THANK YOU! I just bought this camera last week (March 2024) and moved from a Canon to a Panasonic and didn't want to go thru the huge book that came with this camera.
I am definitely working on it! :) Are there any specific models you would like to see? I would be happy to add them to my list if I can get my hands on them!
Thank you Heather and Shutterbug 101. I recommend to anyone with LUMIX ZS100 to see your video first. It is the best ZS100 instructional video ever made; better than the actual Owner's Manual by Panasonic. I wish it was twice as long and included additional, detailed description of MENU/SET tabs and types mentioned by Heather in brief, such as [Setup] and [Custom]. I would love to learn from Heather what's behind each available option, and what they do, and don't do. For example, what is MF Assist Display PIP, Cust.Set Mem. and many other modes, hiding behind abbreviations and acronyms. But most of all, thank you for a job well done.
Completely agree with the comments below. Such a clear presentation with the correct flow. Starts with basics and then moves progressively through more niche aspects. So much better than the manual. Panasonic should hire shutterbug to do official videos for them. Bottom Line: If you buy this camera, watch this presentation first before you even open the package. You will have so much more confidence in using it. Thanks Shutterbug!
This is the best video I have seen on any piece of equipment on you tube that I have personally watched. There is very little that I could not find here. Better information than was provided by Panasonic as far as I can see. I think I will be referring back to this a bunch of times. I am going to be looking back at other work you are doing. Amazing job!
Thank you for all the time you have spent putting this together. You have already helped me to understand this camera. You certainly did not make me feel like an idiot.
Perfect just what I was looking for. Have you ever thought of doing more in depth videos? I would definitely pay for more detailed explanations. Your style of teaching is very easy to follow. I was very into 35 mm photography about 40 years ago and was feeling a little overwhelmed until your video. Edited for spelling.
Excellent video, thank you. I have been struggling with the user manual and getting nowhere. Your video explains the camera in a straight forward and uncomplicated way.
This was the best video i found about this camera. Just got it yesterday for birthday and felt kinda overwhelmed about the settings but you made it so simple and understandable. Thank you for the video! :)
I just purchased this camera yesterday, and reading through the manual was a nightmare. THANK YOU so much for making things understandable. Now that I understand the camera a little more, I need to watch your video again!
I have this camera and it is my go to camera for taking anywhere, good quality, easy to use, great for travel. I wanted a point and shoot with a viewfinder, so far after a couple of years I am very happy with it, good video, thank you.
Thank you for this video. I know nothing about cameras and this literally breaks everything down into a very understandable way. This has really helped me know how to use a camera with so many features and options
I just got this camera, and, this video is the best I have seen on all the features and how to use it. Thanks for a great presentation, no obnoxious music or extreanous chat.
I just got this camera. Your presentation was fantastic! I am overwhelmed with all the information presented, but I will watch this video multiple times to absorb what was presented. I am excited to start using this camera.
This is a Brilliant Video. Learned a lot. I recently sold my TZ100 got the TZ200 now I am back to the TZ100 as the pictures in low light are much better. Only advantage with TZ200 is the slightly larger zoom and better Quality viewfinder overall the TZ100 out performs the TZ200 in my Opinion.
Wow, incredible video of information for amateurs. I've had my camera for four years and stumbled through 4 years of trying to figure out the operational mode. I have watched this video twice and will probably watch it 10 more times. Awesome job! Thank you so much!!!!!
Thank you, Heather. I just got this camera and your video was very helpful. I appreciate how well you went through all the settings and features. I will be checking out more of your videos for sure!
I just purchased this camera and your video has been the best for getting an understanding of the basic functions. Thanks for doing it! Next is to start going through the manual to discover all the other settings that I can experiment with but because of your help, I can start shooting NOW.
Bought my ZS100 two years ago, found the menus confusing, and put it away. Bought a Canon G5 X Model I for its better controls, but it’s images are inferior. Returned it, got the ZS100 out of the drawer, watched your video, and I’m ready to go!
