Thank you for the video, I just came out of my eye doctor's office with a PVD diagnosis. While I am currently relieved, I'll be on pins and needles until this resolves, and my follow up exam comes out clean.

this video sorta sums up. thanks. a lot of people including me dont know what this is until they encounter it themselves, i had a retina tear and had "urgent" focal lazer procedure and " sealed" it up. its been like 3 weeks and so far.. the lazer looks ok and the black floaters are minimized based on my doctor as every week, i had to check up with him. i stil hav those hazy annoying light veil floaters stuff and i know its take months for them to hopefully disappear.

It effects vision! It is not benign in my consideration when it effects vision. Having bits of lint spots in the middle vision moving around is not a benign situation. It might not be damaging the retina or tearing it or touching it, but...... but.... vision problems are not benign when floaters are semi attached and there is a veil in your line of vision. Sorry, you need to be more precise in your language. Just because it is a normal condition does not mean that it is necessarily benign. Just because the retina is not damaged does not mean it is benign.

Compared to the alternative, it's benign buddy.

That was very useful thank you. I have had a non-dilated examination this morning after a bout of left-side wide flashing arcs experienced when looking quickly up and down. How important is it to follow up with a dilated exam? I am seeing some new black dots and a small number of new floaters in the left eye, thankfully not directly in my line of sight so far.

What I don't get is I'm told the vitreous humor is there to keep the eye ball from collapsing. If this is the case and the vitreous is becoming more liquid than gel why not attempt to "add" more gel into the eye thus preventing the vitreous from detaching further?

I tried to get my eyes examined if for nothing else than peace of mind. I have symptoms of PVD but my vision is fine. I have mild floaters, broken blood vessels in eye, and flashes of light sometimes after seeing bright objects. They won’t take my vision card. They want my medical card and I have to pay my deductible off immediately before seeing the doctor. I tried two different places. Why do I have to give my medical card and pay off my deductible just to be seen. Also prep prevents both HIV and Hepatitis yet my insurance won’t cover a hepatitis test required to get prep. Lastly they keep on canceling my auto insurance and with out home and auto bundled I can’t afford the mortgage payment on my house nor can I drive to work. Something has to fix insurance because it’s neither useful nor reassuring.

I got PVD in my right eye exactly one month after cataract surgery. It happened while doing sit-ups in the gym. First it was swirling shapes, like swarms of insects or birds moving left and right. About 30 minutes later these subsided. In their place I saw thousands of tiny dots. A week later now the tiny dots are mostly gone. I still see floaters ( smudges ) in my vision, but they're tolerable. I hope these will also go away in time.

I got a PVD in my left eye after see lightning-like flashes for about a month. Was first diagnosed as no retinal tear, but just four days later, I woke up with much jell, liquid, and blood blocking my vision in the eye due to two small retinal tears! Went to an expert retinal specials who tried pneumatic retinaplexy (spelling?) and laser, but no go. He tried cryo treatment and will find out later today if it worked or vitrectomy for me on Wednesday. Now, my RIGHT EYE started going through PVD at the sane time!! I am now TERRIFIED of losing sight in BOTH my eyes at the same time!! Yes, it rarely happens, but anything RARE and BAD ALWAYS seems to happen to me! I also suffer from male pelvic pain syndrome...a RARE male pelvic muscle tension problem as well as back disc herniation! I also went partially deaf in my left ear all of a sudden...a RARE AND not understood problem! The list goes on for me, dear God, but the loss of my vision all at once is just WAY, WAY too much for me to handle now!!! I am SCARED to my WITS END!!!

@@michael5089 Not so good! I go for surgery on Feb. 8, but I must get medical approval first next week! Since I am a chronic pain sufferer, I cannot stay in one position for too long. Lying on my stomach is IMPOSSIBLE as I get SEVERE back and pelvic pain and cannot urinate unless I squat over a basin! My blood pressure is all over the place as medication does not always work...some not at all! I build quick tolerance to many high blood pressure meds. Under extreme anxiety, my top pressure can reach over 200! My bottom, over 120! Staying calm is very difficult under the circumstances. My right eye continues its PVD with floaters and occasional flash in a dark room or subdued light. I feel like the clock is quickly counting down for me now!

