the presets available in Garageband that have very limited controls & custom user patches can be exported from Mainstage that can then be used in Garageband, with some very specific limitations. Sorry this is long & full of run on poorly structured sentences. I did a quick test exporting the patch labeled as "Classic Sawtooth Lead" in Mainstage as a custom User patch into Garageband & had no issue with compatibility so I'm more baffled than before. It does not quite match the sound of the one used in this video tho so it may have something to do with me having the newest version of Garageband. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. Definitely recommend spending the $30 on Mainstage. Opens tons of more capabilities without having to shell out $200 for Logic. Why some specific instruments aren't automatically showing up in Garageband unfortunately I don't yet know.
Dylan Kelly Ahh I see no worries mate, Thanks a lot for the update, that was quite insightful. Do let me know if you’re ever able to find out about the mysterious instruments haha and I’ll be sure to do the same. Though the Mainstage 3 seems useful, I’m not all too heavy into music production, I just mess around with GarageBand more so often as a hobby and passion for music haha. Once again thanks a lot mate!
If you haven't updated GarageBand or downloaded the extra sounds recently (there should be the option to do that under the file tab), do that. Other than that I really don't know.
I want to try out making music and feel like I can’t get what I want with garage band, can anyone recommend something free to try out? Not wanting to spend 200+ to end up not liking it 😂
@@GabeMillerMusic oh cool man. I use BandLab a lot and I know several artists who use it too. It does have its limitations but if you work really hard you can get the sound you want. XD
The key to layering a lead is for each layer to have a specific role... Usually I'll add one that is very clear and cut through the mix, then one that's more wide and possibly more washed out with reverb and such, then maybe another one an octave up or down. And sometimes layering two patches that sound different can create something that sounds like one new sound.

EDM is the best type of music
Please do more Garageband videos. I liked this one a lot.
YOUR VIDEOS ARE FREAKIN AWESOME!! Keep up the quality content!
Nice work dude! I recognise these sounds all too well. XD
Plz release the full track! I NEED IT
Good morning,
can u please make a video „how to make a drop with GarageBand“?
Would really appreciate that😉😀
GarageBand is limited mainly by ones lack of problem solving. Great things have happened in its world.
Wow 😯 even with limitations you’re really good!
Time to switch to Garageband!
Real nice 🔥🔥
Very nice.
You’re very talented :) i have been geting to make music for years on different channels .... well atleast this one has 5 subs already :)
How do u accidentally create tutorial lol 😂😂😂

DCdancer2 2 sounds like TOBU

this is fire af.
Really nice job! I just came here because I wanted to listen EDM tracks made with Garageband but I found an amazing Progressive House tutorial 😃
Same.
Nearly had a stroke during that zoom effect 🥴

Bro u r just amazing
The only thing is GarageBand doesn't have sidechain in any of their plugins, so u gotta get external plugins for that
Or you can volume automate, the super tedious process😂
Impressive
How are people’s mouse aim that bad that 1 person hit the dislike button.
please tell me you finished this song i need it on apple music
I didn't finish this particular one, but I've got a few songs like it on all the regular streaming platforms. Glad you enjoyed it!
One thing you can do to make sidechain is to boost the bass eq on the kick sample
That won't accomplish actual ducking, but if you've got a limiter on your master, boosting the bass will trigger the limiter harder. I definitely recommend properly sidechaining or ducking for a cleaner mix.
Gabe Miller Music another thing I noticed is that your song seems a little compressed, do you use ott?

Niiiiiice
Good job. I’m planning to try to produce some edm music, which daw do you recommend? Also, would i need anything else besides daw and computer?
Just a DAW and a computer are fine, maybe a midi keyboard if you want. Ableton, Logic, or FL Studio are all good DAWs to go with.
Thanks for the info
I crashed my car into a bridge .... I don’t care ... I love it
Great and inspirational!!😊
This was sounding good until the “sidechained” melody line. Just sounds off to me.
