It's funny that BMW offer so many color variations, but I only really see 3-4 colors on the road normally
It's like any other brand. People tend to stick to very few colors so they don't stand out. Also a too personal color would make a change to a new car a costly business as it would be hard to sell.

Silver is also the national racing colour of Germany. It is the perfect combination of practicality and visuals since it's bright and underlines the shapes of the car but also hides most of the dirt that would otherwise be visible on a white paint.

After waiting 6 months for my 2015 BMW M5 Pure Metal Grey, I can honestly say it was worth every penny. The color is outstandingly brilliant and much better looking in person.
Bmw drivers can also choose to use their turn signals.

Cricis11700 most new BMWS don't come with signal turners anymore but there is a 200£ option which includes a white short sleeved shirt , sunglasses and a Bluetooth hands free.

They come optional and you have to pay for every extra.
Retards are everywhere. Searching for a relation between brand and person is nonsense. But BMW is a relatively common car but not everyone can afford it so stupid people with a BMW stand out more than a stupid VW Polo driver. Or a Citroen Xantia.. or whatever. It is usually simplier minded people who do such corelation with each other.
The cost of this paint is 40x higher, because there are people stupid enough to pay for it, just BECAUSE it is expensive. It's not even nice. Looks silver, not chrome.

i use the same types of finishes "chrome" "ghost chrome" "shadow chrome" on alloy wheels, its only about 20% more expensive but you only need arround half the volume, with the extra prep reqired this paint costs twice as much at most

I work at a Bimmer dealer. Our detailers have proper equipment so that they do a proper job for a delivery clean.
You can have all the equipment in the world, doesn't change the fact they wont spend 8+ hours, doing a proper job like a real detailer would.
***** who in their right mind would spend 8 hours on that? Ours spend 3 since that's what their paid for. They hand wash all the cars and hand dry, then wax and buff them. Good luck in finding a "real" detailer spending 8 hours on your car...
Brandon Friesen it's clear you know very little of what you're talking about. To detail and protect a car properly some would take longer. You can't put a time limit on perfection.

My 2003 5 Series got hit three different times last year, and only in one case did the person responsible pay (I was out my thousand dollar deductible for the other two, even though I had zero percent responsibility.)
That said, I don't take up two spaces because I think the odds are pretty good that some resentful person will key it just out of spite. I just wish people were more careful and courteous.
Or, matters could take a different path. I leased my current 2003 5 Series for three years, and promptly purchased it once the lease expired. Continuous care by Otto's BMW's service department (West Chester, PA) has yielded 13 years (and counting) of supreme driving pleasure.

Each to his own. I got an excellent price for what became a BMW Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with an extended warranty. As the sole driver for those first three years, I knew both the use and service history. Nothing hidden.
I haven't gone back to check the specifics -- and I could have a major expense coming at any moment -- but my annual "cost of ownership" on my 5 Series (excluding tires) averages about $500 per annum. I just hope nobody totals my car. There's no way I could replace it for the insurance.

For the amount of work and cost you would think they would wetsand and polish the clearcoat as a final step to get rid of all the orange peel.

Having Painted professionally before, I can really appreciate what happens here to get this perfect..
Painting metallics is really an art and robotics can absolutely get it perfect..
Notice all these craftsmen use their bare hands and fingers over the paintwork? It is the only way to really feel the paintwork..
No stupid plastic bags - I could never understand why everyone says you need one to feel the paintwork better.
And no, no idiotic "sand down" etc., is ever going to equal this.. You dont need to "sand down" this because you are starting out with perfectly straight, prepared, panels..
Is it worth an extra $10k ? If you could get something this good from a Paint Shop somewhere, it would probably cost MORE..
How many Bimmers do you see running around with clear coat/single stage, failure, fading, etc.. ? Yeah, none, except maybe one that is 30+ years old, never repainted, and never cared for.. :)

no not really... i do not see difference at all. 0:48 you can see. they seems to be pretty much the same. ( i still would pick that blue even if i got "special silver for same price as the blue)
This is the beauty that lies underneath such things. You may do not notice it at first glance but it truly stands out when parket next to another silver car.
@SawMange - at 0:48 you see nothing because that is a small metal plate with coat, filmed with multiple filters and indoor light. A color needs space and light to develop.
It looks insanely good in real life. You immediately notice it's different from any other silver color out there. It's almost like a pearlescent paint. My dad has a BMW M6 GC in this color and it's really beautiful, just a shame a camera can't really capture it well.

