    @Louves192 5 месяцев назад +1195

    This ending is so sad. He gained power, but lost his humanity. If we think about what happened with Mystra, it's likely that gods cannot even love like mortals do. The only god that shows any kind of humanity is Withers /Jergal and that's because he gave up the majority of his power.
    His design is so interesting tho! His body lost all it's colour, it's just plain grey. And the lightning look like cracks in his skin

    • @justinscott1315
      @justinscott1315 5 месяцев назад +103

      And even then, it's ultimately in service of his role as scribe of the dead and to punish the risen three that he gave his power to for directly tampering in the realm of the living. Gods simply ARE the thing they reside over, the only god that could ever truely love would be a God of Love and even then it'd be ultimately an unhealthy love as it'd not be tempered by humanity, by loss, by pain. It'd just be love for loves sake, just like all the gods.

    • @Marispider
      @Marispider 5 месяцев назад +35

      His design is extra interesting since, theoretically, he DECIDED to look this way. Gods can shapeshift and transform -- sure, Gale is a lesser god at this point (though his domain gives him a very good chance of growing his power... I like to headcanon him having a larger plan and continuing to try to gain more and more power and conquer other domains, first over Mystra, and then over Ao himself if those rumors about Mystra having the potential to be an overgoddess are true), but I'd assume he'd have access to that relatively simple power.
      He chooses not only to continue carrying the orb's scar (probably takes pride in it now, which is fair), but to look less human overall, even to his friends and lover. He ironically looks even less human than Mystra. And I like how you point out his skin is gray -- I didn't think of it because I'd call his skin silver, which reminds me of riches and success (you could also make a connection about how him becoming the God of Ambition would have been his _second_ choice behind being God of Magic, aka he earned silver), but you're right, he did lose all his color and warmth. He presents himself as some grandiose thing, but he lost a lot of what made him... him.
      And he doesn't even seem to realize how much he's lost at all, only how much he's gained. Another commenter pointed out he didn't even really overcome one of his biggest insecurities: "I'm still not enough for you."

      Ascended Astarion raves about becoming Cazador 2.0 and creating a nightmarish vampire dystopia. Ascended Gale can be a prick (his attitude seems to vary depending on the choices you make and dialogue options), but ultimately remains a benefactor toward the mortals of Faerun as a whole. They are not the same.
      Even IF Gale is rude, pompous, arrogant, etc etc, he's an actual god with beneficial intentions and the willingness to use his godly powers directly to help the material plane, which is already leaps and bounds ahead of Mystra or Tyr and entire miles ahead of the other ascended gods like Bane, Myrkul, or Bhaal. There's already way too many walking nightmares in the pantheon of Faerun, even a hardcore Neutral Gale is a net improvement.

      Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart and Lae'zel are all possible to corrupt or aid (Lae'zel can be convinced to stay loyal to Vlaakith and presumably gets absorbed by her in her ending). That's 4 out of the main 6. It is a main story element, they are all on the "wrong" path from the start, you are the link in a troubled party that either helps them defeat their demons or feeds into them. The only people that you can't corrupt are Wyll and Karlach (you can still ruin their lives lol, but you can't convince them to become evil the same way you can convince the others) and that is because they are very strictly good aligned. Anybody that falls into the neutral or evil category have selfish or blindly zealous desires and will be affected greatly by your choices.

    Gale's ego inflates to literal Godhood.
    Astarion becomes the relentless abuser.
    Lae'Zel becomes a thoughtless, souless follower of Vlaakith.
    Shadowheart becomes the edgelord she so desperately wants to be...
    Ascending the characters who seek it always ends badly for them. It makes their worst traits, their primary traits.
    Gale at least, still has "good" in him a little. He's just a Neutral God now. Ambition is dangerous if not tempered with compasison and prudence. Ascending someone like Karlach would balance him out I think.

    LOVE your videos! Thank you!
    (Spoiler warning) I got the god-Gale ending even after I thought I convinced him he was enough on the boat, and with a DC30 check before the brain. Well, in the end, he didn't invite me to godhood, but instead told me it's a bad idea for gods and mortals to be in love, and got the, "I'll settle for a kiss/hug" ending... then got ELECTROCUTED... Wow that hurt. I couldn't finish the epilogue ending.
    I went back to an old save and saw him sacrifice himself, and he was like, "I can see why I loved you" after trying to kiss/hug his projection. Again, I couldn't bear to go back to finish the epilogue party after that playthrough.
    So I lost him, either way. Nor could I kiss him or hug him--neither in his death or immortality.
    In my mind, with either ending, my Tav's story ended there. My Tav lived for love, fought for love, lost it, and settled for a quiet simple life of obscurity, losing all ambition.
    You were always enough, Gale.

