You’d have to experiment with swatching but I’d try doing a cast on for 2x2 ribbing and then working a m1 increase in the middle of each knit column (once you have the stitches arranged for 2x2 rib).
Is the first cast on stitch ( the slip knot) considered the knit stitch or the purl stitch? Or should I assume it can be either or? Ie whatever I do next assume it’s the opposite? For 1x1 ribbing the slip knot would be considered the knit stitch and then proceed to do a purl stitch? Thanks so much! This was very very helpful!

I'm sorry the audio on this one was difficult for you to hear - we had some tech issues with this particular tutorial but our new ones only have intro music, not anything layered with the speaking.

What if you don't want a knot at the very beginning? I would think that would be visibly different than the others

Yes, you can choose to make the slip knot a knit or purl stitch by following it with the opposite - whichever you need for your pattern :)
Music is in left headphone and the speaker is only in the right most of the time.

I used to love the Ysolda technique videos but they now come with music which makes it hard for my brain to hear the instructions. Such a shame
