We use the dish water to fill the toilet for the morning #2 fill and flush. We also have a 5 gallon Igloo for our drinking water. It rides in the shower on travel days. We wash dishes starting with very little wash water and the rinsing adds to it as we rinse into the dishwater.
Love catching the cold water pot in the shower. We took solar heated showers twice this past week in our shower tent. We were at Hovenweep with only flushing toilets. I thought I would never take a shower like that but it was amazing. None of our energy sources used. If y'all have never been to Hovenweep y'all would love it but don't plan to use the camp ground as it is older and was originally created for tents.
Another idea is spraying with vinegar and water mix and wiping out dishes and pots and pans with a paper towel before washing saves on garbage going into the tank and less water washing. Thank you for sharing !
Great ideas, very practical. I loved the part about Fay's Mom. I was visiting at our local Veterans home and met a Tuskegee Airmen once and I felt like you two must felt in this video. Just meeting him was a treat.
Water Saver You take your Rinse water and use that to Flush the Toilet instead of just dumping it in your Gray Tank. Or you Filter it and Water any of the Vegetation that is around your Campsite to save Gray Tank space and help out the plants. This works in the winter also. Joan
I like the tip about 2 bins in the sink. I use cold shower water for the dog's water dish. My tip (in addition to foaming hand soap) is to dilute shampoo a bit. You still get the lather, your hair is just as clean, but it takes a LOT less water to rinse out the shampoo. Also use "leave-in" conditioner, then no water wasted to rinse that out! Can also dilute dish detergent.
My fav tip, that's similar to this one, I put Shampoo on my dry hair right before I jump in, that way your already shampooing as soon as you get wet initially. I use the collapsible bucket for catching my cold water, that way I smash it back down and store in shower!
the water you saved in the shower can be saved for a so called spit bath. Warm the water on the stove and in the shower use the water to get wet and then soap up and use the water to rinse.
OMG! I am so honored, that you shared my Mom's story! She always been amazing to me but to hear your salute to her has brought tears to my eyes. I cant wait to show her the video tomorrow. Safe travels my new friends!

We just took a 6 week trip in our Casita Travel Trailer. We used Huggies Natural baby wipes to clean up on the days we didn’t shower. My hair is long, so I braid it to keep it from getting as dirty. I also prepared food ahead of time before boondocking so that all I had to do was heat it up on the stove. The other thing that we do is we have silverware for at least 2 days along with us so that we can not wash dishes for a couple of days. We just save the silverware for the next day. Thanks for sharing your tips.
Squee! Buckees is THE BEST! It's absolutely impossible not to go inside when you stop lol. A spritzer bottle with plain water just to rinse hands after eating or any other lite duty occasion where water would work. too long of a list, just use your imagination. A second spritzer with water and some vinegar for dish rinsing/washing.. again for lite duty cleaning. Not for cleaning the 'rib' tray! ;) great for cleaning anyting that shines or glass too. the vinegar acts as a sanitizer and grease cutter and odour remover. You could do the same with lemon juice. It would smell nicer but probably cost more. I would toss my full dish pan into the plants or grass during hot summer months to help the greenery also needing water. So many places enduring drought these years! The trees and grass need the water too! Hope this helps.
I'm sure you've heard of COMBAT SHOWERS? As a aircrew member you don't always have the time to get to a laundrymat. So we had to jump into the shower with your clothes on . As you wash your flight suit , you take it off after a wash and rinse and then the tee shirt and skivvies, I guess that's what they call underwear in the NAVY. Socks and then you shower.

Fay's mom is another great "Hidden Figures." Great story!!! Another water hack is to keep spray bottles at each sink. They are your go to first instead of opening the faucet for every little usage. Phil... No spraying Stacey!!! Safe travels!!! Brendan & Lena

We are actually watching this video for a second time! It was good the first time but I learned some from the second time as well. A tip we have learned in the interim is using a spray bottle with water and a little bit of liquid soap in it. You spray your dishes etc rather than putting them into a water bath to get soapy. That way, you are just using water for the rinse process!!! At the time when we watched this we are I think 24 days from the election and your story about the 81 year old lady that was a JAG is inspirational. Thank for sharing.
COE parks look nice. What is the best way to find and research them and are reservations required? What is the average cost and any discounts available?
