It’s really interesting that the normal battle theme In this game was meant to be a boss theme, that makes a specific track in the second game even better
2:03 Glad to see that Cu's tale of woe has some happy end 5:04 Huh. Makes me wonder if there's anything in the Karma Temple worth guarding. Although couldn't have people used items to fight the guards? 8:01 Helping others is what great protags do 14:40 Something a little funny. When I saw Miraidon, I compared it to SMT's Vasuki design(Don't ask me how beyond both of them being snakes with hands. Part of it might be the purple on them both) and made a comment about it being the voice of Yveltal due to the association in my head with the roles of the Kalos Trio and the Trimurti(Although to my understanding comparing Xerneas and Brahma isn't really as strong as the other 2) didn't exactly help that card package art of Miraidon showed it with dead trees. This is all to say that comment became particularly funny when Z-A was announced. 22:47 I may have said this before but I find the normal battle theme kind of calming, so its a little odd to imagine it as a boss theme. Then again I find Big Battle calming in if I focus on the backing track(I hope I'm using the right term) 33:15 All 3 went into 1 mouth. Its probably an animation thing but that other mouth must be starving 35:27 Reminds me of Necrozma's Z-Move name in Japanese, but thats a super move of a legendary. I guess a closer idea to this would be Night Slash being Crossroad Killing in Japanese
5:04 All the chests only appeared after Sera did. 8:01 Agreed. 22:47 No, I agree. This one's a little too... slow-paced to be a boss theme imo. 33:15 Yeah I've noticed that too and it kind of bugs me. 35:26 "Light That Burns The Sky" is still an insanely epic and long move name even in English.
@@BigKlingy 5:04 Ah 35:27 That reminds me that the English name for Lunala's/Dawn Wing's Necrozma's Z-Move goes more over the top compared to the Japanese name, and what Solgaleo's/Dusk Mane Necrozma's English Translation, at least as an English speaker. Their Japanese names are Sunshine Smasher and Moonlight Blaster with the former getting translation of Searing Sunraze Smash. Moonlight Blaster got translated as Mencing Moonraze Maelstorm. I get why Sunshine Smasher and Moonlight Blaster would sound cool to a Japanese Audience(I myself outright perfered the Japanese names for awhile), I just find it funny Solgaleo's gets a more direct translations while Lunala's ended up like that.
@@matts5747 That reminds me of how FFXIII's class names in Japanese were things like "Attacker" and "Blaster" while in English they're more military-sounding like "Commando" and "Ravager".
0:38 Hell yeah, free Soma! 1:33 That reminds me of this one moment in Honkai Star Rail, where you can skip a boss fight if you say the right dialogue choices beforehand. Essentially, there's a point where you need to participate in a competition so that you can interfere with the villain's plans, and the end of that competition involves fighting this Lawful Good knight guy, and if you're completely honest with him on why you're participating in the competition, he lets you go without fighting him. 2:45 It's final dungeon time, baby! 4:11 Yeah, I get that you're trying to level Heat up since he's behind on levels, but at the same time, he's going to be pretty useless in this fight since they're immune to Physical and Heat's Magic sucks. 5:03 Gameplay and Story Integration, how I love you so! 8:55 That's definitely fitting considering that's essentially what we're doing right now. 13:18 *Homelander has entered the chat* 16:44 A "cool" skill, you say? 19:21 ...Lovely. 22:17 The way I see it, a good regular battle theme should be a song that you never get tired of no matter how many times you listen to it. How that can be done, I don't know, I'm not a composer. 28:42 I just remembered, isn't this story also the inspiration for the Ancient Cistern in Skyward Sword? 30:57 Thought so. 31:21 Vah Medoh is the bird, you're thinking of Vah Ruta, though I would agree, Vah Ruta was pretty good. 35:21 I mean... that is what Ragnarok is, technically speaking.
4:44. I think it also works for the Karma Temple's original purpose as a Neutral Zone in the Junkyard. Anyone who tries to start something, they'll be immediately neutralized by the Temple Guards. So there's no point in fighting within the Karma Temple hence the neutrality/temporary ceasefire. 5:08. Varna Roars and somewhere in the Karma Temple. Guard 1: Mike did you hear that? Guard 2: Yeah, I heard it too. What was that? Guard 1: Sounds like a Demon with an absurdly high Magic Stat. Guard 2: Kevin I'm scared. Guard 1: Me too Mike. Me too. 10:20. I get the feeling if Angel planned this out in advance, Marevert would have a much higher success chance. 24:50. And how fitting that all 3 of those final dungeons are Towers. Seriously what is up with SMT and making Tower dungeons tedious as hell?