Thanks for this video. I bought this camera a week ago. Although I have experience with several cameras over a long period of time, this video saved me a lot of time in guiding me through the features of this camera. A great way to present things. Many thanks! ❤
Thank you such excellent description of how this camera works & all of its features & functions. I just purchased this had the earlier model that broke this one was very different & if it wasn't for you I would have never figured out how to close the flash I thought it would have automatically closed. I looked on several sites & you tube & you Rock & the best i have ever come by cant' thank you enough
I just got this camera and your video convinced me to keep it. I know it’s a great camera but it appeared difficult. Not with your explanation. Thank you so much.
WOW thank you so much . i have over the years tried to find an easy to understand but compehensive covering everything - resource for my panasonic. i could not understand teh manual becasue it was so technical and does not explain why and when ( and how) to use the different settings . I was getting fed up with it as did not seem as good as my simple point and shoot camera but now thanks to your well thought out and clearly explained video and your in depth knowledge I understand how to get the best out of it. If only I had seen this video when i first bought it . Brilliant ! Thank you so much for enabling me to now get interested and more confident in knowledgeably using the features and not just treating it as a point and shoot. Its you not Panasonic that has shown me its wonderful features . Thank you so much for all the time and effort in making this availabe - for free .
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! I'm really nervous about getting started and you helped me ease the anxiety a bit with your super sweet and and simple overview. Thank you!!!
Great instructional video on this camera. Only disagreement was when you said this is 'a simple camera'. Having spent 1.5 hrs trying to 'un-gray' the digital zoom, I was about to list camera online. But when you mentioned re-set function of settings, I tried these. And voila the digital zoom function appeared again. Great video.
Hello Heather, came across your video as a RUclips recommendation. Direct & to the point which I don't get very much. I have ZS 100 & still learning. Use it more than my Sony a7iiii.
Outstanding video. Extremely helpful to a beginner much like myself. The most valuable part was the stuff "I could ignore for now" as well as "buttons I might accidentally hit that will screw everything up". One minor, minor suggestion. Cut the background music. It's a bit distracting to the very helpful information that you provide.
Thank you! I have adjusted the music on my new videos so it is not distracting and just a background element. This channel has definitely been a learning experience!
lt has a viewfinder, manual mode for long exposure night photography, good zoom range, shoots RAW, and it's small. This may be the one for me. Thanks for the video.
Very helpful I have had my camera recently repaired and thought I should understand more in how it actually works so thanks for the information set out in simple terms better than the huge Panasonic manual which I got bored of reading and is ok if you are a pro photographer but not so good for the layman.
Agreeing with Roy Below. I'm only 5 minutes in, and I can tell you are presenting well and concisely. I'm going to need the full overview because, for god's sake, cannot even get the flash to work. Reading the manual...I'd just as soon put needles in my eyes. I'm only 5 minutes in, but I'll finish with the hope of taking a flash hi-res photo after the tutorial.
This camera does great video but doesn’t have a tilting screen which makes it a little more difficult to vlog. If your looking for an inexpensive vlogging camera option, I would look into the Panasonic ZS80.
@@Shutterbug101 You're really paying for the tilting screen with the ZS80 - costs as much or more than the ZS100, but only has a 1/2.3 sensor. I just picked up the ZS100 since there are incentives now - bundle deals and the free 3-year extended warranty. OUTSTANDING VIDEO - thanks!
Great explanation of camera functions. Had a hard time keeping up with you. Also, the background music was very distracting for me and wished I could have turned it off. Thank YOU.
Thanks so much for your work on this Heather. I know it has been a while but I just bought a ZS100 and have a question. Near the 19:10 on your video, we see the square or square corners, and they become yellow at one point. You can move your square around. Might you be able to explain what this is and whether you can keep the square in the center of the camera? I know the size of the square can be changed and on my camera I see Disp Reset on the bottom left.
This is an excellent video and I wish that the information which Panasonic provides was even half as good. Thank you. I have a problem, however, which you rather skated over. This is getting to HDR. On my camera in the Camera Settings window it shows under Post Focus the bars for iHandheld Night Shot, iHDR and HDR as grey; when I try to open any of these the display immediately jumps to Time Lapse Shot. What I am doing wrong?
Thank you for your excellent re-introduction to my ZS 100 which I've owned for 4-5 years. Just returned from a trip to Cuba and discovered I can't upload my digital pics from the ZS-100 to my desktop. It's a mystery. Could you possibly help me with a guide, or a reference to a guide, I can download and follow. I need to re-install the software apparently but I don't know where to find it. Many thanks for your "walkthrough". Charles
In manual mode, you are still limited to settings, but to change A or S, you can do it by touch screen or by the wheel on top and around the directional pad.
