The guitar is a left-handed model that Gruff nicked off his brother as a kid. To obsure the cutaway on the 'wrong' side of the guitar, he mad a hand-painted piece of card attached with velcro~ that's what the fin thing is. He explained this at a solo spot he did at a folk thing at Ceil Sharp House last month.
@paisleymacleod Hey, that's a legitimate xylophone!!!!!! He doesn't use it as a rhythm instrument. Rather, he's plinking out specific notes that compliment the melody of the song. The xylophone player also plays complimentary chords further down the neck on his steel-string guitar. That said, all that really matters is that we enjoy the song, eh? :)
@SunburntHands -- Interesting, but you have one element of the story reversed. The guitar is actually a right-handed model that Gruff turned into a lefty by having the nut and saddle reversed. A guitar that was built as a lefty would have had the cutaway in the correct place for a left-handed player. Cheers! :)
Im sure its a cheap classical guitar, with home made bits attached. Seen him use it at Glasto doing the Candylion bit two years ago. Other than that, not a clue.
Sexy is not the word...inhumanly attractive? I've had a crush on him for going on 13 years now, tried to runaway from it but...ahhhh he's just too inhumanly attractive...
wow a right handed guitar played upside down with the strings on the right way??????? That would be like A right handed person playing a left handed guitar uside down...
