Spades is the best partner-based, trick-taking, bidding, casual card game for 4 people. Scoring reference: www.pagat.com/... #CardsStrategy #CardsBidding #SpadesGame
This is a 3 bid tops, that KJ might not even ride if position eats it, 4 is if you get lucky and get cuts if spades doesn't get pulled, and does he not know that is a jack of hearts and not a dime. wow I cant believe he said 7 lol
Put your clubs in between your hearts and diamonds. It would be a rookie mistake to play a high heart thinking it was diamonds just because it was a red card (Tips for beginners). I definitely don't see 5 tricks. I would not bid on a queen or jack.
I see three books, and you're right about setting up your hand. There is no Jack of Diamonds. And, only three if I can pull the Ace of Hearts when I throw the Jack of HEARTS... to take the book with my King. ..if.
I'd bid 4 here since he has two clubs so a possible cut and two hearts with the king, so 2 possible tricks there and the ace of spades with 3 other spades, so two more possible tricks there. so I would say total 4
@@camerinj ... because he has a crap hand... I'd bid 2 just on the spades, his clubs are crap, his diamonds are crap, and his K of hearts is at high risk of not taking a trick.
Spades is a game of risk/reward management above anything else. Everything in Spades is situational. The most important factor in deciding what to bid is the score of the game, second is the bid pattern on the hand, and third is the cards in one's hand. The comment by the author of the video that he has never bid Nil indicates an extremely low level of experience with the game. Nil bids occur in almost every standard game played, and often more than one time. There are a few Spades instructional books available on the market, and one in particular will improve a player's game tremendously. My suggestion is to look at the various books and their ratings, and make a relatively small investment in your game that will result in you not only winning a much higher percentage of your games, but having a lot more fun as well. Regarding this specific hand, one could play it 1,000 times and never take 5 tricks. Regarding the factors mentioned above, this would normally be a 3 or even 2 bid hand. Four would be a real push. Control and flexibility is critical when playing a hand. In general, it is better to bid conservatively and play aggressively everything else being equal. However, if this likely is the last hand of the game, given the score one could bid anything from Nil (a bluff Nil in 3rd seat) to a crazy high bid in 4th seat if setting the opps is the only way to keep the game alive. There are very few absolutes in Spades other than technically forced bids on the last hand of a game. Happy Spading
Yes. Depending on the score, 3 would be a good bid. 4 would be possible if spades are run out. Mathematically, since you have the 13th spade, it would be possible to come back with your queen of diamonds after all the trumps are gone. Like I said, depends on the score, if anyone went nil, and level of partner's bidding/skill. If opponent has a nil bid, you could get 5 pretty easily with that hand. But overall, I probably bid 3 just to live to 'play another down'. If bags are an issue, throw your high diamonds under the higher diamonds as they come out...
Also, on the third round of a suit, it is best to only trump with 9 of spades or higher. That way, if your trump gets trumped, the opponent pays dearly to get it. This, in turn, will essentially move your remaining spades up in power. Remember, have fun all!
4 is still optimistic....position is everything. Say the player to your right is first to act and plays a low heart first card....thats possibly your king losing. Diamonds are dead pretty much. 2 is the call here. Commit to losing the hearts, and hopefully trump the heart of club and win another with the ace. 3 a possible call depending on table position and calls beforehand.
(K hearts, Cut a heart, Cut a club) 3 books. If you are playing with Jokers then that Ace of Spades might not survive. No Jokers then you have 4 books. Now if someone cuts Diamonds out the gate (b/c you have 5 diamonds) and they start playing all their spades then you will get set. I would call 3 if I didnt know my partner.
That is absolutely not a 5 bid. Nothing you said makes sense. Bid all spades 3 and up and bid all A K. Well do that math, that is 18 cards so you would have an 18 total bid for the table every game meaning both teams likely would set. The minute a table I'm sitting at bids 18 I get up and walk away because no one has any idea what they are doing. You have an easy 3 bid here, A of spades K of hearts and a cut on clubs. If you are really bold you could try a 4, maybe if you are bidding last and 4 would make the table bid 11.
Cool, so if I get this same exact hand in a game I can bid 5 and after that hand is over my partner won't say something along the lines of, "uh....I gotta go home and pet my dog, I'm outta here"?
depending on the score and the rules I play I would say an easy 3. One for the A, another for the K heart, and another for cutting clubs, or hearts later on. You might even get 4, or less likely 2 but would depend on the distro of course.
