Chorus is the most incredible full sounding one. Unfortunately mine had problems and had to get rid of it
Totally agree with you! I’m really glad Nembrini brought out the plugin. That sounds like the hardware and it made me buy a real MP1 which is unique. My SLO, Plexi, DSL50, etc, sound great but they don’t sound like the MP1 😊 Have an awesome day!
Bought mine new when they came out in the 80's and still have it. I used it live and in the studio until the early 2000's. I did a lot of switching so I wanted a MIDI setup. My old school fridge had a BBE 482, Rocktron Intelliflex, Hush IICX, Alesis Quadraverb, Roland GP16 and a MosValve power amp. and mo pedals. Everyone had ART stuff and Marshall or Boogie power amps in their racks back then but I found my sound.
I used the ADA MP1 going into a Kitty Hawk German Boogie style valve power amp for years back in late 80's. Add to that the wonderful Alesis Quadraverb for FX which and was connected into a custom wired stereo vintage Marshall cab.. My sound was truly phenomenal especially when paired with a Hamer Scarab and EMG pickups. In my solo setting I literally could hold any note and it would feedback in tune!!! The sound is crystal clear and yet has a compression and sustain that I never could achieve any other rig. I could go on and on... but I won't hog your comments 😊❤️
I’ve been using mine since 1988. In 2006 I discovered the ADADepot forum and Jurrie was still alive then. Great bunch of guys, loads of laughs. They introduced me to the many mods for it, but I kept it mostly stock with the Battery Mod, Noise Mod, and MDRT replacement transformer. My output sections are a set of stereo power amps from Peavey, the Classic 50/50 EL84 tubes with Celestion Alnico Blue speakers, the Marshall EL34 50/50 with Heritage Greenbacks, and the Mesa Stereo 2:100 with Vintage30 and Redbacks. All switched with a Switchblade. The Depot is the place, even still. It’s a screamer of a preamp, and don’t forget Passion and Warfare. Steve Vai. And Metallica. The MP1 should be in every 80s arsenal.
Still have my MP1 I bought in 1987, still love giving it a spin every so often. George Lynch had a rack with a MP1 and SDE 3000 he used for clinics back then, just run it through fx loop of an available amp.
Very kind of you Carlos 😊 🙏. Thanks man! Yeah the plugin is awesome too! I have another MP1 video coming out tomorrow. I so love this preamp! Have an awesome day!
I one of these with a Digitech Quad effects unit, Rane Parametric EQ, and Rocktron power amp into an ADA cab loaded with Clestion GT 100's. I love the sounds I get out of this. I also have a the MB-1 since I play bass also. When you put either through a tube power amp, yeah they rock!
It was 87-88 I saw this in a guitar mag, not too long after a friend of mine came in w one a these , a power amp in his Marshall 4x12 …. Within 5 minutes of plugging in he was the KING of the entire city !
I love the riff you play in the first minute, it captures that late 80s cool hard rock/metal feel that was widespread at the time. I remember listening to an mp1 in a guitar shop back then and thinking it was incredible.
Still have my unmodded MP1 paired with a Axe FX 3 for effects then to a Marshall 9200 where Channel 1 of the 9200 powers a Marshall 1936 2x12 & Channel 2 of the 9200 goes to a Two Notes load box back into the Axe FX for IR/Headphone/Recording.
First of all, congratulations on the new song, spectacular👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Dude, I don't know if it's because it's from our generation but everything from before (now considered vintage) sounds amazing. I love that clean tone that you have achieved, it has me in love 😍😍😍
Thanks for the video and great playing! I’m one of those that was fortunate enough to own one of these gadgets in the 80s. I got one of 10 of the first units to enter Australia back in the day. I think you covered it’s features in the video pretty well. You mentioned it has chorus and it’s pretty good. The chorus I believe has two modes if my memory serves me and in the other mode it work as a notch filter. I used to use it with really low settings and it would create like a doubling affect used that way. Worked a treat for me as I recall but I ran a stereo rig back then. I have a friend that’s got one that’s in pieces. I might see if I can fix it for him. You’ve sparked a bit of nostalgia in me now!
Glad you enjoyed it 😊 Its such an awesome preamp! Very cool you had one of the first 10! Ah thank you for the tip about the compressor! I didn't know that! I will try that out through a couple of power amp sections. Have an awesome day man!
