You can play RuneScape classic on OpenRSC btw :) Single-player versions of classic exist too. P.S. Love your videos! Watch them everyday after I get home from work
2:20 Harvest moon (1996) is one of the first games that popularized literal farming in video games, and it would lead to people just grinding it for years as a form of relaxation. I'm sure that other more simple but similar games existed before that, but harvest moon is one of the first "big" skiller games. And it could be one of the reasons why we call "skill grinds" as farming. But the term of farming in video games is actually even older than that and was used indifferently with term "boosting" in any game that had highscore. People would basically "plan a seed" for really big highscores by intentionally avoiding finishing levels in arcade games back in 80's and even in 70's, they would try to get every bonus in each level so that they would maximize their points. This was either called "point boosting" or "point farming"
I started playing Runescape in 2005 because my son had been playing it for a couple years and wanted me to play with him. I quit when I purchased WoW and played it for a few months in same year. I quit Runescape because people were hacking and I lost a lot due to my account falling to one. It was just too much work to have it all stolen. The security in that game was just horrible and not worth the pain to me. Was happy to have earned a few 99 capes.
The factor meals are pretty clutch. If you are single or live with just one other person, its great. I wouldn't recommend it for a family though. Ive saved so much on groceries too. Most of the meals range taste wise from mid to delicious. I've had some Im not thrilled with, but never any that were straight up gross. Ive got tons of promo codes if anyone wants to try it too lol.
RS3 completely reworked Mining and Smithing skills a few years back that really addressed the awful rewards. No longer is the reward for 99 the ability to make a level 40 platebody but the actual level 90 strongest melee armor in the game.
I don't think I'd ever be autistic enough to get those levels in classic RuneScape 🤣 it's absolutely insane the hoops that people needed to hop through back then and I'm glad people did hop through them because now RuneScape has been refined enough to be so good.
Before I watch: I'd say our mindset in old runescape was peak gaming: explore, do stuff, find out what the game can do, have fun. The game itself, in hindsight, was barely adequate, more of a proof of concept than an actual game. However, a concept it did prove, and prove it hard.
The game was more than adequate. You can go play a 1 to 1 recreation of RSC if you Google it and it's more fun than 95% of games out there. The reason it works is because this type of game design doesn't actually require graphics at all, it's all about what's happening in your head.
OSRS skills are mostly useless outside of quest requirements and diaries. It's unfortunate but Jagex kinda made their choice once they let bosses drop supplies. I would love for Jagex to re-look at skills to make them useful somehow. I understand we rather kill shit than mine a rock or wood cut. But with things like giants foundry i can totally see jagex include supplies that aren't trade-able but the end item crafted is. You make it so you have to do kinda hard tasks with a high *insert skill here* just to obtain the supplies. Idk there is a lot they could do with skills especially smithing
This "problem" is so overblown. 95% of players haven't reached the point where skilling becomes "useless". Things that are useful in the early/mid game are not useless.
i miss the simpler days when people weren't so bent so effeminacy. simple items, simpler combat i feel so stuck on osrs bossing i keep going back top rs3 because i like it better
Dude i love these runescape history lessons. I’m just getting into it and i love the real lore. Everything about runescape feels alive.

I’m so happy my real life was traumatic enough to remember all the greats fighting for the first 99s. To me that era was more epic then pre eoc

I was obsessed with getting 99 firemaking when I first starting playing back in 07. Mainly because of the cape/ emote
old school runescape is still peak gaming
Aint no way you been bingeing Colonello too.. HAHA ...we are legit on the same path except I started a HC Iron Man.

It is wild that baseline smithing has not changed in 23 years... i would have thought atleast one dev would have tried updating it a bit.

Isn't it crazy that the old version of the game we play is actually older now than the old version its based off of? 😂
This Is Where Buying GF All Started 4:02
