In my seven decades on this planet there are only a handful of artists that have impressed me with true genius. I haven’t paid much attention to country music and pop and though I’d heard various things about Taylor Swift I only recently explored her music (the recent stuff) in a serious way. She’s clearly hit her stride as a songwriter/performer. Her live SNL performance of the long version of All Too Well blew me away. It reminded me of hearing Like a Rolling Stone for the first time. She’s relatively young and has years to go, but I’m already placing her career potential up there with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carole King etc. - the ones whose music will pass the test of time.

Agreed. When I first heard her being promoted, I didn't know any of her music and assumed she was the flavor of the day. I couldn't name a single song of hers. Then I saw her do "Mean" on an awards show and said, "Who is that? She really knows how to perform and that song is very clever." When I learned it was Taylro Swift, I thought, "Hmm...maybe there's real talent there." Saw the Kanye thing and thought he was a tool to bother such a young person with his nonsense. Didn't pay attention again to her music for years but was hearing her stand up for all the right issues time and time again. People despised her and I thought, "Why? Cuz she's on the right side of these issues." Then I worked in the music industry and was impressed by how what she was doing was helping many other artists. Then I made a point of looking up her old music videos. Cleverly done. Fun stuff - but very pop focused. THEN she came out with the folk albums and OMG - TOTAL GENIUS! She incrementally won my respect and I think she's only going to continue to get better with age. She's very talented and very smart...and very successful as a result. I hope she takes a few years to have the personal life she deserves and then drops an album once in a blue moon that continues to show her growth and dazzles us all. I'm officially on Team Taylor.
Reading this after her announcement of a surprise brand new album for Oct 21 2022. She’s a genius and truly loves the process. It shows in her songs. I wasn’t alive for the entire journey of any icon thus far and I feel honored that I’m alive to hear Taylor’s songs from the start.

I’m a huge fan of some of Bob Dylan’s work. This live performance reminded me of a lot of his style; her lyrics and delivery are what elevate this song and many others to another level. Bob Dylan won the prize in literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” And I think it goes even more so for Taylor. I hope she and her work transcend the pop culture, entertainment, and music industry in a lasting and historical way, because she definitely deserves that.

This is why Taylor Swift keeps being successful, she can go back to her roots and play with only her guitar, but at the same time, having the most acclaimed and awarded pop album from the last decade.
The fact that the country community still has this mad love and respect for her, makes me happy and sentimental. She was thought by this people, she mastered her craft alongside the big names in the genre.
Is also refreshing to know - for me, and I am sure to her too - that she can go anywhere she wants to, even her home.
Hands down, an amazing and comforting performance in such difficult times.

A young woman I work with just went to Ms. Swift's concert in Las Vegas and, curious about all the attention her "Eras Tour" is receiving -- led me to wikipedia, and then here. And there haven't been many musicians who can sit alone on a stage, with just a guitar and their voice, and bring tears to the eyes of someone who knows almost nothing about them. Aaron Dessner, who co-wrote & co-produced many of the songs on the "Folklore" album, described Ms. Swift as a "savant." I think he's probably right...she's in the category with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Elton John -- and people like that. All you need to do, if you're old (like me), and have listened to a ton of classical, jazz, rock 'n roll, et al. over many decades -- is watch (and listen!) to just a handful of Ms. Swift's RUclips videos...and you "get it." Like those other artists mentioned above, I guess you'd have to call her a musical genius.

You know, even if you’re not a TS fan, you absolutely must respect the woman, artist and business woman she is. She’s held herself together EXTRAORDINARILY well despite her tremendous success at a very young age, is a mesmerizing story-teller, plays the guitar and sings beautifully and is getting better/stronger with her craft with every album she makes. I personally am a huge TS fan but, even if you aren’t, respect is most certainly due.

For me, Taylor Swift reached the pinnacle of her artistic power with the folklore/evermore duo. Everything about these two albums is perfect, and I think that's because it was done so unpretentiously, for the only purpose of storytelling and exploring her songwriting skills. Masterpieces.

I’m so happy to see Taylor just sitting there enjoying her moment. Even though she’s had so many ... to me she looks at peace. I saw her in concert at Gillette stadium in 2015. The experience was AMAZING! Like seriously the most memorable experience in my life and I’m 42! She’s gone through some honest life changes within herself in the past few years. I think here she just stripped down to her bare bones and let her heart pour out into folklore and it’s magical 💛

Her ability to weave a story within and between songs is masterful. It’s performances like this where she stands out from other pop artists because she writes her own music. The connection you hear is something that is honestly, pretty country. Those country roots are what has helped her to become the success that she is. Her ability to connect and hold an audience are next level. I’m so glad that she has gone back to her roots to bring back these storytelling songs. Her voice doesn’t distract from the message she is trying to convey, which is also something that makes her relatable.
Very well said! Although in my opinion she never lost her storytelling ways. Every one of her pop albums has brilliant songs in which she takes you with her to a different place, such as All Too Well & Begin Again- Red, Blank Space & Clean - 1989, Get Away Car & New Year's Day - reputation, and Cornelia Street & Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince - Lover.

That's been developing the last two years, look at how TS stands now, back straight, head up, shoulders back, comes from kicking the stress out of her life, and getting a better deal from a supportive record company.