Love this Jay! The sounds are undeniable. I have the Nembrini version and since I'll never have the hardware, I'd love to see you do a side by side comparison. The same settings on each (hardware vs software) just to show what the differences are, and then a "close as you can get it " match settings in software. You'd be doing us a service, and also hopefully a market for us 80's junkies in some presets packs to buy from you? Rock on mate!
Thanks so much man! I have a video doing a tube comparison on the MP1 on which I dial in the Nembrini too which you can check out on my channel! Enjoy! Have an awesome day! I don't have a preset pack but have put up a couple of videos showing how I dial in my tones on the Nembrini - Nuno and Skid Row tones 😊 Have an awesome day!
Just stumbled upon this page and I’m blown away. (I hit the sub button) I remember when the ADA hit the scene. I had just moved from the Chicagoland area to the San Francisco Bay, was letting my hair grow out for the first time, stopped using my 1978 Les Paul custom and switched to Ibanez RG 550s. What an amazing time back then. Saw so many bands that used these. I saw the very first ever Mr. big show at the Omni in 1988, I believe it was, and I saw Extreme at The Stone in San Francisco on their first tour. We didn’t even know who they were. I don’t remember anything about that night except for flight of the wounded bumblebee, and Neal Schon talking to my girlfriend after I came out of the bathroom and approached her. I’m not starstruck by celebrity guitar players, but I was by him. I was very cool, had long hair and totally looked the part for back then, all the way down to my alligator skin boots. I introduced myself and told him I was a big fan, and he just looked at me like, “whatever”, and walked away. It was very strange and pretty sad. I later heard that he was married at the time, so he must’ve left because he found out the girl was with me.
Thanks for the sub man. I appreciate it. I am so blown away by the MP1 - its been really amazing to play over the last few weeks. Great tone and just does that 80s sound so well! Thats a cool story about the show you went to. Yeah some rockstars can be that way I guess. Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar by the way, have you done any videos using the rock man by Tom Scholz? I owned the original one when it first came out, should have never gotten rid of it.
@@jayguitar yeah, because you definitely don’t want to buy one nowadays. I think there’s something like $600 or $800, just because they’re highly collectible now that people realize that the entire Hysteria album by Def Leppard was done using one.
Bought mine back in -89 for 25$. Still have it and use it sometimes. Sometimes I lend it out to my guitarplaying friends, just to get some new sounds in it. I noticed that most of my presets sounded quite the same.😊
Yep the MP-1. Never had one back then but I bought three of these ( 2 normal, 1 classic) around 9 years ago for little money . The classic is also very nice but different. Unbelievable what the price of these is in todays market though !
Very Cool Jay, Nice playing as always, I still have those magazines with these in them! I have been looking for a Clean ADA MP-1 for sometime now, they a getting pricey to.
Gotta love that sound! Thanks for your videos about the MP1s. I'm really loving it - great great tone. Another MP1 video coming up next week 😊 🤘 Have an awesome day Leon.
I have had my ADA MP-1 since "92. I really like the ADA Microcab II. My secret with that is using both 1x12 open and closed filters at the Sametime. I mainly use my Tube heads with Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 and stereo Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus IR units now. I still use my ADA Micro Cab II with another rig. The ADA MP-1 is used with tube power simulation in the Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus set up. It is an alternative choice to the tube heads. I used the ADA MP-1 with a Boss NS-2. ADA in the NS-2 loop. The output went into a Realtube II preamp. The combination of the clean channel tone stack of the TW Realtube II preamp and Parametric eq in my Rocktron Replifex was my magic combination for my tone. I used that rig for a very long time. I never did any re-capping with mine. I run a lower volume on the ADA output. I play mostly 7 string.guitars.
Get the BBE plugin to go with it, it's night and day difference to the tone. First thing I paired this thing with when I got it was that plugin. I have a real rack (preamp and bbe) as well, just unfortunately remodeling my basement so it's all cased away until I can get it setup, probsbly November.
@@lorenmorgan1931 I still have an Aphex aural exciter from the early 90s that I used with my rack setup, a digitech 2120 (that was actually really good, people just couldn't be bothered to work on tones, the presets were all terrible!) I managed to get it sounding like the Burn My Eyes tone so I was happy with that.
I found a A/DA Mp 1 really cheap and a Furman PQ3. I’m not sure if it’s the typical Waegner sound they’re famous for but they do sound pretty damn good together. I need to find a great tube power amp instead of the Rocktron 120. The fx in the loop is a Lexicon Mpx 1 that works pretty well still.
