Good evening Kent thanks for your view and question mate, to answer your question I have always been a big believer in quality marine ply being epoxy saturated this is extremly durable and nearly inpenatrable (what i have found anyhow). however in recent years i have used some foam with really good succes and would suggest marine foam with 2 layers of CSM over the foam. to give you an example a friend had his whole boat made from marine foam and it was not only extremly light but super strong.

(previous message not sure if you saw it) "awesome ill find some marine foam, i think ill go with the marine then. it will stick out 50cm the pod will be fibreglassed marine ply its similar to yours in which all ply parallel to the hull is 18mm and all ply parrallel to the stern is 27mm or maybe 36mm. the only reason im considering 36mm is because the boat previously was an inboard (rotted) with a 40mm thick transom."

what's your engine power ? Mine is 100hp.. it weights about 170kg ( 374lbs ) . I was thinking about having 4x 10mm marine plywood at the transom but I see you guys using less than that for engines a little bit heavier than mine. I can't overweight since my boat is only 19 " and the bracket will be only 40 cm long out of the transom. I am not used to dealing with fiberglass lamination and I don't want to use more than I should. 3x 10 mm plywood would be enough in my case ? I also have half a sheet of 15 mm marine plywood that I couild use inside the perpendicular to the transom's... but I calculated that 3 pieces of 10mm plywood is lighter than 2 pieces of 15 plywood. I just don't know if it's also stronger.. I can't do it entire on lamination bcuz it would make the bracket way too heavy and the cost would be too high for me. what do you guys think ? sorry for butting in your conversation like that. lol

are the frame reenforcements made on solid timber or plywood pieces ? it looks like plywood, but asking doesn't hurt.

Thanks for your question, the frames are solid timber, other folks may have used plywood, I prefer solid timber.

In regards to your outboard pod as long as she is securely fastened through original stern to pod and the Pod is structually sound i would take the original stern back to the glass by removing the gel coat and place in one layer of glass epoxy saturated, if in doubt use 2 layers of CSM, half inch stainless through bolts, nylock nuts will bond her well. Kent i am not sure of the pod your putting on will it be fibre glass? how much longer will it extend from the orignial hull?

Hi im fixing a sportscraft commodore v189 5.2m
I would like your opinion on the following
should i use BB extertior AS/NZS 2272 ply (epoxy saturated) or marine foam for my new stringers.
im going to make an outboard motor pod (same width as boat) to join it how many layers of fibreglass should i use and should i use unidirectional matting or CSM? Cheers.

Hi mate I missed your message and I do apologize. How did you go with this? I would go with at least 4 layers glad, epoxy resin and and you could definitely go multi directional with this, would add to the integrity.

Im planing to have no wood in the boat( i can get marine foam 40x1200x2300mm for $600. for the transom/stern im thinking of having a 40mm thick stern that way(no foam for the transom) is this silly? should i just have a 10mm thick stern and a 40mm thick transom? also to make the floor do you have any suggestions to materials

Hi Kent wow I missed replying to so many people here, appologies. I have not worked much with foam particulary in transom's as the main bulk of the glassing inners so can't comment a lot on that mate, maybe someone else has though.

Hi there Steve, thanks for the question I used layers of 300GSM it wet'd out with the Epoxy Resin better and put one coat on then another and so on as apposed to using 450gsm

Happy to discuss how I did mine although your bout would likely have different deadrise and my boat is a high speed displacer with nearly a flat bottom
