Long-tail Tubular Cast-On for 1x1 Ribbing
Pull out enough yarn, approx four times the width of the piece you are knitting. Hold the needle in your right hand and place the yarn on it so that the working yarn (the one that is going to the ball of yarn) is closest to you. Twist the yarn under needle, so that now the tail yarn is closest to you. This loop is your first stitch and it counts as a knit stitch. Let the tail yarn and the working yarn hanging down, and insert your left hand index finger and thumb between the two strands, hold the tails in your palm and with your index finger and thumb pull yarns back in a slingshot position. Secure the first loop on the right-hand needle with your right hand index finger and thumb.
1. Reach the needle tip over the top of working yarn, down underneath, then over the tail yarn and pull the loop back up behind and to the top of the working yarn. This stitch with a bump is a purl stitch.
2. Now reach the needle tip front of and under the tail yarn, then over the top of the working yarn, and pull the loop forward underneath the tail yarn and back up to the top. This stitch is a knit stitch.
Repeat steps 1-2 until required number of stitches for the size you are working are on the needle, ending with step 1. In order to secure last purl stitch, twist working and tail yarn under the last stitch.

Don’t join in the rnd yet, work first row back and forth as follows:
Tubular row 1 (RS): [k1 tbl, sl1 wyif] to end.
Now join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts, pm for BOR (the one in different colour or style from the others).
Tubular rnd 2: [sl1 wyib, p1] to BOR m.