4:44 Yep. There'd be no way TO fight the Temple before the Demon Virus hit. 5:08 Also lol. 10:20 I'm glad it doesn't, at least. 24:50 And yep, PS2-era SMT LOVED its towers.
when the spiders thread is brought up in video games im always reminded of yokai watch 2 where its the inspiration for the post game dungeon & strongest superboss
1:42 It is funny seeing an NPC become a handsome human demon while all the playable characters are monstrous-- that's something that wouldn't happen nowadays. 22:00 Yeah, that's something I'd sorta picked up on during the LP but couldn't quite put my finger on; definitely wish more games did that.
1:42 Even weirder knowing they canonically still eat people. 22:00 This and Nocturne are some of the few I know of. And both are games that are near-constant random encounters, so this really, really helps. Heck, that I didn't notice for so long was a sign it was working.
The final dungeon begins! In other news, Cu Chulainn gets therapy. 12:57 Fortunately real life elevators are much safer then fictional ones. Seeing Rakshasa standing is kinda weird, I'm too used to their floating pose in the Persona games. Having a skill called "End of the World" reminds me that in of some Dragon Ball games, IIRC, one of Frieza's attacks is just called "Destroy the Planet", which hilariously can't trigger the mechanic that *destroys the planet.* (Or at least the stage you fight on.)
12:57 Elevator malfunctions are just... fun in fiction, I guess. A few of the Demons do interesting things with their animations in these games. Recently I saw Kartikeya in DDS2 and he opens his peacock's tail feathers in a way you never see in Persona.
8:35 America has a similar children’s story (which may be based on it) of a spider trying to climb up a water drain only to get flushed down by the rain.
I'm familiar with The Spiders Thread, my grandmother had a book that was a collection of Japanese children's stories that she used to read to me when I was little which included that story. She gave it to me a few years ago when she was doing some house cleaning. She was going to throw it away but she knew how much I liked it and asked if I wanted to keep it. Just the kind of thing that happens when all your grandchildren are adults now I guess. Maybe if I ever have kids someday I'll read it to them. And in case anyone was wondering, Momotaro was my favorite.
It's always nice when favourite childhood stories get passed on. Glad to know someone grew up with this one. Momotaro sounds interesting but I heard it got used as propaganda during WWII...
@@BigKlingy Oh it did, and my grandmother is certainly of that era but thankfully I didn't have the propagandized version. Seeing as what my political stances are now, I'd say I turned out ok. xD
The funny thing is that there's an optional boss in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring that has a boss named Rakshasa. However it's just an NPC fight, but the armor set you get from it is red like seen here. It's also a pretty good armor set as each piece grants a 2% increase to damage dealt, but also increases damage taken the same amount per piece. Also another thing that's completely unrelated, but Six Flags Great America announced that their 2025 addition will be a roller coaster by the name of Wrath of Rakshasa. So seeing Rakshasa appear here is amusingly relevant.
We have entered the Karma Temple! Sadly due to this game predating it by like a year this temple is not blasting Karma the Tales of the Abyss opening……..Boo.
26:21 Speaking of Critical Role, they posted a video today that was rather sad. Specifically that Sam Riegal was away for a time battling tonsil cancer.
Yeah, I noticed. I'll watch it now. Edit: Watched. Yikes, throat cancer is awful but for a VOICE ACTOR it's even worse. Not only do you have to go through all that treatment, you're also stopped from doing the thing you love. Glad he's getting better.
@@BigKlingy Mickey’s old VA in KH2 passed away from throat cancer right around the time of 358/2 days. His performance as Mickey was likely being affected because of it.
35:25 the worst part is "The End of the World" isn't even the part of this I find the funniest. That's the fact Ganesha's drop item is listed as "Despair"
0:21 Mystery Food X was a real consumable item? HA! "The Final Edition" really is the "perfected" version! 1:30 There are optional fights, and then there's this. 2:24 "The New Hee" is an interesting title! 3:25 It figures the spectators were robot! 6:52 Oh, Heat... 12:58 Me too. That makes two spin-offs of SMT that had an elevator crash. 22:39 It shows. 28:52 Remember kids, if you're greedy, the Buddha won't be able to save you. 31:22 It's like comparing apples and oranges. 34:54 Ganesha: "FEAR ME FOR I AM ASGARD'S DOO-HOOOOOM" 37:05 That's unfortunate. I've had a few stores frustrate me with new policies too.
