Pneumothorax // Hindi animated

Pneumothorax is a condition in which there is accumulation of air in the pleural cavity which leads to collapse of the lungs.
Pneumothorax is a common respiratory problem.
Anatomy
There are two layers covering the lungs namely- Parietal pleura and Visceral pleura.
Parietal Pleura is attached to the ribs while visceral lies directly onto the lungs
In between both this pleura lies a potential space called as the pleural cavity which contains the pleural fluid. This space fills up with air sometimes which changes 5he equilibrium maintained within the thoracic cavity. If too much air accumulates than it does not allow inflation of the lungs.
Causes/ Classification
Traumatic Pneumothorax
Atraumatic Pneumothorax
Traumatic thorax occurs as a result of trauma or injury
It includes trauma or injury occuring to the thoracic cavity like stab wounds, rib fracture , or surgical wounds of the thoracic cavity done during procedures like chest tube insertion, central line insertion etc.
Atraumatic Pneumothorax is further classified as primary spontaneous Pneumothorax or secondary Pneumothorax.
Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax - occurs due to factors that are naturally present in the patient. eg. tall, smoking, pregnancy etc.
Secondary Pneumothorax occurs as a result of disease processes. eg. Asthma, tuberculosis and Lung cancer.

Open Pneumothorax
Close Pneumothorax
Tension Pneumothorax
Open Pneumothorax - Injury to parietal pleura
Close Pneumothorax- Injury to Visceral Pleura
Tension Pneumothorax- Accumulation of the air into the pleura.
Symptoms
- Breathlessness
- Pain on breathing
- Hypotension
- jugular venous distention
- Assymetrical breathing
- Tachycardia
- Tachypnea
- Cyanosis
Diagnostic tests
- Chest X ray
- CT scan
- Ultrasound
Treatment
Mild cases
- No treatment required
- Kept on observation
- Oxygen maybe started
Severe cases
- Needle aspiration
- Chest tube insertion
- Pleurodesis : Chemical, autologous blood patch , mechanical etc.
- Video assisted Thoracoscopy
Precaution
- Avoid air travel if at risk
- Avoid scuba diving if at risk
- Avoid smoking

thank u ma'am , pneumothorax हुआ था chest में tube डाल कर इलाज़ हु था पर हल्का हल्का दर्द रहता है, 6 साल हो गया है , इसके करन डिप्रेशन भी होता है .

Normally pain nhi rehta. 6 years baad bhi pain ho raha hai, to doctor ko consult karne ki jarurat hai. Don't be depressed, I know ke bolna assan hai, but fir bhi, hosla rakho sab thik ho jayega. Doctors se baat karo wo aapki madad kar denge. Get well soon. 🙏