Amazing video! Super helpful. Thanks What would you recommend the settings for filming a concert in a small club with very fast moving lights? Also you mentioned. Having the ability to change the settings on the microphone. I didn’t see where and how to access that. I would be trying to set the microphone to a very low setting as to not overload and distort the audio. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Thank you! For filming a concert, I would use frame rate 60p if there are fast moving lights and avoid the zoom to take advantage of a wide aperture for more light intake. As for the mic, you have to be in your video mode on the dial, go to the video tab in the menu and scroll down to see Mic Level display (turn it on) and Mic Level Adjust to avoid those peaking areas.
Great Video---helped me very much. Will watch again :) I have a question: is there a way to add the date to the picture/JPG filename automatically? I like to show my travel pictures in an electronic picture frame chronologically.
Just watched your video - very helpful but my zs100 (bought in11/22) does not have a RAW setting. AmI missing something or are you using an zs 200 for demo purposes? Thx
Hi there! I was using the ZS100, but maybe if you reset your settings, it may become an option? Should be under the first tab in the menu to select RAW.
Thank you for a thorough review. Question I am wanting to photograph my 8 x 10 in paintings for online gallery What settings would you use for the above camera.
Hello! Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you! For this camera, you are very limited in low light situations. So in the case of video at night, you may just need to manually enter in more lighting. Here is a video showing how your sensor size can be the culprit of that: ruclips.net/video/kdnWb0pHF5c/видео.htmlsi=GzMTYQtASA9ZdvJI
Hey there, if I need a camera for work. All I need is a point and shoot. I need to take pictures rather fast between one pic and another. And I need it to be ok taking pictures in dark places like inside the kitchen cabinets when there’s no power in the house. Would this camera do?
Hi, my Tz100 wich looks the same always makes stupid moving photos but I want still "normal" photos that I can print. I cannot get away from video unless I chose panarama. Do you know the fix for this as I am about to throw this camera out of the window? Thank you.
If the card is brand new out of the package, it should be okay. But if the card was previously used in a different model, formatting would be ideal as long as you do not want the photos on the card any longer or you have made sure to back them up. You will go into the Menu > wrench tab > down the pages until you see format.
Really great review.Thank you. After unboxing and going through the menu settings along with your video, I have noticed the sensor has heated up significantly!! Should I be worried?
Very interesting, you definitely shouldn't be having an overheating issue by just going through the settings. Where did you purchase your camera? You may want to ask them about it, and see if it needs to be replaced.
Hello.. does the zs100 have a minimum shutter speed setting or something similar to it? How can I have a high shutter speed while keeping my ISO as low as possible... is that possible?
Great Question! The minimum shutter speed can go as low as 30 seconds long. As for a high speed setting while keeping the ISO low, you will need as much light as you can in the area you are photographing. The less light there is, the higher your ISO will need to be to keep the speed high.
Hi I have this camera, I’ve hooked it up to the computer using a capture card and then onto OBS to record. I’ve checked the Panasonic website and it says it has a clean hdmi output. But when I have it on the computer it displays the icons on the right of the screen. Is there a setting to remove this and have a clean image on obs? Great video helped me a lot . Thanks.
Hi Heather, thanks a lot for this video, it helped me a lot learning to understand my new TZ100. Do you have any idea why my camera does not have the One color mode like you showed in your video ?
I stumbled into a display where the back screen told me the focus range based on current settings such as 3 feet to infinity as an example but I have yet to find it again. Are you familiar with that and can you tell me how to get it back? That is handy for walk around street photos but I can't find it now.
I didn’t watch the whole video since I haven’t bought the camera yet. Just wondering if you had to Choose only 1 to keep (100 or 200) which would you keep? I’m having a hard time deciding which to get! I wish they could Have kept the 2.8 with the 200 because I like the idea of the longer zoom and the better grip.
THANK YOU! I just bought this camera last week (March 2024) and moved from a Canon to a Panasonic and didn't want to go thru the huge book that came with this camera.
I wish there were videos like yours for all cameras, it would make life much easier, thank you.

This is amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this, incredibly valuable!