3:41 For a game that pretty much entirely relies on standard SMT Demom designs for regular enemies, bosses and mini bosses it’s incredibly weird that we have something like the Temple Soldiers, even before considering they are robots it’s an original design given to regular enemies. Funnily making them very to roles the Corporobos have in Okumura’s Palace in Persona 5, a game that has SMT demons as regular enemies has the only reoccurring enemies that aren’t being robots, the Corporobos only show up in scripted encounters rather than as regular enemies. Design wise, to me they resemble a combination of the Persona 2 Eternal Punishment version of Hyperion, and Kamen Rider Psyga from the movie Kamen Rider 555 Paradise Lost, the former of which was also designed by Kaneko. Albeit I do feel there might be in universe reasons for their design, for example their head design and legs look like the head piece and trousers that Gale wears. 4:51 This gimmick is one that I feel relies more on the active elements of how these enemies are designed rather than any passive part of their design. While their passive immunity do effect both how the mini bosses are fought as well as the regular enemy version, since they are immune to Physical and Expel you cannot rely on critical against them nor halving their health, you need Magic of some form and the mini boss version makes Gale and Cielo a bit better on average since they start with their weaknesses. But what makes the design concept affect gameplay relies on them actively using Revert and Marevert and then using Impale when the party is in human form, which makes their passives immunities makes fighting them harder. 14:44 I do feel like him having a story role in SMT V is itself weird by context when you consider most other demons who have a strong story role, him being a follower of Shiva makes sense, it’s something you do see in SMT V in the last part of Daat not just including people who just so happen to come from the same mythology, for example the Hecatoncheires even in their mythology followed Zeus. But the other Bethel leaders are either original characters and designs to the game, like Abidiel, Tsukuyomi and Khonsu or are the leaders of their known pantheons like Odin and Zeus, as well as him being the only Kaneko designed member, while having a similar role and status to Odin and Zeus in the game. Nor is he a demom who tends to get a lot of roles. While here, he isn’t as plot relevant, but they could have chosen a lot of potential demon designs as minibosses for the Karma Temple, but since they chose Hindu figures he fits right in. 27:03 The thing I find with JRPG Speedruns is that the difficulty as well as what is very good might not be reflective of what the game is normally like in terms of difficulty balancing or what’s good. And hence shouldn’t be taken as an example of how to play a game/what’s good in a non Speedrun context, it’s like adding another difficulty to the game With an JRPG Speedrun, as you said anyone who comes here in a Speedrun is going to be under-levelled, Which makes the game harder because they are playing a certain way not intended by the developers. You are expected to fight a good amount of theoretically optional fights so you are at a similar level to the enemies, And I assume you will also tend to have more skill options, because more fights means more Macha which means more Mantras, even what I assume is a 100% Speedrun, where your attempting to do everything you can in the least amount of time. So while they will do optional content that makes the rest of the game easier they will still be going into fights with less overall resources.
You get ap after the temple guards. That feels kinda wrong Vasuki was the first boss i fought in taito in smt V and i ended up just cheesing him with the rangda essence. I like rakshasa a lot. Its design is cool and i jad a rakshasa that got a lot of magician cards in p4g and became really good because of it
8:19 the title of this song gives me persona q vibes. Like don't get me wrong it works in some sort of thematic way but again I am really getting persona q vibes it doesn't help that the colour scheme of the floors in this dungeon is a more greyish version of the purple used in the early floors of the clocktower. 13:50 insert bigklingy trying to understand what version of Asura is The SMT Asura based on joke here
This place is so tall (in both directions) floors have lost their meaning. 4:17 Cool effects though. 5:48 Sera's now a hacker with voice commands. Got it. 7:35 Aaaand down he goes. +1 to the dead people we owe favors to. 9:25 Large damage. 14:35 There you go, that's a more understandable size than your puny SMT5 self. 16:09 So either way he's getting to slap you with physical crits. Freeze or Shock. 18:22 Unofficial fail channel! 19:20 What any person would say "very far down" 22:41 Yeah that definitely explains why it's so good. And they definitely didn't lower the awesomeness on the sequel. 30:09 She probably has Force Resist to cover her weakness. 33:12 Whee a bit more. 35:22 Ganesha casually causing special Game Overs out here? 38:08 I uh, expected the chest. 39:00 So says the text of editing Klingy as the Samael gets Frightened 42:33 Map completionists are happy now. 42:44 Insert fighting game "COUNTER" sound here. 43:32 It's so rare that you get to use Stone in RPGs. Only other instance that comes to mind is Live a Live's Deepest Dark. Basically required to defeat one of the superbosses of Oboromaru's chapter, since it's massive and drains the water terrain it loves to spam.
