  • Is your glove box not closing properly? Or maybe it doesn't want to stay shut? Both of these symptoms are common problems to W123s as they age. Fortunately, Michael has come up with a lasting fix. Enjoy!

Nice fix! I have owned 5 w123s over the years, and every single one has had a glovebox issue exactly as you describe or close to it. I never knew the root issue, but you figured it out! That deformation makes a lot of sense. A glovebox door seems like a minor thing, but when you have an otherwise nice car, and the glovebox door is rattly and pops open randomly, it's really annoying. Thank you!

I highly highly recommend not prying against any rubber or plastic on these cars. You will just break things. As to the nubs holding the spring, we used to just replace the entire plastic piece. Later I just rebuilt those with jb weld.

God bless you Michael, you're a great technician. But these Mercedes, as great as they are in some ways, they really are pretty lousy in other ways, with the design of these gloveboxes for example. When you compare them to the build quality of classic old American cars, they can be very dissapointing.
