  • #TheBigStory | EDCOM II Executive Director Dr. Karol Mark Yee revealed that 64% of high school teachers did not major in the subjects they are currently teaching.
He also believes that to address learning gaps, the country should focus on empowering teachers, providing sufficient textbooks, and improving coordination within the education system.

I'm a public school teacher. Until now, wala pa kaming matatag book. I bought a book from shoppee with my own expenses.
I crafted my own learning materials which is suited to the level of my students.

"earning units" ang ibig sabihin ng guest. a lot of teachers in public school did not actually finish education course but only got 18 education units. but these teachers took the LET and they passed so they are qualified to teach.

I knw an English teacher who was my classmate nung High School sa N.Samar. Yes, English teacher siya but sadly di siya ganun ka fluent in English, minsan mali pa English niya. And now may License na siya at may item na. Na meet namin uli siya nung reunion and still ganun parin siya. Can't imagine enrolling my child na siya ang teacher. Idk man! Maybe there's something wrong sa system natin. 🤷

What do you mean teachers lack training? I mean lets face the fact that the problem here is the SYSTEM, THE BABY SYSTEM OF THE STUDENTS tinatakot nyu teachers sa Teacher Factor, the Skul reports na never ending na ngayun nga sa matatag curriculum mas lalo pahirapan dahil andaming sections halos 1 month pabalik balik yung sakit, mawalan pa ng boses, exhausting pa, tapos andami pang reports, may mga sideline pa na trainings ewan koba nakakalito ang role ng teachers.

in barangay level, the day care center under DSWD is a very good starting point... if Bachelor of Science in Social Work graduates will do the job, they must have an early/childhood education units as an additional units if they wish to do the job as day care center teacher/workers... that is the most promising solution for early childhood education...

Issues like these really make me want to practice what I studied, but I won't be making enough money to achieve a comfortable life / achieve dreams my parents burdened me with. When I had my first teaching in private school as a Guidance Counselor, I was forced to also teach Music and Grammar. Though my background is in Psychology but I have a knowledge about those things but not enough to really fully grasp the subjects given to me since it’s not my field. The problem here is that the Philippines or shall we say the government should allocate more budget to hire teachers and assigned them in their own fields. In short, there is a scarcity of the budgets allocated for each school to cater the needs of the teachers and students.

I am a psych graduate who want to further pursue for MAGC so I could take for RGC exam. Sad but the career progression for RGC in the Philippines is leaning towards negative side. You need to have a Masters to take the exam but your entry salary is only SG 11. I do believe that legislating a better career progression for RPm, RGC, RPsy and fast tracking it into law would, in one way or another, solve these cases of bullying in PH, which is so detrimental for studentry's mental and over-all well-being, and I have had experience it first hand on the field how worst it is.

I don't get why you dont see ABSENTEEISM as the problem.
There are lots and lots of students you are lazy and often do not go to school just to play outside or sleep late because of gadgets. Worse, the parents or guardians fail to discipline those students.
No matter how good the literary and math programs that you create, WHEN the STUDENTS are not attending school then those programs are just waste.
We need a STRICT attendance policy, to instill discipline to these students. 25 absences that are not medical in nature should be dropped automatically.
Puro tayo magbe-BABY sa mga bata, worse you deny MASS PROMOTION but the principal and higher-ups do not want teachers to fail students.

I'm the dorp coordinator of our school and I agree with you completely..attendance and active participation of students are really challenging..Deped should clarify it's no learner left behind policy . These students do not really care about their personal accountability and responsibility towards learning..even the best teacher cannot teach a student if the student is always absent and refuse to learn..gadget is really one of the culprits but it's not the sole factor..

Even during the start of the pandemic when modules were said to be their primary reference. Modules for 1st and 2nd were received during the 3rd quarter or even during the 4th quarter. They procure references late. This makes the teachers to produce (sometimes using their own money) alternative resources to be distributed to learners.
They also need to remove spiral progression. Some of my collegues in Science were Biology major. But because of this spiral progression, they are forced to teach Physics (which most of them are having a hard time).

    • @charlesmanapat5418
      @charlesmanapat5418 24 дня назад +2

Because there is a misplacement of teachers who teach subjects. For example, a Filipino major applicant who finally gets hired by DepEd will be asked "is it okay if you will teach Math for the meantime?" So instead of losing his prized item in DepEd, he will have no other choice but to accept teaching Math despite his different major.
      And that's a complete misalignment.

Very Insightful... But it makes one to think, if we already know this much about the problems of our education system, then bakit ganoon pa den kalala ang problema sa edukasyon? Is it a matter of leadership? Funding? Inefficient Bureaucracy? Corruption? Or all of the above and more? If education is such an important aspect of nation-building then why is it not treated as such? Is it simply a good rhetoric to state in political campaigns? then just leave it to some folks that are either incompetent or lack sufficient political backing to somehow manage this gargantuan problem??
It really does baffle the mind how something so universally regarded as an urgent important issue is swept aside like it's not THAT big of a problem. This is the future of the Philippines and her people, swept under a rug just like that...