Spider's Web, heh well it is a thing also seen done in one of the Dungeon's in Skyward Sword and that was a really great Dungeon to; i not played SS myself but seen Chuggaaconory's LP on Skyward Sword *Edit* hah i was a little early on typing this of you mention it which i should of expected that
It's pretty cool to see Zelda draw from sources like that. Back in my Japanese class, I showed them a video of that part of Skyward Sword after we read the story.
It didn't occur to me to ask but you going to cover the sequel after? Given you keep mentioning it and how this game has impact on it. Either way look forward to whatever you do. Nice seeing Rakshasa show up as the Elden Ring DLC has a fight with one (which somehow slipped my mind they're demons and basically copyright free). Interesting to note is while he only has a great Katana, he does have suspiciously red armour. As for "Revelation" it always reminds me of this one youtube recommendation called Kingpin Skinny Pimp - Revelations. The chorus being "Revelation's coming, don't try running, (something something) to make that money" really sticks in the mind.
I've been having a blast with Daybreak at the moment, but I've run into an issue where I cant take a returning character seriously anymore that isnt the fault of the gaame. Minor character spoiler for a character reapparence btw The direwolf is voiced by Shido of all people. Shido's damn memes mean I cant take the direwolf seriously anymore. Help
... Lost my comment since YT is dumb for when you're using buttons to type and when to use commands like moving onto another page or something. ... FU- The most important points summarized... Nice we got to see both Cu's Tale of Woe as well as being crowned the new Hee to lead the other Hos. Xp While it's cool that Amelia thing is another transfer thing, I feel bad in the non-zero chance case of one player searching the ENITRE game to fulfill that man's request to tell her that, only for them to neither find it or realize it's a transfer thing AFTER the fact. Wait, why are we able to eat the guards since we're getting AP from them? Going off Sera's interactions with them they're robots right? Unless they're cyborgs, not sure why the team is eating them. The Ancient Cistern isn't just the best water dungeons, but also one of THE best dungeons in any Zelda game. That translation for Ragnarok is pretty funny from that guide. Certainly gets the silver medal for funny bad translations of that word; Nothing is beating "Kangaroo" however. In other news, made LOADS of progress into Vengeance since last time. Still in the game's third arc, but... Let's just say things have REALLY picked up and I'm liking most things at the moment. For my next session, besides just hopefully continuing the plot given what's happening at the moment, I'll also be doing some more special fusions and will be doing a sidequest to get an old favorite soon.
Always blows when something like that happens. It is interesting you can avoid fighting Cu in that sidequest by listening to him. I can see someone going through that. I guess the guards are some kind of humanoid in that case. They also remind me of the human enemies you can fight in Persona 1 as well. I liked what I saw of the Ancient Cistern as well. The boss was the main thing I remembered. Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles so causing the end of the world is probably a bit overkill. Good to hear about your progress especially considering how interesting it sounds as well. I wish you the best with more story progress and that special fusion as well. As for myself, I did conquer the Nürburgring 4 Hour Endurance and it was an easy win once again with the Suzuki proving a very good choice for those endurance races thanks to that lightweight and high mechanical grip. The prize we get is the Chaparral 2D and fittingly enough, it is car most famous for winning at the Nürburgring as it won the 1966 Nürburgring 1000 km. Another fun fact is that Chaparral wasn't present in the Japanese version of GT4 so they get the ABT Audi TT-R Touring Car for winning this endurance race instead. With that done, the next thing I need to do is the IA License which also houses one of GT4's most infamous tests in IA-15. With my brother, we did our third playthrough of Castle Crashers where I used an agility build that worked fine enough since the arrows could control the crowds of enemies quite well. My brother also finished his Three Houses randomizer and if you have seen my last community post, you know that things ended on a really weird note. Anyway, at Fort Merceus, we killed the Death Claude for good but at least he got to die in the arms of his brother Cyril. Next was Enbarr which ended in Yuri getting beaten in one turn since the game liked to crash on this map for some reason. Finally, Maiden out of desperation decided to transform into Hegemon Jeralt but that wasn't enough to stop the Kingdom and Dimitri from taking her down. We also get the endings were because of the random units, they read like really bad fan fictions. So now I am free of the chaos except not really as my brother started his next randomizer, this time with Engage, where Rosado is the main character, Kagetsu and Zelkov got butchered as the former replaces Vander so he isn't