Reservations are not required but they are awesome and they will book! We have seen $14-25 but if you have a national senior pass or access pass it is half off. We have paid as little as $7 a night and have never been disappointed! Recreation.gov is their website and IOS app. You can also find them on Allstays and Campendium.
Excellent video. Ok you say you take a Navy shower. But you did not explain how your good lady wife washes her long hair or shaves while boondocking. In my experience these are two areas where a lot of water can be used. When I used to camp we would also use the water from the shower bucket to flush/rinse the commode.
Love your videos, sorry I'm kinda late to this b one. We are about a year from going full time. I'm wondering how you decided on this state & mailing service for your "home address"?
I really liked this video. The way you took us around with you and giving us tips as you went along. It is amazing the people that you meet as you go on your travels is amazing, what a wonderful woman that overcame tremendous odds against her. My favorite water conservation tip was the cooking ahead of time. I liked catching the water while it is cold water in the pot. Mayra and I would use it for our water distiller and make drinking water since we would heat up food in the microwave oven and use disposable plates and utensils for eating so there will be minimal dishes to wash. Still my favorite retired military RVer couple.
Please be conservative of using disposables, paper plates aren’t so bad but plastic utensils ☹️ a wet soapy rag and a cup or two of rinse water is all you need for silverware :)) thanks !!
LOL, when we go to Texas to see family, we camp right by a Bucees. I enjoy stopping when I'm not traveling. It's an event all by itself. Thanks for posting great Content. ET2 Mike. LOL
Great tip. I really like the one about rotating the wash and rinse water. Meeting Faye's mom must have been one of the highlights of your RV life so far. It would have been for me.
Most of these tips I've known for years, given that I grew up tent camping. There is no 'waiting for hot water:' there is none at the spigot down the road. You carry back a 3 or 4 gallon bucket of cold water, (very heavy and awkward when you're 12 years old), heat as needed for cooking, dishwashing, or sponge-bathing in the tent. The main bucket is your supply of drinking, cooking, and toothbrushing water. That said, I have what I think would be a great idea for water conservation in an RV, but it would require an engineering solution, and I'm not qualifed. But here it is: figure out a way to route gray water to use for flushing the toilet, so your potable water isn't being used that way. Another double-duty water-saving use before the wastewater hits the dump station!
Phil I'm ten years your senior and was 4yrs Navy, 76-80 USS. Constellation CV-64. I was E5 GMM when I was discharged. You remind me of my E8 I worked for. Love you guys! Been watching for some time now. Be safe!
When I stayed at a corporate campground as a guest, I had no hot water. I bought an pressure-type insecticide sprayer and filled it with water. I hung it in a tree outside my trailer during the day. When it came time for a shower, I simply transferred it to the shower stall and used the pressurized water for a wonderful hot shower. CAUTION: The water will be very HOT!
Don't throw out your dishwater! Use it to flush the potty!! In our sticks and bricks house we had to wait 9 months for a new well to be dug! We learned ALL about water saving during that time! When you have to take a huge 250 gallon tank somewhere and back fill your home regularly you learn FAST about doing it and with 3 kids!!
Dish washing: I start with just enough water to start, maybe 1 in or so to wash silver ware, then as I rinse I am adding water to wash dishes, as this goes on I have enough water to wash pots & pans. This cuts water down by about 50%
I believe it was said the Stacy was a Navy nurse but I would be very interested to know what Phil did in the Navy. Please forgive me if you've already answered this question.
@@todayissomeday Thank you for your reply. I know several nurse practitioners and have great respect for what they do . (Don't know too much about data processing,) I had to look up Mustang to read about what that meant. Impressive, no 90 day wonders. Thank you both for your service. You've created a beautiful retirement and you both deserve every minute of it. I'll be following.
Just got a new RV - how often do you change out your water tank with fresh water if you don't use that much for a period of time? Sorry - may sound really stupid but being a newbie, I have so many questions. Anyone out there have any advise?
We sanitize ours once a year, but we are always using it, refilling and dumping. You can do it as often as you need too.....especially if it has sat for a while. No stupid questions at all.....ask a way.
When you are at parks with 30 amp... does this mean you have to change something in the rig to accommodate? Or are you not able to use certain functions within the rig? Is 50 amp the other and only set up?
