Hadn't thought of it until now, but burning the picture was likely their way of giving them a hunter's funeral, since there wasn't bodies to burn the traditional way.
So, they need Death because in Revelation, it's The Four Horsemen that bring on the apocalypse. War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. The ritual was to bind Death to do Lucifer's bidding, so he didn't just raise Death, he bound him into servitude. It's like the last piece to a puzzle to get on with the show. The show being the apocalypse.
We have a very different definition of what a good episode is. If it can make me cry I consider it one of the best episodes of the series, definitely not garbage. Not to mention everything with Lucifer in this episode is gold.
Still going to defend the ghostfacers they are hilarious. Also Jesse, the powerful kid that's never coming back, he's not offspring of Satan, he's an offspring of a demon this show changes the lore of what the Antichrist means.
I read somewhere that burning the photo was like a funeral because they didn't have their bodies but it just always bugged me how they're burning the last reminder of their friends.
And so, now we got the introduction of Crowley, who I remember absolutely loving the first time I saw him, and I still do. The drinking contest between Cas and Ellen was pretty humorous, as Cas is entirely unaffected by alcohol. That family picture is hella gangster. They really squared up. Pretty cool that Cas can see all these reapers, while no one else can. Great to see Mark Pellegrino back as Lucifer. I love that actor so much; he really did an amazing job in this role. I will always love how excited Cam gets for Meg. I do agree that this episode went by a little too fast, and it is kinda bullshit that the second Ellen and Jo come back, they die. That's mad brutal. And there are five things in all existence that the Colt cannot kill, and of course, with Lucifer being one of them, the plot thickens even further. Damn, it must be hella heartbreaking to have to burn a picture you just took, with loved ones in it that just died. It all just happened way too fast. Great reaction guys, hyped for the next! 💯🔥
The drinking game reminds me of "lord of the rings", where was almost same line that Legolas said like "I'm starting to feel something in my fingers". I still think it's a reference.
Crowley. I’ve never been more proud to be British 😂 Jo and Ellen dying, I remember the first time I watched it before I was a mom, and I cried hard then, years later I watched it with my daughter and I cried again knowing as a mother, I’d have done exactly what Ellen did. Great episode. After Cas, Death’s entrance is the best on the show. It’s totally ok to get emotional Nathan, you’ll just need about 28,000 more gallons of tears by the end of season 15. I had about 7 million 😂 🤷🏻♀️
I used to cry so much every time I watched Ellen & Jo's death scene Mostly because of Ellen, she chooses to stay with Jo, to DIE with her, but she doesn't get to. Jo still dies first & for a few seconds, Ellen knows what its like to outlive her daughter & you can see it almost break her.
This ep is so good but a really tough one to watch as everything is looking so hopeless. Love Crowley, definitely one of my fav characters. Actresses playing Ellen & Jo were phenomenal in this episode.
Now we know why future!Dean from 5x04 failed. He probably shot Lucifer & watched in horror as he got up & healed himself too, realized he'd just sent Cas (and everyone else) to their deaths for nothing, but died before he could warn current!Dean that the colt would not work
we kinda got a hint that the colt wouldn't work back in ep 4 where past Dean woke up to the sound of the colt being fired and by the time he got there, he saw SamIfer killing future Dean.
The episode itself I didn't feel like it was rushed, maybe just more action packed but I do agree with Cam that Ellen and Jo just popping up in this one just to die was really weird and dissapointing. They could've had maybe one before this where they link up and spend a bit of time together.
The point is to show how dangerous the life of a hunter is. Not even Sam or dean have escaped deaths due to the life. Everyone is always doing something, and they cross paths sometimes, just like in real life. Also, this is basically them storming the fortress. Of course they'd lose people.
@@TimedRevolver I'm not saying they shouldn't have died. I'm saying you need to be smart about it. We as the audience haven't seen Ellen or Jo for a few episodes leading up to it, and when we finally do, they die. It feels almost rushed and an ugly end to their lives just to serve as a plot point.
@@Cat-vr5ss ...Did we watch the same show? Because literally the entire theme is Sam and Dean getting involved because of people's lives ending ugly. This show isn't about fuzzy feelings and happy endings. These people fight *monsters*. There are going to be casualties. If you want happy endings, find another show. This one is clearly not for you.
To Cameron's question of why they make Lucifer sound almighty evil, killing humans and demons: apparently Biblical Lucifer finds humans to be filthy, or an abomination of sorts (even though God created them, but I'd say he's also jealous as God - if I'm not mistaken, God told angels to bow to humans). And demons are just corrupted, twisted souls of humans (and even corrupted angels in some mythology). To him demons are just as an abomination as humans. They only exist as a means to an end for him.
Haven't watched your reaction yet, but this episode is oof...Was a harsh landing to the reality of the show after the last couple lighthearted episodes.
this episode's been out about 13 years and i still sob like a BABY every time i rewatch it (and over a decade of rewatches, esp when jo is my fav spn character, is a LOT)
The problem with bringing Jessie back is that it would make everything to easy!! It would have nice for him to at least be mentioned in a later episode or being in the last season.
