Yes, I agree. The voice command feature works very well on the Voyager. It's a really handy feature when your hands are full and you can't touch the buttons. Amazing how it recognizes what you say.
Third time trying to list this comment. Press the clear button at the bottom. The lady's voice says "please say a command" and you say, for example, "call" and she says "call, please state the name or number". When you do, it calls the person or place for you. There are several choices of commands to choose from on the list. Very handy when you're driving and don't want to take your eyes off the road (which we shouldn't!). :) Pressing and holding the clear button activates the voice recorder.
dude yah. i have verizon and while it's good most of the time, they told me they wouldn't give me a new phone because my screen crack was damage and warranty wouldn't cover it. my screen crack literally takes over the whole inside screen of my envy and they basically told me to deal with it. thanks guys love you lots.
I wouldn't call it an iPhone competitor, but I love it. Upgraded from the original V to the voyager and it is awesome. Bought the env2 last week and exchanged it the next day for the voyager- sweet phone.
the keys on the left side of the QWERTY keyboard that are gray are like that to show that they are designated gaming controls when you are playing games on the phone
A couple of cool things you can do with the Voyager is that you can record a sound of your choice, send it to yourself and turn it into a ringtone or alert. You can also have a voice read your email or text aloud. It even reads cuss words and emoticons!
No, it's got the speakers on the inside so it becomes a speakerphone. I've never gotten a call while it's open but I think you can just shut it closed and touch the screen to answer it the usual way if you get a call.
If you mean "stand by" as in, "locked", then you just slide down the lock button on the side. It also locks itself if you had the flip open and then close it or if you let it sit for a few seconds and the screen goes dark. You have to touch the little animated lock icon to unlock it again.
CDMA technology, while slower, ensures a firm "handshake" between the phone and the relay tower before the phone "commits" its signal to that tower. Reseult -I have never lost a call on Sprint or Verizon. Further, I have had good signal strength in the DC Metro, the subways in NY, on the Acela, on serveral East Coast beaches and in Jamaica. When I had AT&T I had patchy service in Philadelphia.
I got one on the 24th, and so far, have been impressed with the overall performance and durability of the phone. Although the exterior touch screen-texting is not as good as it could be, the other features on the phone make up for it.
Yes, it is the best phone I've ever had! It's a fun phone, especially the tv. The touch screen is fine. It's a little different than the iphone since it works off of pressure. Once you get the feel of how it works, you'll have no problem.
I just purchased a voyager on wednesday and I am taking it back tomorrow for a Blackberry. The promotion of the vCast, Wifi and GPS is a crock since they are 3 extra charges. If you are upgrading your phone after 2 years vCast is an additional $15 a month, GPS is $9.99 a month and the Wifi Sync is $20 a month. All in all you're better off getting a black berry that includes all of those features for one fee of $25 a month.
I bought the voyager on Wed. Nov. 21 and I love it! you dont need the 40 dollar additional data package. there are many options to choose from that are of course OPTIONAL! I suggest getting Vcast, for 15 dollars a month you can get unlimited internet access. I love it and you all will too. Im a mac person, but the iphone costs more and uses Wi-fi. all in all get a voyager
dude i got this phone man its the best ever. be sure to get the protective covering for the screen tho it comes in handy. the phone is amazing for internet use along with texting and the calling is perfect. no dropped calls ever. i reccommend this phone 10/10.
Yes you can text with the keyboard. That's one of the best features about it and what the keyboard is there for. It's alot easier to text with that than the t9 thing. Plus all the symbols are there so you don't have to keep going to a different screen.
wo questions: 1. Can you go on youtube and watch videos on the Voyager? 2. Can you turn off the feature that vibrates the phone when you touch the screen?
The phone comes with headphones that allow you to listen to music; though you run into a minor inconvenience if you ever lose or break said headphones. The screen is calibrated to your touch and texting is unbelivably easy, much moreso than on the iPhone. Still, not as capable a phone as many smart phones and the touch screen may mislead people to believe so.
The web brower or internet is included w/ the phone. What you would pay for is mobile tv, navigation, text plans, and any other vcast music, vids, or ringtones.
I purchased it at a Circuit City and got it for $350 and I'm going to get $50 back from a rebate. I got a family plan (3 phones) premium package that includes everything (text, TV, data, web, etc.) for $110/month. I don't yet have the TV thing because they won't have it where I live until the end of December so all I've been able to watch is the generic programs that are there and they look great. The screen is very clear too.
I hear people compare it to the iPhone. I don't have any idea if it does compare but I can tell you that it is a fun phone to have. You can do just about everything with it and its easy to use.
thanks for the review. it looks like they basically transplanted the architecture of the enV and added touch-screen functionality to it. It also seems like people with big thumbs could potentially have problems hitting the exact day that they want out of the calendar. also curious if they finally upgraded the IM application from its current clunky version.
It would be difficult for it to unlock itself. Something would have to push on one of the buttons on the bottom to activate the screen and then hit the little unlock button on the screen itself for it to do that. I carry mine in my pocket all the time and have never had a problem. If you have it in a backpack, you should keep it in a case or something anyway so as not to scratch it up. I keep mine in an ipod sock (of all things!) to protect it when it's going to get bumped around.
The Voyager is essentially an en-V with a touch screen. Music and video is purchased through verizon and its proprietary os is likely not to have many exciting applications to add.
The card reader is easier if you're using multiple computers or if you need to get info from someone else's computer. It saves you from having to keep intalling the sync software everytime you want to put something on the card. Plus I can view and edit MS Office files and various other file types on my phone or download movies (not Vcast...actual movies). Voyager can only recognize music files so maybe the reader wouldn't appeal to you.
I had a Razr and it's actually wider and longer (when opened) than Voyager. It's only 1/8 inch thicker than the Razr too. The iphone's wider and longer than Voyager but it is thinner.
Almost Deadlyboner You cant get turn by turn directions using the iPhone. The iPhone "gps" is really just a map of your location with mapquest directions. It triangulates your position with cell phone towers and wifi signals if there available. Turn by turn directions are a big plus for Voyager if your a road warrior. Some other things that the iPhone does have, flash enabled web browser. Which almost all websites have flash enabled. Not sure if Voyager can handle javascript yet tho...
Let me add however that I was considering the iPhone before I decided to stay with Verizon. I weighed the iPhone and Verizon as a service and decided to stay with Verizon because I like the service. The iPhone however is BY FAR a superior device to the Voyager due not alone to the functionality of the operating system.
The music player is GREAT. I have a 1GB card in and it holds tons. I plan to get the 8GB one (+ it comes with 8GB inside it) so I can store more video and such. The Vcast thing where you buy music over the air is fantastic. Also, the software that comes with it to add music via your computer is super easy to use. Easier than other mp3 player stuff I've used before.
I'm sure one will come out...eventually, but not anytime soon. The Voyager is made in such a way that you only need to update the firmware every now and then to make the device better. A VX11000 is a long time in the making. The only way one would be out any time soon is if they started planning it right after the first Voyager was released. They didn't.
Candygobbler, I had the same problem that you are, and the only place that I could find a black voyager was on Ebay. It was also a TON cheaper than buying it from a store or verizon website! Hope this helps.