Great question.....we do have to change the shore setting on our Magnum controller to indicate we are receiving 30 amp's. We can still run everything......just not at the same time, depending in what is running. No microwave and AC at the same time our we will trip the breaker. We will normally run one AC (front during the day) at a time and switch them at night if it is hot out. We do carry a dogbone (50 amp to 30 amp adapter). We can also plug into a 15 amp and have to change the settings like above to indicate 15 amps coming in.....but just for a trickle charge to the batteries and keep the fridge running. Hope this helps.
Staying at the COE park, did you use an Access Pass for a DAV discount? If you did, how much was the discount? Thinking about using the COE in the future, but want to know how well the Access Pass works for the discount.
Yes we use the access pass at all COE and some state campgrounds. You can also use a senior pass for discounts as well. The discount for COE is 50% with both of those passes. When booking online there is a box to put in your access/senior card number to get the discount and be prepared to show the card at check in.
This is probably one of my favorite episodes. You kept me engaged. Good Job! As a tin-can sailor in the early '70, fresh water was a luxury. We would sail often for the closes rain storm to go on deck to have a rain shower. Life lessons has help us to maximize our boon docking experience. For comment, I would add that we replace our traditional water heater in our RV with a on-demand gas water heater and set the temperature to a comfortable shower temp.. Very, very little wasted water doing the Navy Shower.
Awesome video as always! Glad to see you on the road again. For us, we use a dual shower head. One is a full flow, the other a low flow. We switch heads for hook up versus a Navy shower. In addition I have a switchable set of T-fitting’s in the backend of my external shower which switches me from the primary feed to my grey water or a set of 7 gallon Walmart tanks. Most of the stuff I’m spraying down outside can leverage the grey. And if fresh is needed, it’s there. And if off grid I can leverage the portable cans which are easy to transport for a refill. In addition I have a 5 gallon under the kitchen faucet as an accum tank so I don’t have the pump running as often.
We have been catching the cold water at the beginning of our showers for years in our sticks and bricks. We have to pay for our water and it really saves money. We use it either in the washer or to flush toilets. Also have a dehumidifier in the the basement and use that water in the washer.
I don’t pay for water but have some friends who hooked it up so the washing machine rinse water drained into a washtub and then back into the washer for the next load to wash, good way to conserve water at home anyway !
Wow! This is so helpful. We lived on catchment water in Hawaii and put a tub in the shower to use that cold water later. Silly I never even thought of doing it in the RV. I loved getting tips while you showed us around. Thanks!

You guys are rocking on the PT, Phil I saw the shot of those tri's, not too shabby my man, I can tell you seen the front leaning rest a few times haha!! Great tips on the water, I had never considered the rotation from the shower to rinse to wash, mindblown. Genius ideas that I will definitely put to use. I agree with your completely! Faye and her Mom are just amazing!! He has done one or two of those in his day! We are popping them out again!! Gotta tone up!
All caught up to your current episode. You are 1 of 3, of whom I’ve watched all their videos. I enjoy watching KYD and Jared Gillis/All about RV’s. About a year behind on LJ,MJ. If I could, I’d just shut cable tv off and have internet only and just a arch all my RV RUclips people, uhh, but I’m not the only one in the house, watching tv, lol!
Thank you Stacy and Phil, Paul and I are going to start boondocking tomorrow (Monday, April 8th) for the next 10 days actually! This video really can in handy and informative!!!! See you guys on the road hopefully sometime! 😉 😊
Ditch the weights, save the diesel get a set of X3 bands. Bands are tightest (most resistance) at the full extension, which also happens to be where you are strongest...different thicknesses for more or less resistance. We have them at the gym and you are less likely to get injured using bands as well. 👍👍
Thanks for the great water savings tips...we sure learned a lot. First thing we did to conserve water was to change out our faucet aerators and switched to low flow .5gpm. Also we switched out our shower to a RV Fury by Oxygenics. 👍🏼
You mentioned that you were filling the black water tank with cold shower water and then switched to the gray water tank. How did you do this? Our RV shower only drains into the gray tank. Your tips are great, keep them coming.

But here it is: figure out a way to route gray water to use for flushing the toilet, so your potable water isn't being used that way. Another double-duty water-saving use before the wastewater hits the dump station!
That would be a game changer for our tanks that is for sure!
Thx for access pass tip! Got my pass today!
Yay!! I am so glad!!
Great ideas!
Thanks
Is Buckeys only in Texas?
No, they have stretched to FL now.
