    Surprised you left out "military grade". There's a misconception that the military uses materials & equipment that's far better than the stuff that civilians usually use, but in reality, militaries often use the cheapest gear, as long as it does the job.

    • @anothersquid
      @anothersquid 4 месяца назад

      Military also uses a lot of overpriced bullshit. The jokes about the $50000 toilet seat are quite true. Of course, it's a regular Lowes toilet seat that has been subjected to mil-spec testing (hammer on it, freeze it to -40, heat it up to like +50 C, etc.) All that crazy testing costs money which gets passed on to the military who buy a bunch of seats at $50k a pop
      .../ and then Lowes gets to market a military grade toilet seat to customers for the regular price +50%.

      @mak4374 4 месяца назад +7

      There is a difference between cheap and lowest bidder. The military usually has very stringer and exact specifications, both in manufacture and testing, that makes equipment very expensive, but also very predictable. This was actually started by the air force and nasa back when 25% of pilots would get killed for unknown malfunctions, and they found out that this methodology worked for the M-16's when they first got introduced and started jamming. After that they created whole sections in every branch, just to come up with the exact specifications for most products - also the reason why they changed the uniforms a few years ago, when they found out that they actually didn't work as intended. Yes, "military grade" is used by anyone to sell their stuff, but there are civilian equipment actually held to those standards - mostly in the electronics section and things that have to do with weather protection. I have an old laptop that I have dropped from a ten foot ladder - not on purpose - with no problems, and surplase power cord connections running 240 volts out in water puddles.

      I used to write MIL-Specs for USAF systems. Exactly right. No "Military Grade" anything. No such thing as "Aircraft Grade Aluminum". So many different materials are used for many purposes. The MIL-Specs have to specify the precise alloy required for use, mainly because the metal manufacturer has extensive data about that particular metal required.

    It never once, in 41 years of my life, EVER occurred to me that anyone might EVER think "no tears shampoo" was referring to anything other than tears from your eyes. I'm sitting here right now utterly bewildered at the idea that other people thought it meant tears like tearing the hair. Like... what even is the logic behind that? Hair can snap or break, but tear??? I've literally never heard of anyone claiming hair could be torn.

According to the ACCC, eggs labelled as ‘free range’ must come from hens that have meaningful and regular access to an outdoor range during the day, and are subject to a maximum outdoor stocking density of 10,000 hens per hectare. The outdoor stocking density must also be displayed on the packaging or signage.

      One of my biggest "pet peeves" in life, is when an advert on TV tells me something like "Our peas are picked and frozen on the same day, we know you'll love them" or " we have improved our grape juice, buy it in your supermarket today, youll be amazed how good it tastes". I used to fall for it. I always hated peas and grape juice, but then they say I'll love them, go buy them, guess what, still hate them, don't care wjem they were picked and frozen, they still tatse like peas, nothimg will make grape juice drinkable to me untill they replace the grapes with something like tequila. I totally inherited this grievance from my dad, or it maybe because I don't like being told I will like something because I'm told I will. Lol
      I'll buy something I want because I like it. I'll like a video because I want to and if I like it.
      Do you think people only press the like button because they are told to? Or because they may actually like the video?

    Mushrooms are classified by species AND size. Larger ones are obviously grown longer and therefore need more space and care, therefore a higher price. Depending on the dish, large strips or even whole caps are needed (grilled mushroom burger for instance)
    Red, yellow, and green peppers, also, are all the same; just different harvest times. But the ones that take the longest (red) tend to be slightly higher in price due to the extra time and care needed.
    Just because its "the same thing", it doesn't mean it cost the same to grow

    • @mattyt1961

      And definitely not the same flavour for either mushrooms, or peppers

    Sauteed in butter with just a touch of salt, and mounted on a roux, mushrooms are delightful. Chanterelles are especially wonderful. But I almost always get rid of the actual mushroom itself, yeah they end up with the texture of rubber.
    I use mushrooms in sauces where the texture can't really intrude. Truffles are great but there is so much faux truffle it kinda ruins it. Anyway, haven't seen you for awhile, and delighted to see another Karl video :D

    Well, the no-tear shampoo does work in some cases. The example you gave with the egg is not quite right, as long chain molecules does have a harder time penetrating membranes like in the eye, so making them less irritating. This is also why many skin creams are a scam because they contain collagen, which is simply too big a molecule to penetrate the skin. You can also just use less irritating surfactants which, of course, is a trade-off as the shampoo won't work as well.

    billboard "is your hijab certified halal ?" sparking debates of how a cloths is categorized halal, are general clothes not halal, is this deeming other clothes are haram ?
    and there's "Klepon are not halal, our dates imported from Arabic and halal", Klepon are our 100yo traditional cakes, suddenly call them "not halal" and then promoting outsides product for what sake

    Chop button mushrooms into a bowl/pot, put them in microwave with a bit of butter, then add to a bolognese. It elevates everything greatly that way with the mushrooms cooked and still in melted butter.

    "Organic" is also a meaningless term. Not only are all foods organic in the scientific sense anyway, there are no rules about what constitutes an organically farmed whatever, and even if there were, there's literally nobody enforcing any rules or standards. It's just another meaningless label slapped onto stuff to con the rubes into paying more for the same damned thing.
    Furthermore, even with brands or individuals that do actually follow some "organic" standard willingly, all "organic" means in those cases is "farmed without using artificial chemicals." Note, that does NOT say "farmed without *harmful* chemicals." Plenty of things used in "organic" farming are natural products that are still nonetheless just as harmful as the artificial chemicals used in normal farming, and often times are even MORE dangerous than their artificial counterparts.

    The mushrooms may be the same species but that doesn't mean the maturity doesn't matter. Oh and fish in sushi doesn't have to be raw, and I don't encounter it that way. Sashimi is thinly sliced raw fish or sometimes meat, but isn't usually served with sushi rice.

    The word "superfood" was originally coined by a reporter. They were doing an article on certain foods that were being studied to see if they had any extra nutritional benefits. Either the scientist included the word as a descriptive or the reporter made it up - either way the word made it into the news article long before the study was finished.

    I always thought sushi grade fish was talking more about the safety of the fish to be eaten raw. I don't live near any bodies of water, so if I want to make any sushi at home, I can't just use any defrosted fish in stores. It has to be flash freeze or baterica could make you sick if you eat it raw. If I lived near a place that caught and sold their fish fresh, that would be safer to use.

Although I don't mind them when their all mixed in a spag bol and such, that's still me with liver and kidney because there's no mistaking it, you know it's there as soon as you bite into it. Although, I haven't had a raw mushroom in years, since we'd go with my dad, shopping and he could be my double sized optical shield so I can sneak a mushroom in my gob and walk a round eating a carrot.
