  • In this episode of Wisconsin Foodie, Host Luke Zahm travels to Oak Creek to visit the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. 10 years ago a gunman opened fire killing seven members of the Sikh temple, including president Satwant Singh Kaleka while they were preparing a free community meal called Langar. Luke meets Pardeep Kaleka, Satwant’s son and tours the temple, getting an opportunity to learn more about the Sihk community and their cultural connection to food. Luke finds his way to the kitchen to help make 2000 samosas for the upcoming ten year anniversary of the tragedy and eventually sits down to enjoy the Langar experience with the Kaleka family.

I owe my life to Hadjit Singh, my surgeon who for 13 hours dug around, washed off and rewired my guts after another surgeon botched my gall bladder removal. I lived in Malaysia for 17 years and have been privileged to know many Indian people, both Sikh and Hindi. I would love to visit this temple and share Langar. While I was in recovery, for 3 weeks I couldn't eat and survived via IV drip. Every Friday the Sikh community came to the recovery ward and shared Langar and I was always so envious of those who could eat. I miss Indian food very much.

I enjoyed visiting the Sikh temple in Espanola NM and the experience was memorable. It was the Hanaman temple in Taos NM where I was most involved and enriched.

Do they support India or Khalistan?

Obviously Khalistan as india is not a country but a toilet.Had it been a country Indians wouldn’t have been that desperate to leave their own country and opt for their oppressors country. As you may already know if you give indian a choice to live in his own country vs United Kingdom /west Indian will always opt for later and still keep crying colonialism was bad. Moreover Sikhs had their own glorious nation which they aspire to have rather than being called citizen of toilet.Enjoy.