23:50 Dude, did I hear him right?😭🤣😂 My guy really wants to be taxidermized to become a house or museum display?! Just when I thought I've heard it all Cam goes and says some wild shit!😂
I mean, it feels rushed because they're rushing. Lucifer's here and he's not messing around. They've been four steps behind him, but this was their first chance to actually confront him. They went in sloppy and without any other hunters for backup. Because they didn't have the time. They did the best they could in the time they had before Lucifer carried out his plan. Shit goes sideways all the time in this show, though. This episode is further proof that *nobody* is safe when the shit hits the fan.
CROWLEY!! I have been waiting for this episode so much. So much good shit going on. The boys take a HUGE L, Ellen and Jo have a bittersweet farewell. Goes to show how serious this show gets, Lucy is a powerhouse! Crowly comes in with iconic lines and hella drip, love him or hate him, he is iconic. The tease of DEATH! I love the strings y'all are tugging on. Keep it comin! If I could interject. Watch the intros of the first, last, and mid-season episodes of the seasons.
I love the entrances of the characters! Crowley is awesome, even though he is a crossroads demon. Mark Pellegrino plays the best Lucifer ever, tv or movies. I cry ever time I watch this episode!! I would NOT leave my daughter in there to die alone either. Watching them burn that picture makes me cry again. They are burning the picture because they have no bodies to give them a Hunter's Funeral so the picture was burned as a symbolic gesture of one. Lucifer wants the Apocalypse & he needs the 4 Horseman for it & Death is the 4th Horseman. Wait until you meet Death. Another awesome entrance. Perspective is opinion, not facts. So no on can be wrong or right based on opinion, only facts. Perspective makes for great discussions & that's what you guys have every time. Thank you. Can't wait till next time!
I legit stopped rewatching your reaction to Changing Channels to come, havent seen it yet, but Ill say, Jo and Ellens death always gets me, this is a top tier ep
great to see people still reacting to this masterpiece, im almost finished with season 12, keep on reacting! love the content, its very entertaining! :)
Remember Jesse disappeared and he could never be found unless he wanted to be founded , I believe they did this because of how op he was , he was just a child and already strong af and they even said he could destroy all of heaven
You guys missed Lucifers line about Sam saying yes to him within 6mos and in Detroit. That falls in line with what Dean said happened to Sam in Detroit in 5x4
Omg Crowley!!! I love him so much I can’t wait for more! & my boi Death…Mr Grim Reaper himself…one of the best characters in the show I am SO excited for y’all to meet him finally 😃😃😃
Man I just finished watching this episode like 2 hours ago. I usually avoid watching this episode for obvious reasons 😔😔 but also it’s one of the best episodes of supernatural.
For such a sad episode, ya'll made me laugh so hard lmao RIP Also with all this Gordon, Helen, Joe exotic name business I really can't tell anymore if you guys know names or not for real. The name mix up are the best part of this channel cuz u say them with such confidence XD
The last seconds make me thinking about the bloopers. Oh, you're wondering what could that be ? How such a tough moment could be in the bloopers ? Well, watch it and make it a reaction 😋
19:31 wow i'm dumb i just realized it was foreshadowed that the colt wouldn't work bc in 5x04 future dean also had it and yet he still lost to lucifer and died
When I tell you I yelled "Crowley!" aloud once I realized what episode this was, I mean it. My dad looked at me like I was crazy. XD Like I saw the dude running under the bridge and knew immediately. Also yall know her name is Ellen not Helen right? XD
I understand now that they burned the picture to give them a hunters funeral since they didn't have their bodies. But I feel like they could have found another random picture of Ellen and Jo and kept that one.
Nah, bro, cuz think about it. They took that picture seconds after Cas admitted they were going on a suicide mission AND the next day half the squad died. It wasn't just to give them a hunter’s burial. None of them wanted to be reminded of the epic failure that was their mission, which also ties in to the title of the episode, because they all went into it being optimistic about killing the Devil and walked away with half the family dead, Satan still breathing, and Death being awakened. Hence, “Abandon All Hope.”
Lucifer needs Death and the rest of the Horsemen for the apocalypse. Death comes in times of great catastrophe, I'm pretty sure the freaking apocalypse is supposed to get a 'catastrophic' death count
One of the saddest episodes in the whole show, but the upside is you’ve met Crowley now, and his character only gets better with each season he’s around.
really good episode. So much happened. Crowley is here!! 😍Ellen and Jo dying was sad, get used to ''bringing characters back just to kill them'' bc it never ends... 🥲Lucifer summoning Death, his vessel melting and the Colt not killing him...
Cameron wants to be taxidermied? Better idea? Get turned into a diamond and put into a nice piece of jewelry, become a family heirloom. Or Divek and Davion can fight over it.
26:42 All they said so far in the show is that the hoursemen are the ones to bring the apocalypse that's why Lucifer needs them. And Nath that Logic with Death wouldn't make sense for someone who didn't watch the show first so take it easy on them hhhh. Joey's death is freaking sad and it did make us mad and still does.
