🕊️GUESS WHAT? Jesus Loves You & So Do I!
Hi Mary! I, too, was doing the buffing technique a long time ago (before the internet). I accidentally learned and discovered it because of overdoing it with blush. I took my pressed powder and went in. It’s funny because I didn’t love the foundation and was going to wash it all off but didn’t have time and needed to go do a trial on a bride. I had nothing to lose, and if it went bad, go without makeup. Well, I ended up using the technique on the bride. I’ve been using it since then. Also, I still miss waking up,having my coffee to a new Mel video. I go back to watch her videos quite often. I miss chatting with her about working in retail. We both shared many stories. RIP, Mel!❤
Oh I love that...thank you for sharing it with me. I miss her so badly but I've finally stopped reaching for my phone to tell her something and then remembering. I have more good days where I can smile about her than cry about her. What a beautiful person she was!
When I was modeling, we were taught the 'powder through a tissue' trick, but we separated the two layers of the tissue and only powdered through a single layer. It made a difference.
Thank you and yes that would work better wouldn't it? I'm so lazy LOL
I love Lancôme cils booster lash primer. It’s an absolute necessity to get the best performance from any mascara. One thing I learned from sweet Mel was to put mascara on the top of your lashes as well as underneath, to make them look fuller. Another Mel tip is after applying eye shadow primer, take a bone color powder eyeshadow on a brush and make an invisible border at the outer edge of where you want your eyeshadow to go. (Imagine an angle from the outer corner of your eye to the tail of your brow.). That makes it easier to apply shadow and get the shape that you want! ❤
Excellent Deborah!
I have a mascara hack. I’ve put my near the end of use mascara and warm the tube up in a cup of hot water to liquify for a few more uses.
Oh thank you!
I’ve heard to put it in your bra or between your legs while applying makeup, until ready to use it. I can’t remember to try that!
I have put 1 or 2 drops of face serum into a dried mascara and it lasted for another 2 months!!!
Great tips, Mary. Thank you.
Here's my tip: The very last thing I do when putting on my mascara is to use Maybelline's mascara in the pink and green tube on the tips of my lashes in a generous amount. It's a very liquid mascara, so it doesn't clump and the tips of my lashes are more visible with it on.
xo~linda
That is a great tip...I do that too but never have tried it with that mascara!
Those are great tips. I have learned so much from you. And so much from watching RUclips. One that I would add if it’s ok is I put a single layer of gauze around my Velcro roller. The roller still grabs, but not as much as without the gauze so it doesn’t tear my delicate hair. Love you Mary and thank you.
That's a great idea…I think I heard that from you on your channel too maybe? You know more than anybody I know about that! Love you too!!
The loaded brush and puff tip is completely new to me! Thats awesome! Loving that plum shirt on you!
Thank you so much Stephanie!
What wonderful tips and tricks you were showing. The concealer tip is great and I will try it tomorrow. Unfortunately, the only tips I know are the ones you and MaryEllen give. 😊❤
Thank you Bonnie...love you!
Loved the tips! Just watched the bloopers... if you DO drop your eyeshadow (blush, bronzer, etc.) and if breaks inside the pan, break it up finely in a bowl, add rubbing alcohol, and use a paper towel to press it back into your pan. Let it dry; good as new!
You betcha...in fact one of the Lancome shadows that I showed on my channel I cut out of the video to shorten the video that I had done just that 9 years ago and it was still going strong! Great tip!
At the risk of sounding nerdy…RE: upside down cream eye shadow storage: evaporation rises. If the pot is upright, the evaporated moisture (now a gas) rises into the air pocket of the container and slowly escapes. If the container is upside down, evaporation is slowed and the product won’t lose its moisture as rapidly. 💕
I love nerdy...thank you for that great explanation!!
@@GlitzyFritzyThank you for the great tips!
