  • Jeremy is showing Kara how to charge her car battery using jumper cables. In this video, Jeremy will demonstrate how to use jumper cables to jump start the car's dead battery by using the cable to transfer power from the good battery over to the dad battery. These steps will work in places like Florida, Texas and New York. It will work in countries like India, South Africa, Germany, England or any place you want to jump start your car.

If you connect the black then red on the flat battery vehicle first, make sure the alligator clamps aren’t touching at the other end or both touching the same same piece of metal. This will cause a short and possible damage. Red to red then black to black is better practice.

Actually negative first. Because if positive first, its will ground to what it can. And if im wrong then it really doesnt matter.

This is not CHARGING a battery, this is JUMP STARTING A BATTERY that has a WEAK CHARGE. If the battery were totally dead and needed to be CHARGED, you connect it to another car or a powered charger for an extended period of time to CHARGE it and not just JUMP it. If you're gonna put these videos out - terms and language matter. Also, don't let the cables touch or just take them off and drop them.

If you attach the negative to the area of the body with paint there is a chance the paint will prevent the power from reaching the car in need of a charge. If there is a connection through a scratch in the paint, a spark could create a hold resulting in rust later on.

I'm sure this guy means well... but this will only get a dead battery to blow up in your face!
Always connect ground last... an electric circuit is always dead until it's grounded!
Then remove any order you put them on... remove the ground and it kills the circuit!
A dead battery produces hydrogen, therefore, it's a hydrogen... waiting for an ignition source!
Put your cables on the dead battery first, then energized those cables with a good battery or charger on the other end!
Do not energized cables with a charger or a good battery and then put those cables on a dead!
Again, the dead battery is a hydrogen bomb, waiting for a spark!
So don't put live current to those terminals first.
Put the cables on the battery, positive first and then ground clamp.
Then attach the other side of your cables to you power source.
    You'll live a lot longer!

King Dom is right!!!!! This video gives BAD ADVICE since you ALWAYS ATTACH THE RED BATTERY CABLE FIRST!
Do not have the working vehicle running when attaching or disconnecting the batteries. A short from accidentally contacting the cables together, or elsewhere, could damage the electronics in the working vehicle!
    1. Start by clamping one RED cable to the positive side of the battery that won't start.
    2. Then attach the other RED clamp to the positive side of the working battery.
    3. Then clamp one end of the BLACK cable to the negative side of the working battery.
    4. Finally, attach the other BLACK clamp to a vehicle ground (a bare metal component in your vehicle's engine block, or a clean bolt, or a frame structure) of the vehicle with the dead battery - DO NOT connect it to the dead battery.
    5. Once the batteries are connected, let the batteries sit for a short while (less than a minute) to let the power between the two batteries settle out.
    6. Then start the vehicle with the good battery, let it rev up a bit, then start the vehicle with the dead battery.
    7. While the charged vehicle is running turn off the charging vehicle.
    8. Then disconnect the battery cables in reverse order.
    a. Remove the BLACK clamp from the ground of the charged vehicle.
    b. Remove the Back clamp from the charging vehicle.
    c. Remove the RED clamp from the charged vehicle.
    d. Remove the RED clamp from the charging vehicle.
    9. Let the vehicle with the charged battery run for 10-15 minutes to get some charge back into the battery.
    10. Go to a service outlet and have your battery tested.
    11. Go buy a set of battery cables and leave them in the trunk of your car for possible future use.

Thank you! While watching this video I thought I was experiencing early stage dementia because he was doing everything the exact opposite of the way that I was taught to do it.
And he connected the negative of the jumper cables to the battery post on the car being charged which is dangerous because of the risk of a spark causing a fire or explosion.

    • @that_random_dad
      @that_random_dad 6 месяцев назад

Good advice. Also, if the alternator is not working (usually indicated with a battery icon on the dash), the battery will not charge but rather deplete as the systems use it for ignition, etc. If this is the case, once the car is running, get it to a safe place as soon as possible, shut it down and call a tow truck. It will not start again and it will only run for a short time (shorter if things like lights, wipers, fan, AC, radio, defrost is on).

Dead Red to donor Red, Black donor to Black dead on metal in engine block(not battery). To take off: dead Black to donor Black, donor red to dead red. Correct? Putting the cables on like a U, taking them off like a U in reverse order.
