After the primer is dry and ready to sand, if using a DA sander as for preference, it works best to use a 3/4” (19mm) interface pad to avoid gouging edges or body lines like convex shapes that form a sharp line. Sand later with scuff pad to keep line crisp and sharp.
The standard “Dual Action” sander, has a 1/4 (11mm) throw or orbital action. Using a DA sander on medium speed with a short-throw 5/16” (7mm) works great for controlling the rate product is removed to help reveal high and low spots that may require additional attention.
This will speed the time required to produce a flat panel without waisting product.
Depending on your brand of sandpaper, but check frequently for any buildup of primer. This will lead to adding scratches instead of removing them. Use a hard block w / 80g or a folded coat hanger works to dislodge any clumps or particles that build up on the sandpaper. You may loose some grit from the sandpaper, but this acts to serve as producing a 320g to a 400g, further and quickly producing a flatter panel.
Don’t forget the use of a guide coat, either powder or a flat black (Or Contrasting Color) to help your eyes and shop lights produce a laser straight panel prior to an epoxy primer (For a Harder Long Lasting Finish) or top coat base in the many colors of your choice.