    • @indiefaerie
      @indiefaerie 5 месяцев назад +15

      It can be tricky depending on the order you do the scenes in with the book and his audience with Mystra, and what you say to him around those events outside of the boat scene- I didn't realise how subtle and complex it was on my first playthrough (I accidentally chose options that leaned towards the crown and had an attitude towards Mystra, so telling him he was enough wasn't actually, well, enough), so he left me at the end, *and* that was before we even had the epilogue party, so I couldn't even have a conversation afterwards.
      I think that persuasion roll might be bugged too, but I'm not sure.
      If you're still having trouble, google "Reddit basic guide to Gale endings" and you should find a post with all the steps to help you achieve whichever ending you desire. 💜

    Ambition incarnate. Ambition untempered by motivation. Ambition for its own sake, wanting more past any and all reason.
    Though conversely, this would be a dope lead up to a wizard war where some side with Mystra in a "power should have limits" sense and others side with Gale in a "boundaries exist to be pushed" sense. Moral complexity! Power should have limits, some things shouldn't be tampered with, but who gets to set those rules? New discoveries are important to the progression of society, but unchecked ambition leads to self destruction at best, and everybody-destruction at gale-you-dipshit-you-still-have-the-bomb-scar.
    Gale's story is the quintessential wizard story. Young wizard thinks he's hot shit, people tell him "hey don't do this, it's dumb", young wizard is like "Pffffff, I'm so awesome, I can handle it", finds out no he can't. Then there's three paths: one, he dies, two, he finds his limits and probably has some major regrets for the rest of his life, or three...he decides rules don't apply to him because he's special.
    He's not going to be a kind god.

    Ambition is a good thing it helps you strive for a goal to become better at or achieve something that you had always wanted but it can also be a dangerous path where if your ego is not kept in check and you understand that maybe what your striving for is maybe something you want but you don’t necessarily need and you should be content with what you have
    Gale is a ambitious man that keeps striving to be better and even though as a god he is at the peak of what he wanted he no longer is the man we loved throughout our journey this is not Gale Dakerious but Gale of Waterdeep in full form

    Imma be real, I know everyone views god Gale as a bad thing, but Im neutral. I feel like God Gale is just Gale x10, and much like the original Gale, he needs someone who will both support him, and temper him when his ambition goes out of bounds. And while Im sure there are those who say "How can you temper the God of Ambitions ambition?" and to that I say, 1. We'll be Gods alongside him, 2. We'll be his lover,closest ally, and the one person he'd defy the gods for; meaning we'll also be the person he turns to for counsel, kinda like a Pantheon. Regardless, I do see the "ick" factor. Gales least redeeming quality is his cockiness, his godhood doesnt make it any better, it just supplies him with the power to make most of those ambitions a reality. 'Mystras Chosen' Gale is a more humbled Gale, which is more endearing

      I love it, in BG3 if you give a character what he wants he will always become the worst version of himself and become what he hates the most.
      In Astarion's case he despises what his master did to him, but if he ascends he becomes someone equal to or worse than him.
      If you let Shadow Hearth follow Shar's path she will basically lose all of her emotions and end up letting the fanatical side of her take over.
      If you let Gale become a God he will become so egotistical that he will look down on others.

    • @adnaP_esreveR
      @adnaP_esreveR 3 месяца назад

      @@segiraldovi Because what they want isn't actually what they need, but they don't realize it. They want what they want for the wrong reasons (to fill an emotional void, to feel adequate, to avoid leaving their comfort zones, etc.), so giving them what they want is just hindering their path to healing and encouraging them to become worse people (or ignore opportunities to improve as a person) by enabling their self-destructive behavior.
      To add onto your examples, if you encourage Lae'zel's blind faith in Vlaakith (for example kill Voss when he shows up after you complete the Créche area), Lae'zel remains a "typical Githyanki warrior". NOT changing is the worst version of her.
      Also, a grim ending is waiting for her at the end of the game. You learn early on that she fears being insignificant more than even ceremorphosis and that's exactly what happens if she ascends. She becomes just another Gith Vlaakith consumed and joins a horde of mindless husks. Idk what is more insignificant than that.
      By the way, if you romance Gale, in the Act 3 boat scene he tells you he wants to become a god to be better than them - because he is upset by the way Mystra didn't help him with the orb, left him to his fate and later discarded him by putting him on a suicide mission. (Of course, another big reason is not feeling "enough" as a mortal.) But if you encourage him to reforge the crown and ascend to divinity, he will become a glorified cheerleader who isn't allowed to do anything proactive by Ao, which is what he hated in the Gods.
      He will make an exception and bend the rules for his partner, but he won't help his friends who helped him get there to begin with. And even if you're God Gale's partner, you will have to spend 6 months all alone because Gale is in Elysium. God Gale is a pretty lonely ending in general, it's the ending where he never learns he is "enough" just by existing, drives away everyone who loved him as he was, and only ever interacts with people who want something from him (people pray to the gods because they want something from them, no?), confirming Gale's insecurities that he only "matters" when he does something of value to someone else.

    Realistically every demi-power, quasi-god up to intermediate deity would just hunt Gale down to take his portfolio.
    Normally fresh "godlings" have at least some major powers, their former patrons most likely, to safeguard them. Or they are given a place in pantheon.
    But I can't see Mystra protecting Gale and even less that other good or neutral deities would interfere.
    Lolth would absolutely love to have ambition as portfolio, has history of killing smaller gods, and due to her unique status as demon/goddess, is not beholden to rules Ao has given to most deities.
    So I'd say Gale ends up in Demonweb Pits or Astral Sea as god corpse very quickly.

    I feel like people comparing A.Gale to A.Astarion are WAY overexaggerating. It's only really a bad ending cuz the Gale we knew is gone. He isn't our Gale anymore, and while that's bad for us, that isn't necessarily bad overall. Ao would not have let him ascend if he wasn't ultimately beneficial to the balance of Faerun. He's now a pawn in a much larger picture than us. A. Astarion is just a flat out monster.
