    If ødegaard being out for a few weeks causes a collapse, then Arsenal clearly don't have a squad anywhere near strong enough to win the league. Having Rice and ødegaard out for the nld is a big blow, but a side that wants to win the league should still have the squad depth to put out a strong side and win the game.

    • @robhans5

    If John Stones had been a split second too late to clear that ball off the line and liverpool had gotten a point out of that 2-1 loss to City back in 2018/19 we would have been talking about Liverpool's first Premier League title, CL winners and Invincibles, AND, if the following season had then turned the way we know it did it would have back to back league titles for Liverpool and who knows what impact that could have ended up having on the league. I know this is a lot of hypotheticals, but my point is, if you get everything else right then a point against Man City can absolutely be the difference between the stuff of legend and the shoulda, woulda, couldas.

    • @TP-pq9xx
      @TP-pq9xx 6 дней назад +3

      The John Stones clearance would have been an extremely lucky goal for Liverpool, though. It would have been a fluke own goal by City, not anything Liverpool deserved.

      @@TP-pq9xx It would have come from Liverpool putting pressure on the City goal they would have deserved it, but I agree it would have been a lucky goal, you don't often see the City defense in 6's and 7's the way they were in that moment.

      @TP-pq9xx 6 дней назад +2

      @@benhogan6732 I just hear Liverpool fans talk about that moment a lot but it's always framed as if City got lucky or Liverpool were unlucky somehow. City almost got extremely unlucky, but it didn't quite happen. It wasn't like a lucky thing happened for City in the title race.
      Another "what if" scenario that no one ever talks about is what if Van Dijk had rightly been sent off against Napoli in the CL. Liverpool would have almost definitely gone out in the group stages of the campaign where they ended up winning the whole thing. And if Liverpool had the very poor CL campaign that they came extremely close to having already, maybe they don't push on to win the league the next year either.

    • @benhogan6732

      @@TP-pq9xx I'm certainly not trying to engage in tribalism here, it was the two best teams in England (probably in Europe) at the time and in a moment of chaos it almost went the other way. I'm only speaking on the matter of "the good point", it does still exist but the margins are so fine now you really do have to be perfect everywhere else. City have mastered this it's just about whether the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool can do the same.

    Arsenal was one of the clubs which had some of the fewest games missed through injury during 2023/24, compared to many other teams that suffered far more. It will be interesting to see how they perform, if they are one of the more unlucky clubs with injuries, this time around.

    I am very VERY curious though what Arteta will come up with. This is going to be a big test for him and the team. If we come out of the NLD (3) and Man City (1) game with 4 points, this could be a huge catalyst for the rest of the season.

    That photo at the beginning is from an iconic match in Arsenals history. As a Man City supporter I can't name all the players, but obviously recognise Niall Quinn and Viv Anderson.
    It was 1987, and Tottenham had been the main club in North London for a long time, and youngsters like me saw Tottenham as the bigger club. Tottenham were, as expected leading this cup tie, but Arsenal came back on won it. There was a realisation that their new manager George Graham was a bit special, and was building a great team. They'd go on to win the league twice leaving a legendary defence that Wenger would profit from. For people to young to remember, it's hard to comprehend that Tottenham were widely considered the main team in London back then.

    It was definitely NOT a good point last season and will not be this season too. The reason being, Man City are not a one time champions they are literally the kings of the PL. Theyve won 4 in a row, and at the time arsenal went to the Etihad, they were the treble winners. Arsenal is the one big club in England that sadly has an inferiority complex to Man City. Their own manager was nothing but assistant to Pep. To dethrone the Undisputed champion, you will never be able to win on points, you have to knock the fuck out of him like Ali did Liston, and when Arsenal went to the Etihad and literally parked the bus City knew these guys weren't real. They were fake. Rodri said it to sky, slightly in a rude manner too, after City won the league
    "Arsenal are a great team, but they didn't believe they are better than us, they came to the Etihad, and didnt want to play they played a low block, changed their style, we could see it in their eyes"
    Also, for those of us who are old enough to remember, in 2002, Arsenal were playing against the 3 in a row Man United and a point would've been good enough to win the title in the next home game at Highbury, but Vieira told the players, a point is not enough we are going there to win. They played on the front foot, this shook Man United players, and eventually Arsenal won 1-0 winning the title at Old Trafford.

      So Saliba getting injured and Arsenal having to play Rob Holding in the title run in in 22/23 is lucky? An offside goal counting against Brentford? Not to mention the Newcastle and Aston Villa games in 23/24? Red cards not being given to Bruno G and Diego C, the ball going out for a game winning goal, 2 penalties not being given against Villa (Foul on Jesus + Handball in last minute). Not to further mention Timber being injured last season from the get go. Martinelli, Jesus, ESR, Tomi, #5, etc. injured all of last season.

      If anything we were unlucky not to win the league but we will see. Your youtube name leads me to believe you do not watch football/ don’t understand the game but we will see.

    Hi Rory, Arsenal must take two wins from these three. If not it is over.

    Jorginho and Partey should be fine in a double pivot. If Jesus is available, then him and Havertz will create a box midfield with the wingers high.

    Should Arsenal fail in the next 4 games then it's very difficult to catch up to City and their hopes for the Premier League title dies.

    symbolically I think arsenal HAVE to beat city to win the league. I think the NLD is the only excuse arsenal have to lose points in the next few fixtures

    Like u say Rory for the first time Arsenal have to deal with injuries. About time Liv, Chelsea and Utd had a lot more last couple seasons and still didn't win the league. Stop crying and get on with it

    The only way Arsenal will win the league is if points are deducted for Man City. It's an over-hyped side.. they look a bit better now coz Chelsea and Man Utd are poor.

    Arsenal are cooked already, they were lucky to get points at villa too, welcome to real football arsenal suspensions and injuries that you have avoided for ages. I can see a big drop off but still top 4

    Arsenal won't win the league the squad was not improved they didn't have enough last season so how are they going to win this season they will run out of legs again and any injuries won't help

    I would prefer Havertz or Nwaneri as the 10, esp if Jesus is fit as 9, but could also have Trossard/Sterling as a false 9.
    If Calafiori is OK, Zinny/Timber in midfield as an 8, with Partey/Jorginho as the 6.
    Have to see, but hope Nwaneri will have a chance

    No they don’t rory. We could lose our next 2 league games and the season is nowhere near done. We’re 3 games in.

      When you're going against City, it matters massively. If we don't beat spurs this weekend, and City win their next game, that gap will already be too big to close on City.

      @@deeray4637 7 points with 33 games is not season over. Yes we would have to be near perfect but City will drop points. Better to drop these points early than later on.

    If Arsenal lose their next two games, and Liverpool and City win theirs, as early as it is in the season, it's going to be tough pulling back 8 points on both of them, especially City.