Has anyone ever tried to keep a car without orange peel looking good? Every little swirl shows up 5x worse on a show car like finish, not very practical on a car that likely goes through an automatic wash on a weekly basis!
everything has a little orange peel you can slick it but your clear coat will be super thin

Seaside Blue is one of the best colors they've produced, IMO. I absolutely love it. Pure Metal Silver is great, as well!

+Ivan Nichols I believe your cooling system and water pump impeller are metal, they have been plastic for the last 18 years or so. My e39 cooling system has been replaced 4 times with 115k on it. When the 335i came out they were overheating like crazy that they had to go back and add oil coolers to existing cars.

This paint, however, is still...paint. Does it look better than any other silver on the planet? Possibly. Does it look even better than true refined silver itself? Possibly.
But...can it do anything more than a regular paintjob? No. It is still, just a paintjob.
Now, maybe it's the best paintjob in the world. Maybe it has more hours and care and R&D into it than any other car paint. Maybe that price is actually a steal for how much goes into it. But...it's still just a paint.

Damian but repairers don't match paint for age anyway. the colour swatch and the colour that's on your car isn't the same. either way, your paint isn't going to match.
sultanabran1 my painter color matches by code and then makes adjustments by eye based on conditions like age. My paint matches perfectly for simple colors.

Well, it might look similar, but it will never be the same. This is true for regular colors. Now, this "spectacular" color with multiple processes to apply the paint... I doubt any shop would have the facilities BMW has to reproduce this paint 100% equal.
they said it must be painted in the same direction to get the right colour. i don t think a paint shop is able to do this as perfect as it was

It just looks gray, fools and their cash are easily parted. If you have one clean it with washing-up liquid and wire wool pads- it will come up a treat.

The brilliance of this type of this paint job can only be truly appreciated by professional techs in the auto paint industry. It's more of how they paint it than the actual color itself. The main feature of this paint job is how they get the fine metallic to lay on the chassis by using various techniques. I imagine that seeing this color with the naked eye in natural lights is also night and day from seeing it via YT.

Silver is the colour you choose because your life is empty, and you can't make any decision in life, all you did was follow every trend do what you were told to do and just silver, because it doesn't show how dirty the car is, because it's easier to re-sell a silver car, because it's just as bland as tap water, and as 3 day old opened beer can... Alpine White is my favorite tbh. Just so clean. I hope to one day restore the paint to it's new look.
Just put in my special order few days ago for Malachite green metallic; production week is on the 50th of this year, so hopefully by end of December/beginning of 2023 I should have it in my garage!

I appreciate the automobile craftmanship that has been put into this, but it's clearly marketing at it's best. You can get a sand down and a new paint job for $8,000 USD in my city that is on par with this paint job. But this is my point, there was no sand down and this is factory mass produced (Sorry but that's the truth). There's no way this is worth $10,000 USD. Just catering to the boring yuppie crowd of "Hmm I need a $10,000 silver paint job to define myself....but I'll get it on a lease"

I work in a body shop doing insurance jobs. A black 2019 sedan came in my way. I would buy a manual transmission personally, as the automatic functions feel like an arcade toy, but this point I was making, I really appreciate the quality of the paint and it's denseness. It's not super soft like an American car, stripping it off easy, and it's not rock hard and dense. It was a medium firm if I had to describe it. Made for a flawless blend job that was simple. Car looked as if nothing happened to it before once finished. Details like this is what makes an auto company famous among car enthusiasts
