      @PhillipTheAssyrian  Год назад +3

      Thank you. It takes up alot of space but it’s worth It to me to be better organized. And best part is, the cabinet is enclosed so It keeps out majority of the elements out. Dust is the biggest one.
      I might put in some LED lights and a dehumidifier…
      If you do get one or you make your own. Would love to see the lay out…

    Like most folks I have an adequate supply of ammunition. What I did notice was the various calibers I had stored. What I’m currently doing to culling the stock so to speak. This means no longer owing a rifle or hand gun of every caliber. This has been very beneficial for several reasons. First, I now have more room to store the most useful ammunition I need. Second, I don’t have money invested in calibers I don’t need. Third, ammunition is easy to find at a glance. This works for me very well. It simplifies my life regarding guns and ammunition. Cheers!

    I acquired some heavy duty metal filing cabinets for a company that was converting all their files to digital. They are designed to hold a lot of weigh and I have set them up a separate drawer for each calibers.

    Nice bro. I have a similar setup. My home has an interior office that I turned into a safe. Climate controlled and humidity controlled. I dont have near the amount or variation. A few years back I sold all my firearms and consolidated calibers. 22lr shotgun 5.56 7.62x39 9mm 380
    300aac and 6.5 creedmore.
    One things i would suggest is to keep the type of ammunition the same. If you have 100000 22lr but everytime you use a different manufacturer you will need to re zero the rifle. So i keep all my ammo the same other than that I love it man. Takes alot of time and effort but feels great to see it all stacked neatly.
    I did go down the magazine rabbit hole a few years back as well. So alot of mine I have in magazines. Always hated going to shoot and taking one mag and having to reload outside.

    • @PhillipTheAssyrian
      @PhillipTheAssyrian  Год назад +3

      I appreciate It. I try to keep the same ammo as much as I can. But I thought a lot of It back when the ammo storage hit in 2012 when It was so dang hard to find so trying to through 1000k of 22lr is a little bit hard lol
      Yeah all this was stuffed in my tiny safe.

    A warning about silica packs. They will draw the moisture out of the cartridges when sealed up with them. Not good, as powder comes from the factory with 40-50% humidity in single base, and 50-60% humidity in the double base powders. When the reloading manuals give a powder charge weight it is with the moisture include in the weight. So it is with the factory ammo as well. If one dries the powder out, the rounds will be hotter than originally planned. In maximum (especially +P and +P+) loads it can become dangerous. And yes moisture can seep into a loaded round, as well as back out again depending on the humidity level out side the cartridge if given a month or so, unless one seals the round with sealant. Hence it is best to store ammo, powder, and primers in a controlled environment of say 49-58% humidity. This can be done within the sealed ammo cans by putting a Boveda 49% or 58% Two-Way Humidity Control Pack. Or one could store them in a Cigar Humidor cabinet that is both Humidity and temperature controlled.

    Great Idea. May want to plastic wrap them. I'm Near Wickenburg no AC just swamp cooler. The 60-70 percent humidity that the swamp cooler puts out destroys the ammo in one summer if it is not wrapped up. Then I put ammo in sealed ammo cans. Hopefully the monsoon season will be nice this winter but I seriously doubt it.

Luckily your in AZ so it’s not a ton of moisture, but humidity and moisture kills ammo. As much as I would like to have a set up like that. I keep my ammo dry and sealed in military metal cans, it’s the only way to ensure they last as long as they should.

    Unfortunately you are missing something. Large scale ammo storage "cabinets" are supposed to be VENTED - so that if the ammo cooks off during a fire the gases may be expelled. Otherwise, your ammo safe could become an ammo bomb. Anonymously, check with your local zoning office, or fire department. Or, gun shop(s), as they are inspected for compliance and can advise you.
