As an avid pre 1840 living history rendezvous buff, all of my tentage is and has been Tentsmiths tents. I currently own three and a 12x12 tarp from them. I have been in the hobby for over 36 years and can attest to their superior design builds. In the past before my wife and I downsized our set up, we had one of their 14x24 hip roof Marque, with a 8x14 porch and custom kitchen attachment that was 8x24. That set up was the envy of everyone and it was very comfortable and extremly Florida storm worthy. They are the best in the business bar none.
I've been eyeballing one for a while. I know it's very high quality. But my wife. She isn't ready for it. First the whole tarp idea. She's partial to the dome tent. Second is the price. Perhaps one day. Thanks for the video. I learned a few things.
I've used a tarp with a heating fire while hunting in Alaska on some pretty cold nights. I've always made a lean-to, but this "Holdin" (? spelling ?) would have been quicker to pitch and offered more weather protection. Thanks Dan for sharing your knowledge on these tarp set ups. I'll have to try this out.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 tentsmith is out a couple of months but I think I’ll order an 8x8 myself. I’d like to be able to backpack with it as well. Hope the snow is treating you well on that side of the mountain.
I use mine for back packing. Weighs 1.9kg, I only take minimal kit anyway so the weight is fine. I often cowboy camp with folded in half with a foam mat, or use a trekking pole to prop up one side. I love how reliable and bombproof it is.
You look like a kid in a toy store! Pure happiness! thanks for the video, greetings from Italy!👋
Thank You!

Agreed!
Nice tarp. Thanks for showing us. Merry Christmas.
Absolutely. And Merry Christmas to you as well!
Nice oilskin tarp! 👍 Tentsmiths makes great stuff.
Good video. Good job. I just got a 6x8 canvas tarp. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Thank you! God bless you as well!
Congratulations on one choice piece of kit.
Dee-Luxe !
MR sent me, excellent tarp
3 1/2 lbs is great. Well made, could save a life in an emergency. I have bought some stuff from self reliance, all quality.

I believe you are correct on the spelling.
There are to many bugs and creepy-crawlies in the mid west. So my favorite tarp set up is over a hammock with a bug net.
Just keep those creepy crawlers there, LOL!!!
Fall and winter the ants and mosquitoes dissappear here. Makes for some great campouts by a nice fire.
How do you like the tarp a couple of years later? Thinking I may buy one. What’s your thoughts on size. For me one person plus pack.
I recently went to the 8x8. Little difference in weight, but much roomier. 6x8 was just to small for some configurations,

@@oregonsquatch9881 been getting out there in the snow a lot. Enjoying it let me know how you like the tarp.

Very cool 🤠
$275 for a 6'x8'? They are on drugs!
I'm my opinion a 8x10' is a better size for coverage.
7x10 is my favorite.
They don’t make the Pathfinder Scout tarp any more?
I'm not familiar with the SCOUT tarp. This is a new tarp made by Tentsmith that is only available through the Pathfinder School.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 Correct. The Scout tarp is also by Tentsmiths and was Dave Canterbury’s creation. Odd he isn’t selling the 1 he thought of 🤔
Is this based on bushcraftspain’s Nessmuk Tarp?
Not as far as I know