Thank you so much, this video helped me way more than the people in the store where I bought my camera!!!
This video was helpful! I got this camera for Christmas and am new to photography! Thank you for making it!
What an excellent, unpretentious, clear walk through.
Thank you so much. Best wishes from the UK. ✊
great vid - will need to watch several times for everything to sink in!!
Glad I found this video, now I understand the workings of my camera and can use it properly. Thank you 😀
I just got this camera and your video convinced me to keep it. I know it’s a great camera but it appeared difficult. Not with your explanation. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this much needed video. I have this camera coming in tomorrow, this is a big help. Great timing.

This is a wonderful review of the ZS100! I will be returning to it often...
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! I'm really nervous about getting started and you helped me ease the anxiety a bit with your super sweet and and simple overview. Thank you!!!

My camera just arrived without a manual so this is fantastic!!! Thank you!
Thanks for this fabulous video that help tremendously with this point and shoot!!!!
Excellent Video!! Thank you for showing the Reset mode. It's exactly what I needed.
Awesome walk through of all the features and menu. Thanks
Excellent, really clear, thorough and practical. Thank you.
thank you so much! I've had this camera for a while and needed some help with it. This was perfect!
Excellent and very informative video! Thank you. Now I can make better use of my Panasonic camera.
lt has a viewfinder, manual mode for long exposure night photography, good zoom range, shoots RAW, and it's small. This may be the one for me. Thanks for the video.
It shoots raw?! That's highly beneficial to other point and shoots
Thanks for this video! I have the printed manual and a book I bought, but your video has made it much easier!
Just ordered this camera and was glad to find this video.
Are you going to use it for vlogging purpose?? I’m thinking for vlogging
Just wanted a good pocketable camera for travel that was better than a phone camera.
The one-inch sensor is one of the features that makes the ZS100 worth the price, IMO. It is a tough choice, because the ability to see yourself while vlogging is critical. I just picked up the ZS100 since there are incentives now - bundle deals and the free 3-year extended warranty. OUTSTANDING VIDEO - thanks!
Terrific overview. Thank you. I will attempt to find your video instructions for connecting to wifi, blue tooth, smartphone or pc
Excellent video! Learned a lot about my camera.
Thanks so much for your help
.transferes pics to.my tablet this morning..so easy. Pansdonic should sign you up to write the manual..Happy mew year 😄😄
Thanks for the Video. This was really helpful compared to the Instruction manual.
This is just quality content. Thanks
Thanks for the walk through. Great video!!
I just got a zs100. This is really helpful!
Thanks so much Heather...that was perfect! 👍
Great video. Well done ! Respect
Added back in my cart, interesting little camera
very helpful but I still need to practice. lots of menues!
Great explanation of camera functions. Had a hard time keeping up with you. Also, the background music was very distracting for me and wished I could have turned it off. Thank YOU.
I have definitely changed music option and have drastically turned it down in new videos, learning as I go!
Thank you so much for this wonderful review :)
Thanks so much for your work on this Heather. I know it has been a while but I just bought a ZS100 and have a question. Near the 19:10 on your video, we see the square or square corners, and they become yellow at one point. You can move your square around.
Nice walkthrough. Is there a way to connect a lavalier to this camera for better audio?
Hello.. does the zs100 have a minimum shutter speed setting or something similar to it?
Thanks.
How does this compare to the canon Elph 360?
Hi Heather, thanks a lot for this video, it helped me a lot learning to understand my new TZ100. Do you have any idea why my camera does not have the One color mode like you showed in your video ?
Figured it out! The one color mode isn't available when the camera is in 4k photo mode. :)
I just bought this to record video. How do I do that? I press record and it stops after 4 seconds
I stumbled into a display where the back screen told me the focus range based on current settings such as 3 feet to infinity as an example but I have yet to find it again. Are you familiar with that and can you tell me how to get it back? That is handy for walk around street photos but I can't find it now.
How good would it be in nighttime photography like walking the streets, alley ways and so on great video lots of information ❤
I didn’t watch the whole video since I haven’t bought the camera yet. Just wondering if you had to
Choose only 1 to keep (100 or 200) which would you keep? I’m having a hard time deciding which to get! I wish they could
Have kept the 2.8 with the 200 because I like the idea of the longer zoom and the better grip.
