I watched this video essay multiple times. I didn't realize so much of the Japanese music I've loved and played out (as a no name DJ in Los Angeles, CA) was touched by this incredible creative man. Thank you so much for making this video essay. I came here from one of your reddit posts about a month or two ago.
I've been a fan of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and CAPSULE for so long. HERO is one of my favorite CAPSULE tracks and CAPS LOCK is an incredible album that I listen to at least once or twice a year as a throwback.
You've really exposed me to some interviews and media of this amazing musician that really touched me. You quoted him saying:
"Giving up on the things you want to create means you've lost"
Taking out the double negative, I kinda skewed this quote in my head to say, "Creating the things you want to create means you've won." I stumbled upon this video at just the perfect time in my life just a few months ago, and I'm glad you turned this essay you wrote into a video essay and posted it on the internet. For the last 2 months, I've been finally creating the music I've wanted to create since I was in college getting my degree in Music. I didn't realize this guy was silently and passively cheering me on with all of his great music.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this video. I'll be sharing it with my friends, and I'm excited to make my live music project a reality. 1.1K views for this video is not enough for how well produced, thought out, and delivered it is.
I am lucky enough to be his fan from 2005...it's like everything he touches turns into gold.
Funny thing is...people think him collaborating with western artists is something wow...not really to be honest. He is way more talented than most of them.tbf.
I almost cried watching this, feeling conmoved about his big and constant pursue for creativeness.

This whole video got me geeked tf out the whole time considering I’ve never met A LIVING SOUL who listens to MEG and when I heard sound of silence playing at the end of the video I damn near cried because that song was a staple of my childhood!!! I was always the weird ass kid listening to this stuff back in the day and to see a vide essay about the bops I’ve loved back to back is just amazing. I feel represented asf right now 😭
I’ve been obsessed with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu since 2013, she’s really influenced my music taste for years, she was my intro to Yasutaka Nakata’s music. My absolute FAVS are Sugarless Girl, Sound of Silence and Control!! Those get me going in the gym let me tell you 😭
I can go on and on about how this man’s music sums up every song I love but was too embarrassed to put on the aux chord because no one would get it. LOL
Also if you read this comment this far I’d check out Get out of My way by Kylie Minogue, she’s popular in the west but I’ didn’t know that considering I only found her song because Yasutaka produced it. He did a remix also of it and LET ME TELL YOU ITS SO GOOD. Anyways great video.

Sugarless Girl and Sound of Silence are some of my favs too, and so good to get your energy going! Also MEG's Secret Adventure HAD to make it into the video, that song stays in my head. I'm so pumped you enjoyed the video, my music taste was influenced hard by all of Nakata's work too! It's been so cool seeing all us Yasutaka Nakata fans come out lol! Take control of that aux chord and put on Control! LOL I just listened to the remix of Get Outta My Way you suggested, and it is for sure in the rotation now! Have you checked out COLTEMONIKHA? Both of those albums are soooo good, and I would definitely suggest them!

His use of melody, harmony and unique chord progressions are simply unmatched.
What an incredible music maker this man is! I had no idea he was composing for so many people. The last time I looked (years ago) all he did was Capsule, KPP, and my favorite: Perfume.