This video is a good example of the title not matching the video. There's great info here on partner bidding strategy but most of it is going over extraneous content.
This gentleman has apparently broken the first rule which is "don't get high on your own supply". There is no way you're getting 5 books with this hand. Also separate red and black cards.
He’s gonna renege putting those red suits together. Doesn’t matter though, he’s gonna get set bidding 7. But maybe he plays hearts are worth more than diamonds and clubs. WHAT?! I know. He’s almost 2 suites, so he thinks spades will play out early and his diamonds will then become “trumps”. That’s the only way he can get 7 out of this hand.
Spades is my fav. My boyfriend plays poker..I play Spades. I play classic spades though but the way people talk about it on RUclips..you would think in real life most play crazy spades. In my experience most play classic spades.
You never know, but since on your mythical hand you have 5 diamonds, there is a good chance that you will win no tricks with even the Queen since someone will be out of diamonds by the time your Queen would win a hand and they will trump your Queen.
Thanks for the analysis. To learn the nuances of the game, I'd like to play with some good players. I thought just having a Queen would be a shoe-in, but that's not the case as you described.
A void in a nontrump suit when supported by sufficient trump cards counts as a trick. Same for doubletons in a non-trump suit. No mention of bidding "nil" or "shooting the moon"(13 tricks). With your hand, a bid of 5 is okay, but not for the reasons you suggest.
If you need to watch this video on how to bid, don’t count a queen or a jack, even if you have a king and a jack, there’s just too many variables. But you can count 2 cards in a suite as one, and 1 as 2, and if your confident bet 3 in 0 a suite. But just be careful if just one person has lots of a single card and they have a trump card because they can make that suite a trump suite but letting you guys cut on whatever that’s when you need to spade check to drag out everyone’s high cards..
3 and a possible 4! A♤, K♡, 3♤ cutting (once your hearts a gone), 9♤ cutting (once your clubs are gone). A more advanced player may can pull 5! I would bid 4.. and I would make it, lol!
Generally I would bid 3. I would bid 4 this hand if I trust my partner and there is no nil to break or cover. If there is a nil then 3 maybe consider 2. I'm curious what skills you think ensure a bid of 5. I think 5 is more luck than skill or you were breaking a nil.
Ace of spades is 1.....king of hearts is 2(after the ace of heart is played).....you only have 2 clubs, so once the Ace of club is played and the King of club is played then the queen comes out and if your opponent plays that you can win that book with one of your spades. you can do the same thing with the hearts because you only have 2 of those also. Now a lot of this depends on your experience and your partners experience. Ive seen many a person mess this hand up and get destroyed. 🤣🤣
His first mistake is not putting his cards in order. He's a real trend "settee" not a setter. Bidding nil is not rare. I nil with non spades aces all the time .
Plus him having all those diamonds could mean somebody may be loaded with spades. Ijs. Maybe his partner. Maybe his opponents. That hand I sure wouldn’t go 5. The ace. King of hearts. He might get by cutting clubs and hearts. Him having all those cheap diamonds could kill his hand.
BRO!!!!!! U only have 2 books! Possibly 3 if u can get a cut book of. BUT WERE I LEARNED IN PRISON... U CANT EVEN COUNT CUT BOOKS!... A GOOD PLAYER WILL TAKE ALL SPADES OUT SOON AS HE HAS A CHANCE
Tht ace dont mean shit. At best itll walk if you're the anchor. But you cuttin hearts and clubs early and you still gotta hope your spades dont get pulled or trumped by someone else vuttjn. You gotta draw out aces with your diamonds for that ace to walk.
Appliance Paul well if it's me to start off then I'm trying to get rid of clubs first. I would hope whoever win that trick would come back with clubs or the Ace of heart helping me get rid of the Jack of heart making my king of heart guarantee. Now I can get rid of the other club leaving me with diamonds and spades. Now I'm hoping I can cut at least one of those suit ( hearts and clubs) each with my Ace of spade being guarantee for sure. I hope you understand where I was going with this😊
You are nuttier than squirrel turds if you think this hand would EVER take 5 tricks. I would bid 3 on that hand and possibly 4 if I was the last bidder and a 3 bid was only going to take the total bid to ten. This hand would take 5 tricks maybe once in 50 hands.
This is an instructional on how to get set!