I've been playing for 40 years and I still have the same rack I had over 30 years ago. Long live the 80s!! I have either a Rocktron Intellifex LTD or Rocktron Expression and my trusty BBE 462 Sonic Maximizer in the same rack for more than 20 years. Back in 1996 I was in Guitar Center in San Diego and I heard a guy jamming and it sounded different. It sounded bright and full and chewy it was pretty awesome. I noticed the guy was demoing the BBE unit. He did the on/off test and I was instantly sold. I acquired an ADA MP1 a few years later and I just didn't vibe with it. I think It's possible the unit had been modded or had crappy tubes something didn't seem right I couldn't get the tones I expected from it. Sounds great here.
ADA + BBE is a perfect match right? That combination works so well 😊 I bought a BBE as well - have the ADA and BBE hooked up permanently in the studio now. Loving the tones! Have an awesome day!
Great piece of gear. The only problem with it was the lag between patch changes - intolerable. I used a MIDI foot switcher and there would be about 1/2 second between patches. Had to ditch it.
Thank you for making this video. I just purchased my first Ada mp1 preamp! But I'm having issues hope you can help? The unit that I have has no switch at the top I don't know what this tells us? I get three area code to my first start up. I have tried to reload the pre-programmed settings bye Pauline Bank and one down after pushing store but they're not all loading in? Any help would be appreciated thank you for your time.
Hey dude, congrats on purchasing an MP1 and sorry to hear about the issues. I don’t personally know how to fix that issue but a place you might want to ask is adadepot.com/ as it’s a dedicated MP1 forum with some very knowledgeable folks who will likely be able to point you in the right direction. it might be that you need to change out the ROM chip in your MP1 but I don’t know for sure so join up to the forum and post a message with the details of what’s going on. And please do let me know what you find out. Have an awesome day!
I knew a lot of guys who were using the ADA MP1 in L.A. circa 1987-91. It was too ahead of it's time for its own good. I knew one great player who used one with a 400-watt Boogie SimulClass rack mounted power amp. It really produced a slam the ground and break the concrete crunch punch. It was awesome. But I think the thing that hurt the ADA MP1 from a marketing perspective was you couldn't show it off like a wall of Marshalls and it just sounded too wonky to a lot of players and that was stupid. Because some of the very players I knew who wouldn't touch an MP1 had massive Bradshaw-level racks. But they would rather use a heavily modded Marshall or Soldano or Boogie than an amp that could do anything and sound great doing it. Oh well!
Actually those guitarists used a combination of techniques - not just one - they used picking plus legato. Besides, the video was about the unit itself and the track I played was my own composition track so I played it with my own style of playing, not trying to emulate any of those guys 😊 Anyways, its an awesome preamp. Have a great day.
I have such sellers remorse from selling mine in the mid 90's. I don't understand why they would stop making these amazing units. Now people pay twice the amount to own one used.
Awesome demo as always Jay! So what's your verdict vs the plugin? I won't be able to hook mine up until I get my basement remodeled in Sept or Oct. But would love to hear others thoughts on what you think. I also have the sonic maximizer to rack with it.
Thanks man! Oh the plugin does a great job! Nembrini really captured the essence of the MP1. There is a sound difference but I am putting that down to tubes and a different power section. I'll be doing a few more vids of the MP1 and the plugin will be featured too 😊 Have an awesome day!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! I'm not in a band I'm afraid - I'd love to get back on stage with a band though! I miss that! 😊 🙏 Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar Hi Jay that’s a shame as you talent needs to be heard. I was in a band in the early 90’s called State Of Mind and I’ve put a playlist together on SoundCloud, I’d like your honest opinion on the tunes, do you have a platform I can send you the link to?

So funny… preamp revival… played the hughes kettner, marshall , the mesa studio an triaxis, art, soldano. Uhh the soldano. Funnn. Heavey rack sold it all. Now my pedalboard weighs the same. Who wíll bring out the next all tube racksystem?
The MP-1 is pretty cool. But it absolutely needs external EQ or a BBE. The onboard eq is limited and can’t dial out the inherent mid honk and dull treble it has. They also switch patches really slowly from clean to gain and back. They are also quite noisy. So if you’re looking for a unit that can do it all on its own the MP-1 is not it. You’ll need a noise gate, BBE, and then a GCX looper and another preamp to switch to for cleans. People drive up the prices of these with their RUclips videos and don’t explain the flaws it has.