very strong and the latter was Lumera and we already know how things end for her. At least Lindon was a really good armour from the first group of units. Some of other weird things was Diamant replacing Abyme as the boss of that map but Chloe's ragtag group managed to stop him. Then was the Firene map where we find out Chloe's sibling is Amber and his retainers are Gregory and Citrinne. This is normally the map where you recruit Louis but he is now the boss of the map. Then my brother ended up fighting Alear two times in a row as a boss as Past Alear was the boss of the Firene Castle map and regular Alear was the boss of the fog of war. We also learnt that Sombron replaced Yunaka and he also looks horrendous when he engages. The paralogue maps weren't too special as the units we got weren't too impressive but Nelucce replacing Anna was quite funny. The bridge map featured Alcryst being replaced by Alcryst but he stole Alfred's class this time. We also got a dancer this map in Pinet who replaces Citrinne and Rafal is a decent mage as well as Lapis' replacement. Also Hortensia is replaced by Sean who also looks horrendous. The Brodia Castle also featured by brother getting a second dancer as Totchie replaced Diamant and we also find out Ivy is replaced by Lapis which is going to fill me with strange feelings. My brother also played the Fell Xenologue on his own time and it didn't sound too bad since green units are buffed with this randomizer so the Winds have increased stats which made beating the maps much easier. One final thing was I finished reading Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon and once again, this is a pretty good series since I found the fact that our two leading heroines were adults working an office job very interesting considering their perspectives and what was going through their minds. I also thought the series had a strong showing of low self esteem as well from our main character, Uno. My next series is also one focusing on the romance between our two leading heroines with this series being Bloom Into You.
@@BerserkerRohan That it does. Accursed site... Turns out when you're not forced to beat everything up in a RPG, a surprising amount can be resolved just by talking. lol They also kind of reminded me of the Messians from SMT1 with their more holy looks, but even if they're humanoid, I could have sworn they were robots because of Sera' interactions with them, so I'm still confused about the AP. Ancient Cistern's boss is a major highlight with how fun it is, but the rest of the dungeon is pretty great too. Overkill indeed. Many thanks. And good work with that 4 hour endurance race. Also how thematically appropriate the prize for beating it was (assuming these prizes are a bit random anyway). That's also odd with the change to the car in the JP version. Sounds like a reverse situation of anime needing to change the dub's music when going overseas in some places. Best of luck with the next license, especially if it truly sucks. Also good to hear about you finding something nicer to use in Castle Crashers. Oh crap, forgot to comment on that community post and how Maiden was sacrificed to bring about Ascended Jeralt T-Posing. Xp Jokes (mostly) aside, nice to hear your brother made it through that insanity. Claude's death sounded a bit sad since some do like to treat Cyril as a younger brother to him if they recruited him during a Golden Deer run. Also I see Yuri try to further prolong his lifespan by trying to force the game to crash for good before dying to LTC Strats. And thankfully Maiden's ritual to bring about Ascended Jeralt was stopped with us defeating him and everyone living happily after like that. ... Yep, my take on those events solidifies how this run was one big bad fan fic, so the endings also reading like those makes sense as well. Again, good to see your brother beat a randomizer... To only then jump into another one and the bout of insanity it'll cause. Time to see how this bad fan fic will go... So we start with Rosado as the Divine Retainer that 3/4 of the other non-royal Elyusian retainers have been defending to gather the Emblems to protect the world and other retainers. Sucks to see Zelkov suck in this run. Guessing Diamant became a disgraced prince and started working for Elyusia. Chloe and Amber being siblings in this universe makes too much sense. Also sucks seeing Louis fall to the dark side on this run. Alear took losing his main character privileges not well at all if there were two of him being evil in the world, but at least we got the rat b^^^ard (Nelucce) so that's funny whenever FE gives us those pricks. Yunaka being Bad Satan Dragon Parent is funny and could take darker spins later on. Alcryst said screw archery and is instead charging into battle on a horse. The two dancers mean the silliness of dancing trains can happen in this game. And Lapis replacing Ivy also works too well for some reason. So as we can see, we're on a crazy start for the insanity of this randomizer. Also nice to hear the Fell Xenolouge wasn't too bad and measures were taken to lessen the frustrations of it. And good to see you finish up another manga series already. Wished I had that kind of reading speed when it comes to books. Hope the next one will also be a good read for you.