@@arthurmann578 Thanks for replying. Did you have vitrectomy done in your left eye in the end as you mentioned this in your original comment saying you were going on a Wednesday but only if the cryo treatment didn't work. So now you have the right eye to get done as well in February? Has this eye got a tear or detatchment? So is the surgery in Feb a vitrectomy? The recovery looks difficult as you have to keep your head down? Can I ask how old you are and do you have support from family or friends?🙏💙😐

      @@michael5089 Hi Michael!
The cryo on my left eye failed and surgery was delayed a week to, hopefully, Feb. 8 as I need medical clearance (a physical) first. My right eye is going through a PVD now as I see many floaters and an occasional flash in the right edge of my right eye. This is what has me terrified as if, God forbid, it has a retinal detachment like my other eye, I may be completely blind! It takes weeks to possibly months to fully recover, hopefully, your vision after surgery from a retinal detachment. I am fearful that my "good eye" will detach before my left eye has had a chance to recover. My right eye has always been my better eye as the other has a bad astigmatism and I always had trouble reading and seeing clearly from it...even with glasses. Today I put on a blindfold and tried maneuvering around my house as I will be alone most of the day into evening until my wife gets home from work! Unfortunately, I am the one who keeps my 100 year old home in working order as well as doing all necessary chores for us. My wife is "all thumbs" about anything repair related. I am trying to teach her stuff as quickly as possible just in case, but she gets nervous about it! I could never of imagined that I would need to do something like this in my life, but I am not too surprised as my health has not been the greatest for 20+ years, but...THIS...completely took me by surprise! I guess that you cannot predict when life will throw you a "curve ball" I suppose. My wife tells me that I am being braver than her about it, but I am doing my best to hide the fear I have inside of me now for her.....
Thank you for keeping tabs on me as it is a very lonely feeling I get thinking that I may enter darkness for some time. All these thoughts go through your head like...how do I dress myself...how do I feed myself...how can I find my way around or do ANYTHING by myself??!! My eyes are EVERYTHING to me as probably to everybody else as well! Live life to the fullest while you can, I suppose, as you never know what tomorrow may bring. I hope that all is well with you and yours. Keep me in your thoughts, bro!
"See" you later, God willing! 👍👍❤❤

@@arthurmann578 Thank you Arthur. May I ask how old you are? I'm currently having PVD and am awaiting a more detailed hospital check on my eye although the opticians said that they couldn't see a detached retina or similar. They said there is maybe a hole on the periphery of retina which the hospital can see if there is. But even then they said they will probably just monitor it. I've got flashing and more floaters but so far hasn't got worse. I live on my own in a 65 year old house! So not as old as yours. I really don't want an operation as it's the arrangements after I've had it done that would be a nightmare! I'd probably have to go and live with friends for couple weeks. I'm 55 and shortsighted so more at risk. The problem is that PVD could just turn into a detached retina at anytime. You just don't know. It's a shame that you can't get an operation to say, strengthen the retina , if the experts can detect weakness, before anything actually happens. But it's all reactivate. You have to wait until something happens (God forbid) before you have an operation that may or may not be fairly successful. Let's keep in touch🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💙

Hi Dr. thank you for your video in explaining PVD. I had some floaters a week ago in one eye and been diagnosed with "Partial" PVD in both eyes using a OCT Scan. I need advice on care of "Partial" vs normal PVD. I read on the RNIB web site that should avoid exercise for 6 weeks. Is that the same for "Partial" PVD? I would like to know if I can I still do Running, Swimming, Push ups, using Gym weight machines, Punching a punch bag..etc? Anything to avoid and for how long if "Partial" PVD? Thanks

😮😢😢. Of course you don't do that. You have to be resting for a least 3-4 weeks. And then go back to work. The pvd is a condition when you take your life and activities in slow motion. Or else. Your gonna make your condition worse like retinal detachmen and tearing and holes in the retina. ( Thas the words of my optometrist)