Yes, very true - they can be noisy for sure! lol! But I have managed to dial mine in without the BBE (another new video about it coming tomorrow 😉). For all its quirks, the tone is pretty amazing I think. As a studio tool its a great addition to my studio imo 😊 Have an awesome day.
Remember when these were new and all the rage. The rack era. Traditional pedals were kinda frowned on. You couldn’t give away those old pedals in certain circles.
Oh yeah they can be very noisy! The one I bought is a little quieter as it had the ADA Depot noise mods done to it. I have it running pretty quiet in my studio now 😊 Have an awesome day!
I had one and my ex-wife gave it away. I came home from work and I noticed my gear was missing. She gave away my cabinet, all my rack units and two of my guitars. When I asked her about it she just smiled and said "Ooopppss". I filed for divorce the next day. When I asked her why she told me because she was mad at me. I asked her what she mad at me about and she said because she wanted to be mad at me. I had a pretty good idea who she gave it to but I couldn't find them and he avoided me for years. I was pretty sure he sold my guitars and equipment to buy drugs.
Brings back memories - an A/DA, a Mesa Power amp and a 4x12 cabinet - glorious AND MIDI?!? It was glorious.
I did the same...and yes, it was glorious!

Love your shirt man !
Amazing sound n tone
I have one getting dust in my garage, you make think about giving it a try
Well done!!!!!!
Sounds so good!
Sounds awesome... Is it plugged ing the front of ur amp or threw effects loop? Love the channel
@@jayguitar thank you for your help it's most appreciated. I will check out your link and let you know what happens. Keep doing what you do!
You’re welcome. Hopefully it is a simple fix and you can be shredding with it real soon 😊🙏🏽🤟🏽
Oh well!
Pair the Ada with a quadraverb from the same time into a 4x12 cab it’s ultimate 80 tone
I had that back in the day, late 80's and early 90's. MP1 and Sonic Maximizer. Of course the goodf old Quadraverb for effects. It was a nice setup.
Love mine!
Well done ! Nice track you made at the end also
The guitar body looks sick! As if someone torched it and then painted it over with transparent lacquer!
All those albums you mentioned played nearly ever note. That's a lot of why it sounds so good. You seem to try just the opposite and go full legato.
Sounds so good mate. We are all gonna be on bloody Reverb now 😂
Haha! I know what you mean! That was me a few weeks ago 😂 Thanks Si! Always appreciate dude! Have an awesome day!
Welcome to the club :)
Lunch used one for awhile
Awesome!🔥
Great tone. I can "hear the wood"
Jay what do you think of the 92Quadraverb
Hi Jeff, never played one I'm afraid 😊 🙏 Have an awesome day.
Hi . Whats the year of your preamp? thanks
No idea what year my one is from dude 🤔 Have an awesome day.
Hi Jay another great video, I was wondering if you’re in a gigging band?
@@joshuasydnee I'd love to hear the music - head over to my website jayparmar.com - or you can find my email on the youtube 'about me' page - and send me a message through there with the link and I'll take a listen. Thanks man!
@@jayguitar Hi Jay I can’t seem to find an email.
Can I copy link here, will it be accepted by RUclips?
Smoking Jay!
So funny… preamp revival… played the hughes kettner, marshall , the mesa studio an triaxis, art, soldano. Uhh the soldano. Funnn. Heavey rack sold it all. Now my pedalboard weighs the same. Who wíll bring out the next all tube racksystem?
Monster player,,,, love my mp1
Thanks, I appreciate it. Me too! Loving having an MP1 in the studio now! More MP1 videos coming soon 😊 🤘 🙏 Have an awesome day!
Awesome, now just score a furman pq-3 to boost the ada. Total 80’s tone
Wahooo!
Yep they are the daddy
😊 🤘 🙏 Totally agree with you Robert!
you can tell how great these are by looking at the used market
Yep totally! They are going up in value 😊 Glad I bought one already. Have a great day.
I could kick myself in the ass for selling mine. The foot switch was horrible but the tone was incredible clean or dirty
Ya I had one once. Once. Hated it
Now I really regret I sold mine ….
Прикольный страт
Thanks so much. Glad you like it. Its a pretty cool guitar that one. Have an awesome day.
Still own mine from 89 , it's awesome but noisy AF.....
Oh man! Sorry to hear that dude! They are still out there - glad I found one 😊 Great addition to the studio. Have an awesome day.