@@jaredfayette2567 That is true for the most part but sometimes battling proves more profitable. They have to be some kind of organic robot in that case. I have only watched Skyward Sword but my brother did play it and I think it was one of my favourite dungeons. It is probably one of the coolest prize cars considering how fitting it is especially considering the 2D can also appear as an opponent for the next Nürburgring endurance. It is the second to last license so I do think the tests are going to be tricky. I do prefer focusing on magic but focusing on agility was more fun than I was expecting. Me and my brother went expecting the Hegemon to be completely replaced like that so that was an experience. Unlucky for Yuri considering how broken Twin Crests are alongside Stride and dancing but also Warp if my brother had a competent warper. It also reminds me that Jeralt could have been an interesting opponent on something like Crimson Flower for example. Three Houses gameplay also works quite well for a randomizer as chaotic as my brother's and it was fun to build up units and not know what to expect from them as well. Rosado is worth protecting in my eyes. This randomizer wasn't kind to Alear it seems. A lot of the NPC units don't have the best growths but it is funny to see them. Alcryst being randomized into Alcryst also makes too much sense as well. My brother won't be using two dancers together but it was funny to see that happen in back to back maps. Next time, I also get to find out what the units are like as well. The chapters aren't too long and some of these only go on for 20 chapters as well although Bloom Into You is a bit longer.

Vasuki is a funny boss to me. His AI being smart enough to use either Ice or Electric attacks feels like the game's way of telling the player "Put Cielo in your party" since he otherwise gives Heat and Gale a hard time with their weaknesses. You would think the GameFAQs guys would have figured that out but apparently not. Now Vasuki has a reputation for being really hard (he's not, at least IMO).
It’s really interesting that the normal battle theme In this game was meant to be a boss theme, that makes a specific track in the second game even better
Ah, I know what you're talking about...
38:08
"I think you might know what's coming."
A random encounter? Klingy, you're too kind!
That timing was... something. Thanks DDS.
2:03
Glad to see that Cu's tale of woe has some happy end
5:04
Huh. Makes me wonder if there's anything in the Karma Temple worth guarding. Although couldn't have people used items to fight the guards?
8:01
Helping others is what great protags do
14:40
Something a little funny.
22:47
I may have said this before but I find the normal battle theme kind of calming, so its a little odd to imagine it as a boss theme. Then again I find Big Battle calming in if I focus on the backing track(I hope I'm using the right term)
33:15
All 3 went into 1 mouth. Its probably an animation thing but that other mouth must be starving
35:27
Reminds me of Necrozma's Z-Move name in Japanese, but thats a super move of a legendary.
@@BigKlingy
5:04
Ah
35:27
That reminds me that the English name for Lunala's/Dawn Wing's Necrozma's Z-Move goes more over the top compared to the Japanese name, and what Solgaleo's/Dusk Mane Necrozma's English Translation, at least as an English speaker.
13:18 *Homelander has entered the chat*
16:44 A "cool" skill, you say?
I didn't know about that one. I'll have to check it out..
@@BigKlingy There's another thing that The Spider's Thread inspired: The Ancient Cistern dungeon from "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword".
@@corpussakahagi2116 I... literally mentioned that in the video.
And something spoilery in Danganronpa V3
1:42 It is funny seeing an NPC become a handsome human demon while all the playable characters are monstrous-- that's something that wouldn't happen nowadays.
22:00 Yeah, that's something I'd sorta picked up on during the LP but couldn't quite put my finger on; definitely wish more games did that.
1:42 Even weirder knowing they canonically still eat people.
22:00 This and Nocturne are some of the few I know of. And both are games that are near-constant random encounters, so this really, really helps. Heck, that I didn't notice for so long was a sign it was working.
Maybe Sera is the friends we made along the way
The final dungeon begins!
Good for cu
12:57 Elevator malfunctions are just... fun in fiction, I guess.
A few of the Demons do interesting things with their animations in these games. Recently I saw Kartikeya in DDS2 and he opens his peacock's tail feathers in a way you never see in Persona.