I just bought a new verizon phone in sept. I was out of contract since Febuary. Answer= You will be able to get the lowest price on any of the phones at the verizon store -ie the price a brand new customer pays. You will of course be submitting to a new 2-year contract that will be binding after 30 days from the purchase date.
I do apologize for my assumption and rather impudent reply. I was in the habit of replying to the ignorant iPhone worshipers. But to better support my argument, the touch screen sensitivity issue is definitely there but the voyager does hold some noteable features: the navigation system, qwerty keypad, full internet browser, 3G network, wireless music and video streaming, mobile TV etc.. Maybe to some people it isn't worth the full $300, but you can't argue that it is a complete waste of money.

the gray one is the voyager titanium its the same thing but they updated the software to fix some of its bugs. i just ordered the voyager titanium last night after i dropped my chocolate in the snow.
I Just ordered the voyager, I just messed around with it a little bit in the store and knew I wanted it, I just got a 1 gig sd card i might get a 2 or 4 later but the 8 gig is $130, the voyager is great for people with verizon, we simply have the best service and now a great phone, att service sucks around here
actually, you can scroll like on the iphone, just not on the main menu. and the touchscreen may have slight sensitivity issues but it has a nice feel to it.
My god! I've never been big on cell phones. I was always satisfied with my cheap phone cause it met my basic needs. I got this great voyager for christmas and my goodness that phone is crazy! I can't believe how advanced it is! It's like being teleported into the future! I love it! Iphone, Voyager their both sweet ass phones! Plus I think Voyagers cooler! A better name and it's not like just an ipod that's a phone! The voyager is a phone with music!
i looooove this phoone. i wanted a cool fone with some features but not a smartphone with a data plan cuz i didnt want to pay for more. and this phone was the perfect thing. love the voyager. and LPGthatguy said it rite, it will work good if you treat it like a phone.
The battery that came with it doesn't last that long. The rep who sold it to me said it was a bit short and he recommended the extended one. The thing is I haven't stopped playing with it all weekend so I don't really know what to expect. I use it and the web browser for 2,3,4 hours at a time so I guess its not terrible. One good thing is that when you plug in the USB for data, it also charges the battery.
actually the iphone is operated by edge, i get internet anywhere i go, the only thing that needs wifi is the itunes music store. and the web apps are actually very useful
I mostly use it in it's vertical position. I don't have any problems. Although, the learning curve is fairly steep on it, once you learn to use it, I've found that it's just as fast as any other QWERTY keyboard on a cellphone.
I went to Verizon and asked about the Dare. The guy said there isn't much info about it yet but he didn't think it would have tv or other features. I have the Voyager and he said that it has every service Verizon offers. I like the way the Dare looks more than the Voyager but if it doesn't have equal or better features, I'm sticking with Voyager. I'm still going to check out the Dare when it comes out. Haven't heard of any upgrade to Voyager though.
If you want speed, go Verizon. If you're talking about overall browsing experience, you might want to go with the iPhone. The multi-touch and orientation sensing functions make web browsing much easier than on standard phones. I, personally, hate having to view sites in their "mobile" form so I avoid phones like the Voyager with Mobile Web 2.0. My phone has Picsel Browser, which allows me to view sites the way I would see them on a desktop computer.
I love the voyager! my friend got one the first few days it came out. Not even all that it can do is showed in most videos. The only complaint i have about it is that its only through verizon. All of verizon's messaging is way more expensive than most other service providers.

There was a upgraded verison. It is called the Env Touch. 3.2 MegaPixels and I think 3G

get the env touch, if the dare screen breaks, your screwed, and its easier texting if your a bigger texter for the env touch

accually i just saw a bunch of them for sale today so they still do make them.

Go for the gray. Its supposedly lighter and it has a better user interface even though you can get the same ui on the black.

they do sell the black one but only in canada in u.s its titanium