Phil I'm ten years your senior and was 4yrs Navy, 76-80 USS. Constellation CV-64. I was E5 GMM when I was discharged. You remind me of my E8 I worked for. Love you guys! Been watching for some time now. Be safe!
Great tips!! Thank you! I use my dish washing water to flush the toilet also.
That is using your noodle!
We do dump it in our black tank. Sometimes to flush sometimes just to dump. But you are right it should also be used!
Dish washing: I start with just enough water to start, maybe 1 in or so to wash silver ware, then as I rinse I am adding water to wash dishes, as this goes on I have enough water to wash pots & pans. This cuts water down by about 50%
That is brilliant! I love it. Thanks for sharing!
Water-saving trick ... Unconditional love ... Saves shower water
Love it
I believe it was said the Stacy was a Navy nurse but I would be very interested to know what Phil did in the Navy. Please forgive me if you've already answered this question.
I am a nurse practitioner but in the Navy I was a data processor. Phil started as an undesignated seaman and retired as an 0-4 (Mustang)
@@bird10498 Thanks so much and we are so glad you will be joining along!
Great idea about catching shower water and reuseing sink
Thanks
Question I'm a non-com veteran am I restricted from all military campgrounds or just certain ones I do have a honorable discharge in 74
Love your videos. Our trailer arrived Friday, hope to pick it up next week.
Congratulations!! That is awesome! See you out there!
We’ve learned so much from you guys.
That tip about the pot in the shower. Is the best tip ever.
Thank you. 👍
Good info.... bet Phil doesn't use much water on his hair ;-)
How did you know!
There is NO good time to travel through Houston. I live here. Crazy ALWAYS😖
Great tips! Thanks! The shower tip is my favorite!
Thanks!
@@todayissomeday .. understood.. thank you
Pink top, pink drink. Red top, red Jeep. On purpose or accident? : )
Both an accident! The Jeep was used to color was not an option. I do LOVE pink but the BCAAs just happened to be watermelon!
The JAG story was awesome and a testimony of the human character and perseverance!
I agree with you 100%. I am still in glowing from that chance encounter.
Sounds like such a wonderful women... we all need to take time to speak to our elders, they have so much knowledge 😀
Thank you so much! That means a lot to us! We would over to switch to on demand. It is on our someday list! PS Thank you for your service!
Wow! You are really set up for water savings!
Thank you for the tips and your service to this country.
Thank you for hanging out with us!
We have been catching the cold water at the beginning of our showers for years in our sticks and bricks. We have to pay for our water and it really saves money. We use it either in the washer or to flush toilets. Also have a dehumidifier in the the basement and use that water in the washer.
Wow that is very clever and a great way to save $$
I don’t pay for water but have some friends who hooked it up so the washing machine rinse water drained into a washtub and then back into the washer for the next load to wash, good way to conserve water at home anyway !
Very cool story at the end!!
Right! I was just fascinated talking to her! We were so lucky to meet them.
Wow! This is so helpful. We lived on catchment water in Hawaii and put a tub in the shower to use that cold water later. Silly I never even thought of doing it in the RV.
I loved getting tips while you showed us around. Thanks!
Thanks! I guess you knew the trick all along! lol
Nice video guys , thanks for sharing.
Thanks
You guys are the best! Your videos are so educational and entertaining. We look forward to seeing your new videos each week. Our "someday" hasn't happened but when it does we hope to meet you guys on the road!! Thank you, Cindi and David AKA CiCi and Poppys Adventures
Hey Cindy and David! I am so glad you are hanging out with us! We cant wait to meet you guys on the road. Don't wish away your days waiting on your someday and find a little someday in today.
Robin from CreativityRV had an interesting video on evaporating your grey water tank so you can boondock longer. It was an interesting video! Thanks for all your tips. My husband and I have a date to go on the road and I'm trying to learn all I can first. You guys have been very helpful!
Thanks for hanging out with us. I haven't heard about evaporating grey water I will have to check it out.
Ditto, I'm gathering info for later use. I'm addicted to ymrv videos!
First let me express my eternal gratitude to Mrs. Faye for her service, dedication, and sacrifice. I do not have to words to adequately say what needs to be said, all I can say is THANK YOU!! Thanks for the great video, you guys never fail to put together an awesome one - safe travels!
I agree with your completely! Faye and her Mom are just amazing!! He has done one or two of those in his day! We are popping them out again!! Gotta tone up!