To be fair, Ragnarok is an Apocalypse in Mythology
True. I just find it funny for a normal enemy to have an attack called "End of the World".
8:35 America has a similar children’s story (which may be based on it) of a spider trying to climb up a water drain only to get flushed down by the rain.
There's also another one that's more Christian-based which some think Spider's Thread is based on. The "Fable of Orion" in The Brothers Karamazov.
Vasuki still has his canon role in Vengeance, but only if you choose the Canon of Creation (which is basically the original SMT V).
Oh right, that's what that song is called. I mainly remember it from The Meaning of Birth.
26:21 Speaking of Critical Role, they posted a video today that was rather sad. Specifically that Sam Riegal was away for a time battling tonsil cancer.
Oh no!
Like my annotation said, Google Translate getting that out of "Dis-Stun" is... okay then.
This games biggest plot hole is serph never usin his tribe for anything important
@8:12 this is a detail I really love about this theme, same as the Nocturne final dungeon as well as Tartarus
I forgot Nocturne's also did that. Most of Nocturne's dungeon themes are more ambient than the grand scores here, though.

37:05 That's unfortunate. I've had a few stores frustrate me with new policies too.
0:21 Not X. Just "Mystery Food."
1:30 An optional "not fight"?
34:54 Sadly Surt doesn't show up as an enemy in this game.
And hence shouldn’t be taken as an example of how to play a game/what’s good in a non Speedrun context, it’s like adding another difficulty to the game
With an JRPG Speedrun, as you said anyone who comes here in a Speedrun is going to be under-levelled, Which makes the game harder because they are playing a certain way not intended by the developers.
That feels kinda wrong
Vasuki was the first boss i fought in taito in smt V and i ended up just cheesing him with the rangda essence.
I like rakshasa a lot. Its design is cool and i jad a rakshasa that got a lot of magician cards in p4g and became really good because of it
The spider’s thread was also inspiration for the 2nd execution in Danaganronpa V3
Yeah it seems like it. Although I hate the DR executions.
8:19 the title of this song gives me persona q vibes. Like don't get me wrong it works in some sort of thematic way but again I am really getting persona q vibes it doesn't help that the colour scheme of the floors in this dungeon is a more greyish version of the purple used in the early floors of the clocktower.
13:50 insert bigklingy trying to understand what version of Asura is The SMT Asura based on joke here
This game predated Persona Q
8:19 Actually yeah, the colors are similar. And it's another big tower final dungeon.

43:32 It's so rare that you get to use Stone in RPGs. Only other instance that comes to mind is Live a Live's Deepest Dark. Basically required to defeat one of the superbosses of Oboromaru's chapter, since it's massive and drains the water terrain it loves to spam.
Spider's Web, heh well it is a thing also seen done in one of the Dungeon's in Skyward Sword and that was a really great Dungeon to; i not played SS myself but seen Chuggaaconory's LP on Skyward Sword

We are already at the final dungeon? I didn’t realize that this game is so short. Only Part 25 and we are already near the end? That’s crazy.
Yeah it's a pretty short game, though there'll be a few post-game bosses.
I found out abt that spider story from usogui

I'll probably do the sequel soon after. Especially since a lot of the plot doesn't make sense until then.
I've been having a blast with Daybreak at the moment, but I've run into an issue where I cant take a returning character seriously anymore that isnt the fault of the gaame. Minor character spoiler for a character reapparence btw

Walter was always voiced by Keith Silverstein, even in the Sky games, it's just that he's now voiced in story dialogue.
It's really cool that the Sky VAs reprise their roles THIS many games and years later.

Nice we got to see both Cu's Tale of Woe as well as being crowned the new Hee to lead the other Hos. Xp
While it's cool that Amelia thing is another transfer thing, I feel bad in the non-zero chance case of one player searching the ENITRE game to fulfill that man's request to tell her that, only for them to neither find it or realize it's a transfer thing AFTER the fact.
Turns out when you're not forced to beat everything up in a RPG, a surprising amount can be resolved just by talking. lol
They also kind of reminded me of the Messians from SMT1 with their more holy looks, but even if they're humanoid, I could have sworn they were robots because of Sera' interactions with them, so I'm still confused about the AP.

Now Vasuki has a reputation for being really hard (he's not, at least IMO).
lol I guess that is kind of a hint. But I like how this boss responds to you using shields.