Sorry guys, wish you could've been spared. Or at least warned, but everyone hates spoilers. At least you finally met Crowley. And as awesome as Crowley is, there's even better to come. A fiery ginger Scotswoman always yelling "Fergus!" It's just too bad she's several seasons away.
I’d say Ellen and Jo’s deaths were sad only because of the connection they had with Sam and Dean, they’ve been around for like five seasons, helped the Winchesters in some cases and became fans’ favorite characters cause they strongly wanted Dean and Jo to get together and all that. They were close to Sam and Dean like family, that’s why it hurts. And also I’m backing up Nathan, that hellhound was probably going to kill Dean had Jo not did anything. And that would’ve triggered Sam to go after Lucifer and he would’ve said yes if Lucifer offered to bring back Dean from the dead, playing right into his hands.
You know with Lucifer being an angel you would think the demons would realize he ain’t on their side. Sure he isn’t on the side of heaven either, but because demons, in this show, are just twisted human souls and Lucifer HATES humans it’s only natural he hates them too. Crowley while he does have moments us fans hate, was smart to realize Lucifer would turn on the demons as well which makes me love him. Can’t wait to see your guys reaction to more Crowley there are moments when you want to kill him and moments when you want to save him.
I may be one of the few, maybe only, people who never shipped Dean and Jo. I just never felt that chemistry between them. I mean, they have chemistry, but Dean has definitely had better and more chemistry with other women. And Dean and Jo's relationship had this weird thing where one minute Dean sees Jo as a little sister and the next minute, he's coming onto her. But I guess that's what makes the relationship complicated. I've always saw a parallel between Jo and Ellen and Sam and Dean and I'm surprised no one picked up on it. Jo always wanted Ellen to treat her like an adult, even in her last moments, and Sam wanted Dean to do the same for him. Jo and Ellen have had a moment where they have had an argument, split, and worked separately just as Sam and Dean have done. Jo wants her freedom like Sam and Ellen is overprotective like Dean. Anyway, Jo and Ellen's deaths didn't affect me either. Matter of fact, there's only been two instances where someone's death got to me in all 15 seasons of the show. I liked the characters and I do think their deaths were sad, but I think it has more to do with me not being emotionally attached to them. Lucifer said something about Sam saying "yes" to him in Detroit and I instantly thought about the episode "The End" (5x04). Future Dean tells Dean that Lucifer arrived in Detroit and Sam didn't make it, but then he further explained that Sam said "yes." So maybe that future that Dean saw wasn't completely a Zachariah trick, but it does beg the question about why Sam said "yes." Did Lucifer tell him that Dean was dead, and he'll bring him back if he said "yes" to him? That seems plausible considering that Sam and Dean in the future had been separated for 5 years, so Sam wouldn't have known whether Dean was dead or not.
Wait... if I did my math correctly (I probably didn't) and they post supernatural twice a week (I honestly can't remember how many times they post supernatural so I'm just guessing here)... then it should take 112 weeks (and a day) for them to finish the series (not including the episodes they've already seen/posted)..... I think
To answer your question Davion (Potential Spoilers): Lucifer would use the 4 Horsemen to help with the Apocalypse. War, Famine and Pestilence all agree with and want to help Lucifer. Death is simply bound to him by a spell.
i feel what y’all are saying but jesse not coming back is honestly good for the show, that kid was way too powerful for the time period of the show and would have made the boys journey so much easier. they cook up some cool stuff way later tho that i think makes up for the disappointment. great reaction as always tho gang, keep up the fireeeeee 🔥
I love that line where Lucifer says "they're just demons." It proves Crowley was right.
Hadn't thought of it until now, but burning the picture was likely their way of giving them a hunter's funeral, since there wasn't bodies to burn the traditional way.
Davion, that's because Crowley is awesome 😂 you guys can find out the type of guy he is but no matter what his character just hooks you.

Fun fact btw, Kripke killed off Ellen & Jo because he didn't want anyone else writing them when he was gone.
I know this comment is late but thank goodness they were killed off, the later seasons would’ve ruined their characters like they did many others.

Oh I fell in love with her right from the start! She was such a breath of fresh air & a fun character!
They burnt the photo as a symbol for a hunter's ritual funeral since there weren't bodies to burn.
Crowley´s actor Mark Sheppard is arguably the best actor that have been in this show and also his character is more likely the best character.
crowly best character after castiel ngl
Death is his own entity. He doesn’t work for god and he doesn’t work for lucifer. He doesn’t take sides.
The episode isn’t garbage because someone you like dies lol that is a dumb way to judge an episode. Lol
Clearly it was an exaggeration plz grow a pair
It’s sad that Ellen and jo died but they went out like badasses
I hope you guess watch the whole show, you have such a long journey ahead of you. But its so worth it!
finally one of my favorites: Crowley :3
I think
To answer your question Davion (Potential Spoilers):
Lucifer would use the 4 Horsemen to help with the Apocalypse.
I love crowley so much
10:50 Donna was one of my top favorite companions XD
