My 17yr old daughter is doing something similar. She was formerly an elite level gymnast until 4 years ago but injury put her out and she stepped away. Now as she heads to University in October, results willing, she's back in training as her first choice uni has a good Gymnastics program.
She's been surprised at how her body is remembering the skills and flexibility needed and as she's not wanting to compete, she's just enjoying achieving and gaining back the skills she learnt without all the pressure.

As a self-proclaimed Olympics addict (with zero personal skills, I just love to watch others excel), I am appreciating this as a tutorial prior to the games this summer. Might it be possible for us to hear the difference in points value? I have really enjoyed all of the series from you, Joanna, Luke, and Nile!

In the gymnastics world with injuries it is somewhat “old”. They didn’t say HE is old, for the sport he is. Being THAT (the word used) old is not usually seen in elite gymnastics.

It's always great to see someone who was at the elite level in their chosen discipline going back over the fundamental building-blocks that took them to the top, and reminding themselves of the work they did to get where they are. The fact you're using it to work to skills you've never completed before is inspiring.
I wish you joy of the journey!

  • @Becka.M-D

    Firstly you are not old.
I have always heard people from a young age up until over a 100 say that they are old. But you also see people that people class as “old” still doing things that’s you wouldn’t expect them to be doing. So I believe when someone says that they are old, it’s more of a state of mind, because later they may do something & not feel that way. So for me, you are not old. Also your age is not just a number, it’s a culmination of all the things you have done in a single lap of the sun. Some years you do more, other years less than what you have done the year before. This is a big challenge, an incredible target to have set for yourself & we are proud of you for undertaking such a challenge. I cannot wait to see you progress through this & you will end up smashing it. You know what has happened to you body before, but you now need to keep a positive mindset & we will send you as much positivity in these messages. Keep smashing it!!

Back in school I was really frustrated with gymnastics to the point of avoiding it as much as I could. We were never really able to train and learn gymnastic skills but we were still graded on our ability to perform them. Minimal instruction, almost no intermediate steps, maximum judgement... Your videos make me see the fun side of gymnastics and how through hard work you can overcome all these seemingly impossible challenges.
