Breathtaking. Such an idiosyncratic, unique voice. The level of risk in his playing is other level...comping, voicings, use of open strings...unreal. Great flow on his lines too, so unpredictable. Total intimacy with the instrument...flawless
..wow, Kurt is out of control, he has set the bar so high for other players, pushing us to work harder towards our goals...my teacher before Berklee back in high school, Jack Hotop, was always pushing his students too, practice every day, try to listen to the masters, from Segovia to Montgomery, Martino and Pass, and he knew about Clapton and Hendrix too mind you..and do it seriously..I wish he could have heard this performance by Kurt, I think he would have really enjoyed it..this is the kind of kick in this ass to get you thinking and working harder..monumental must listening..New York September 10, 2020..
This is a new level....Kurt plays his language at such a high level of originality. always...fresh and creative. Really stunning AND soulful. Thank you Kurt
Absolutely spectacular. I can't say enough good things about Kurt. Just found him last night and I'm absolutely blown away. I didn't know there was more than one Allan Holdsworth!!
I Think His way of playing at the end is a kind of inspiration of Rene Thomas's version ruclips.net/video/_YxI4-mpYpc/видео.html&ab_channel=Ren%C3%A9Thomas-Topic
Cada vez que escucho a Rosenwinkel me pregunto de dónde viene ese sonido peculiarísimo, precioso, incomparable. Del trabajo, del genio, de la persistencia.
He uses a pog pedal to shave off the attack and a compressor after to shorten the delay time from his picking to the sound. There are some videos of him describing it
Thanks, guys! I’m usually pretty good at analyzing effects but that is super subtle. I thought it was more technique. Like a really accurate simultaneous pick/hammer on.
This version, and the one here by Pasquale Grasso are very different. But both are mind-blowing. Not to mention beautiful versions Monk would have loved.
Because being musical is not about how many odd voicings and notes you can play. He ruins the song here. I have heard him play great stuff before - but this is awful.
@@jazzapv Sorry, I was thinking of another Paul Motion Album, Monk in Motion. I had forgotten he was in the Electric Bebop Band with Wolfgang Muthspiel.Thank you for pointing out my error.

it sounds like engaged octaver plus some sort of attack suppressor like SG-1 or some sort. Very special tone but it is not clean guitar tone there is some fx in it.
@gilibertopaparauchas5959 his boss oc-2 (or oc-3, i forget which one) has a threshold setting internally that you can change to only turn the octave on below a certain pitch. pretty fun
Kurt's version of Round Midnight is covering a lot of material - chord melody, voice leading, counterpoint, improvisation, call and response etc. Yeap, you could say, it is an solo guitar performance + chord melody. You got it right.
Books by jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Jimmy Wyble - I suggest getting books by Martin Taylor and finding a teacher in a location where you live. I hope it helps.@@freshlumpia8202
Nah it's an SG200. The 2000 is much fancier looking with a carved top, split inlays & gold hardware. SG200 can still be obtained for fairly modest money.

Yes you got it you're so right 👍
Kurt Rosenwinkel is one of those guitarists that I could just sit and watch do this all day long.
The man has got such a UNIQUE sound, ALIENS can identify it from outer space
Rick Beato plays with a similar tone imo for his scale videos
If we're ever being invaded by those outer space beings, we better find Mr. Rosenwinkel lmao

When one can ally technical ability with soulful, creative and unique ideas. Very few musicians strike that elusive balance.

Yeah Kurt. One of the alltime best you are my friend. Second gen post Metheny genius. Great
Incredible articulation at that tempo, Ben. Bravo!
5* superb. He would make Monk proud.
mamma mia !!!!! bravissimo

I only see two hands. This guy probably has multiple brains jamming together
I've heard him do this with chorus effect on the guitar. I have to say I prefer this. What style, and technique. Great performance, and arrangement.
that bossa mood switch before the end

So masterful but still soaked in emotion Kurt!
Hi Kurt! Excellent job. Can’t wait to see you in March 2024 in Morristown, NJ with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
that was amazing - creativity just out of this world.
Super Kurt !! Nei primi 10 ti metto…☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Outstanding! A Virtuoso!
Astonishing, such a great tone and touch, it's amazing! Thank you Kurt
Играет в кайф, и звучит в кайф.....редкость....просто замечательно......

Great tone, great language, great musician. Have I already told you that he is great?
Such amazing rendition. Cheers from Brazil.

Very nice Kurt.
Excellent Kurt as usual !

I'd say he's the best of the modern players
you obviously have not seen Justin Bieber play guitar
He's really good! Also check out Pasquale Grasso
Antoine Boyer
Julian Lage
Killin....and gorgeous tone....
Really digging the new sound with the swells(?)...
Magnifique, la classe en solo. Bravo.
yeah like the train!
Fantastic player that is!
THEEEEEE BEST!!!!
I’ve never heard an attack like that. Sounds like he’s picking with a feather.
It comes from his octave pedal
He uses a pog pedal to shave off the attack and a compressor after to shorten the delay time from his picking to the sound. There are some videos of him describing it

Kurt talks about his POG here - ruclips.net/video/UXDVQcTkoFw/видео.html
I wish I knew his guitar tech - the instrument is set up to a tee...all the notes ring loud and clear and evenly.
This version, and the one here by Pasquale Grasso are very different. But both are mind-blowing. Not to mention beautiful versions Monk would have loved.
fantastic musician. thanx
a great guitar player !!

Great performance thx, where might find the transcript if any
Sounds great!
KURT!!!!!!
Amazing, I think I heard him playing this (very similar take) on a Paul Motian album.
Attila Vaczi that was Bill Frisell
No, it wasn't. Check the print on the cover. There were two guitarists in that album and the other one wasn't Bill Frisell.

Very inspiring ! 👌
Amazing
I would call this a 'varnished' tone.
nice and refreshing!
I was a little tired of listening jazz guitar and then Kurt Rosenwinkel...
Beasting it!
Unbelievable. Ended sort of John Barry-esque.

Woah.
Its beautiful and just sooo magical as always....but what interests me now is what kind of tattoo he's got there xD
Very enjoyable! I do not recognize the particular guitar. Nice jazz tone, but a slim body - nice whatever it is.
Its a Yamaha SG 2000
Sorry a SG 200

My god his hands were moving so fast while the narrator was talking…wow
👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful. The bass notes sound like octaved, could it be?
no
I hear it too
the 6th string is definitively octaved, wonder how he does it
@gilibertopaparauchas5959 his boss oc-2 (or oc-3, i forget which one) has a threshold setting internally that you can change to only turn the octave on below a certain pitch. pretty fun
I'm going to burn all my guitars after watching this.
He gets a real thick full sound for a little solid body like that.
shortscale, HH, touch, settings
Uow!!!
Great playing, as always, but I can’t get over how much he uses his left thumb! Very unusual
I used to be able to do that before all the years of drug abuse took my ability. Hendrix did that as well.
What do you call this type of playing? Is it chord melody? Anybody tell me pls..
Kurt's version of Round Midnight is covering a lot of material - chord melody, voice leading, counterpoint, improvisation, call and response etc. Yeap, you could say, it is an solo guitar performance + chord melody. You got it right.

Kurt is a great player. I prefer ballads of this type to be in time and done like a singer would sing them. This version was too choppy for me.
Perfection. And millions of kids waste their views and inspiration on "Buckethead"...
