My 17yr old daughter is doing something similar. She was formerly an elite level gymnast until 4 years ago but injury put her out and she stepped away. Now as she heads to University in October, results willing, she's back in training as her first choice uni has a good Gymnastics program. She's been surprised at how her body is remembering the skills and flexibility needed and as she's not wanting to compete, she's just enjoying achieving and gaining back the skills she learnt without all the pressure.
As a self-proclaimed Olympics addict (with zero personal skills, I just love to watch others excel), I am appreciating this as a tutorial prior to the games this summer. Might it be possible for us to hear the difference in points value? I have really enjoyed all of the series from you, Joanna, Luke, and Nile!
In the gymnastics world with injuries it is somewhat “old”. They didn’t say HE is old, for the sport he is. Being THAT (the word used) old is not usually seen in elite gymnastics.
It's always great to see someone who was at the elite level in their chosen discipline going back over the fundamental building-blocks that took them to the top, and reminding themselves of the work they did to get where they are. The fact you're using it to work to skills you've never completed before is inspiring. I wish you joy of the journey!
I know it would be more work when editing, but it would be awesome to see the name of the skill onscreen as you complete it. Incredible challenge you’ve given yourself here, Ash! You are a beast 💪
Such a great idea. I will be here for them all. May I suggest you set up a Patreon and post more of the clips attempting these skills as you get to the harder stuff there. As a coach I’d find it interesting to watch you work through learning something like a Liukin on high bar as just a raw training recording.
So excited for this! Love this idea! Could you add the level (a/b/c/etc) of the skill you're doing? As a WAG specialist I'd love to learn about the MAG COP as you go along. Good luck!!
What a cool challenge! I’m excited to follow along. I know this might add to the editing time, but would it be feasible to add the name of the skill on the screen somewhere as you’re doing it? I think it would help me (and maybe others?) to follow along and see what you’re doing
This is amazing, Ash - and it's a brilliant preparation for us sofa-living critters for the Olympics later this year, making us understand what truly hard work and dedication is involved to perform at that level.
I have no idea how you’re doing this! Incredible, Ash. You and Jay are definitely #goals. Wishing you all the best! Don’t forget that professional athletes get lots of massages and PT!
That flying back was just incredible!!. Looking forward to seeing those 900+ skills. Ash, you are truly amazing and an inspiration to me. Keep up the good work!!
It'd be cool to see the skill names written on the screen with each ting! So we can fully appreciate what you are doing! Also, goes without saying, but I think this project is an amazing undertaking and I look forward to seeing you go through it!
Firstly you are not old. I have always heard people from a young age up until over a 100 say that they are old. But you also see people that people class as “old” still doing things that’s you wouldn’t expect them to be doing. So I believe when someone says that they are old, it’s more of a state of mind, because later they may do something & not feel that way. So for me, you are not old. Also your age is not just a number, it’s a culmination of all the things you have done in a single lap of the sun. Some years you do more, other years less than what you have done the year before. This is a big challenge, an incredible target to have set for yourself & we are proud of you for undertaking such a challenge. I cannot wait to see you progress through this & you will end up smashing it. You know what has happened to you body before, but you now need to keep a positive mindset & we will send you as much positivity in these messages. Keep smashing it!!
This is going to be great! I'm also glad to see that you are taking appropriate measures to safeguard your health. We really need more examples of people doing their best, but within healthy limits/standards. It'll be really cool to see you do all of these!
Can’t wait to watch you take on this journey/challenge. I especially appreciate the compassion and space you’re giving yourself - taking a break when you need to, and being able to just say ‘we’ll come back to that’ without any judgement. As a recovering perfectionist, it’s lovely to watch 😊
Great work! Love the quick explanations of the differences in actually doing skills that look so similar (such as piroutting backward with your weight having to go over the bars).
Congratulations on setting yourself this amazing goal! Improving your fitness along the way is a great benefit. I really enjoy watching you perform the skills!
I love how you continuously push yourself. You keep trying to grow and learn new things and that's beautiful. So is the support your chosen family always gives each other. So wholesome and heart warming.
Brilliant idea, I'll be tuned in. Nice variety too with a few ting, ting, ting vlogs and others more specific on a certain skill that takes you a while to nail. Love it. P.S the ting is definitely not annoying it's weirdly satisfying 😂
Well done Ash, fun idea! Would be so great if you also put the name of the skills on the screen when you’re doing them!! Pretty please! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Would be so good for those of us who are not gymnasts and love to learn more 😊
ash is a great teacher, motivator, pushes himself and friends to do more then they would do by themself! i'm so glad he knows his own boundaries too and knows when to stop.. :) ash is like the ocean: pull and push, go and retreat. ash and joanna are masters of getting the most out of their time and i'm in awe love from austria :)
love your enthusiam, u and joanna are great team on and off ur content, keep doing what you are doing, always love getting a notification that u and joanna have released a vlog.
Ash, amazing how you push yourself to do new things, you re a big inspiration to never stop progrssing! Good luck on all the skills, im sure you will be able to do them all eventually!
Oh hohoho, as a massive gymnasts fan and quite the gymnerd I am VERY excited to see how this new journey progresses! Go Ash! Also you're insane hahahaha
What a joy to watch your enthusiasm for all the skill you perform with such energy. A truly entertaining and educational video. Love the kiss at the end - warm hearted, skilled entertainer!!
Good luck on this journey! You are a true ambassador of the sport. Back in school I was really frustrated with gymnastics to the point of avoiding it as much as I could. We were never really able to train and learn gymnastic skills but we were still graded on our ability to perform them. Minimal instruction, almost no intermediate steps, maximum judgement... Your videos make me see the fun side of gymnastics and how through hard work you can overcome all these seemingly impossible challenges. Also: 16:03 that was absolutely hilarious! Love your videos!
Love this! I always wanted someone to try doing all the skills in the code on a single apparatus but you're doing all six! Insane. I can't wait to keep watching the series.
I am so excited to see this series! Thank you for always giving your all and putting your body on the line for our entertainment! Cheering from the US. (Request: do you think the name of the skill could be captioned in the edit?)
Wonderful content! Can't wait for the next installment. Any chance you could add in the little illustration from the CoP in a corner for every skill to make it easier for us amateurs to follow along?
are any of you guys instructors for the youngsters who come to the gym? you have sooooooooooooo much to offer them, not only just with gymnastics, but with attitude, camaraderie, and self-acceptance, to name a few
I'm excited to see the rest of this series, but i'm worried about some hi-bar release moves, do you plan on relearning the cassina and all of the other releases?
What surprised me was that the half on half off vault is in the code but the half on full off vault isnt. Made me go find both WAG and MAG codes that I have downloaded to double check!

I just realised... after doing all this, when you do your "copy the next move" challenges, you're going to have the whole play book you can pull out!
I love how Joanna’s *“WHOOHOO”* echo’s through the gym. It makes it sound like she is doing it *every time* !! Too funny.
3 weeks from now, Friday night/Saturday morning... "Was it good for you?" If met with silence, play the sound! Play it! :D

Pulling all these skills off, with all your injuries, and being THAT old. Truly admirable Ash!

Ash has a natural ability to do virtually anything.
So true. Ngl I'm jealous.
You should make a short of you doing each skill - would be a great tool for people learning them!
Great idea

Can't wait to follow you on this journey. So proud of your hard work and dedication! Your love of the sport is what makes this so much fun to watch.