Thank you!! Happy and safe travels ✌🏻
Great Tips Love you both
Awww Thanks! You are so sweet!
All caught up to your current episode. You are 1 of 3, of whom I’ve watched all their videos. I enjoy watching KYD and Jared Gillis/All about RV’s. About a year behind on LJ,MJ. Then a bunch of whom I’m subscribed to, that I’ve gotten from you and others, just not enough time to keep up with everyone. If I could, I’d just shut cable tv off and have internet only and just a arch all my RV RUclips people, uhh, but I’m not the only one in the house, watching tv, lol!
I'm with you on the cable! I have my scissors ready but Phil will never go for it! Thanks so much for hanging out with us! It means the world to me.
Thank you Stacy and Phil, Paul and I are going to start boondocking tomorrow (Monday, April 8th) for the next 10 days actually! This video really can in handy and informative!!!! See you guys on the road hopefully sometime! 😉 😊
Awesome! Great timing! Good luck. I hope you found a great location.
We missed you by a day! We were there heading back north from Galveston after our cruise!
No way!! Bummer.
Love you guys. I'm getting ready to go out on my own fulltime myself. I'm learning a lot from you, Keep it up and thank you.
Congrats! You will love it. There are a ton of solo RV'ers out there!
Great tips we do the navy showers but we also have a blue boy and use this to dump in and take it to the dump station
We havent purchased a blue boy yet.
Thanks guys! Can't wait to start our journey. Just bought an Imagine and the snow is almost gone. Thanks for helping us newbees!
Snow! Yikes. Time for a warm up
Ditch the weights, save the diesel get a set of X3 bands. Bands are tightest (most resistance) at the full extension, which also happens to be where you are strongest...different thicknesses for more or less resistance. We have them at the gym and you are less likely to get injured using bands as well. 👍👍
Never been to a Bucky-s, gotta go and check out the jerky counter! That's cool.
They are the BEST and they are spreading out of Texas now so you might find them popping up in FL and AL
@@todayissomeday sweet
Yet again... great info. I loved the workout segment! That's what I need to start.
We finally did it at our site. It was nice to be outside and not be rushed like at a traditional gym.
Thanks for the great water savings tips...we sure learned a lot. First thing we did to conserve water was to change out our faucet aerators and switched to low flow .5gpm. Also we switched out our shower to a RV Fury by Oxygenics. 👍🏼
You are already doing it right. We have something new were are trying on our faucet.....will review it later if it works well.
Great video! Great tips!
You mentioned that you were filling the black water tank with cold shower water and then switched to the gray water tank. How did you do this? Our RV shower only drains into the gray tank. Your tips are great, keep them coming.
We held the shower head over the toilet until it was warm! lol
Really liked the way you formatted this one :) A day in the life AND saving water :) Great idea!
Thank you! I was trying to do something a little different and provide info some people have been requesting.
Great tips and a great story about the lady you met that was a Jag officer. How amazing. I love Always on Liberty and we hope to meet them this summer if they come to MT.
They are hilarious! Did you see they are starting a YT channel too?
Becoming a winter Texan soaking up the sunshine in the RGV and headed to Magnolia Beach to boondock. Nice video. Go Navy!
Thanks!! Go Navy!
Welcome to Houston
Right!
Great tips. Off topic but...do you make reservations before you get to your destinations? Or do you just wing it?
Well you will be happy to know that is our Wednesday video in our Q&A series!!
@@todayissomeday cool! Thanks!
Amen...all the 'best' stuff can really add up! :) Great video guys!
But we have to try them all! We are like moths to a flame! LOL
Oh gosh you two....looking good Thank you for that story of Ms Faye...maybe another story line for you all of the amazing people you meet along the way ....and even though you didn't plan it ..the red white and blue at the end of the video was pretty awesome ..safe travels..
Thanks! I am glad everyone is so open to me adding that side story of Faye and her Mom. It really meant so much to me to meet them so I couldnt help but share.
Love the shower water save, I always hated wasting that....never thought of such a simple thing!! Is there a good time to go through Houston, I don't think I've ever found one!! Enjoy your videos so much, thank you!!
Never is the best time!
Yeah, agree. We drive a big rig semi. We have our class A, and hope to start traveling in a couple years. But really the only time to go through there is in the middle of the night! 😄
Love the tip of using rinse water the next day for washing. Great Video!
Thanks