Mary, that old blot-and-re-apply lipstick trick is the way I was taught to apply lipstick for stage, except for one thing: after you blot the first application, powder your lips before applying the second coat, for lipstick that will last through an entire sweaty stage show!! I've never eaten with powder on my lips, and I probably wouldn't. Stage etiquette says you must not eat while wearing your costume and makeup, and if you drink anything it has to be through a straw. [If there's an eating/drinking scene in the show, it's usually faked.]
Love it! Thanks for sharing it!
Hey Mary! I hadn’t heard about the loaded brush. One tip I don’t think I’ve heard anywhere is, I load a covered lip brush with lipstick & stick it in my purse. It’s so handy when you need a quick touch up and don’t always want to pull out your lipstick. Plus you can fill in without a mirror if necessary!
Glad to see you today and enjoyed the video, as always! 🤗🙏🥰
What a great tip...I have a Clinique lip brush that has a cover that I could do that too girl...loaded puff...loaded brush!
Mary I totally am of the age that did the pin /needle trick for separating my lashes ! I also remember putting a lighter to my black liner to get it to work better! So glad liners of today work so much better now!
😂 I did that too! They still sell that liner!
I still grab for something sharp these days to separate my lashes when they clump. But never when I am in a hurry! 😮
I need to invest in a mascara comb!
Me too!!
I love my heated lash curler.
Me too...when it's charged LOL
Hi Mary,
Thanks for all the great tips!
Great video! I will be microwaving my sponges from now on. Love and Kindness, Teresa
Thank you so much Teresa!
I had to laugh when you were talking about using the straight pin to separate the lashes. I don't know how many times I used to do that. I would also coat my eyelashes with Coty Airspun powder before mascara. Its a wonder I can even see now.😂
Oh YES I forgot about that...using the powder is excellent. I use to do that toward the beginning of my channel and noticed it when I would sometimes just use paint pot and then powder my lids that the mascara looked better when powder was in my lashes LOL Thanks Laurie
HAHAHA the good old needle to separate the lashes! We did thid in high school! The Hollywood way of putting on lipstick? Yes...learned it from my Mom. It is true that new fads happening now we also did in one way or fashion. Lining your mobile lid with 2-3 different colors? Yes Ma'am - that was our Cleopatra eye. Straightening your frizzy hair with a flat iron? Sure!...but I did mine with my Mom's iron...ON the ironing board, but made sure to cover the length of hair I was ironing with paper.
🎵Memories🎵
OMG OMG OMG I remember using the clothes iron on my hair too LOL yea!
Oh I miss Mel so much. I know she’s in a much better place than we are but I do miss her. I just wonder how’d she feel about all the new products and things that have come out. I miss her sweet face and beautiful smile. Thank you Mary! Love in Christ, Steph.
Meeeee too Steph, but I know you already know that!
Ooh! Too late to watch tonight. Tomorrow!
I have to say, I love your glasses ...when we wear glasses and also want to wear make-up, I think we have to be aware how much the frames impact on our look. I have to admit, I 99.9% use my contact lenses if I'm wearing make-up, and if I'm having a day off, I wear my glasses....but I love the glasses you have on.. (and I have a pair similar) and you can still see the make-up and Shadow...its not completely obscured 👍👍👍
Thank you so much Lynette!
I have a tip for everyone. I put on my concealer wherever it’s needed, let that sit for five minutes, and then I use a setting spray (Laura Geller) let that sit for five minutes, then I apply my foundation and then lightly set with powder. Works perfect every time. Thanks for the sponge tip Mary, I need to microwave my cheap sponges too.
when you say let it sit...do you mean before blending or after? Probably after but I'm trying to do less "assuming" LOL
@@GlitzyFritzy I blend it, then let it sit for a bit. It just works for my skin type, I get oily on my nose.
Oh me gosh gal...you DID teach this ole dawg a new trick! I love the trick to sponge on setting spray over concealer under the eyes! Dang!❤ I brush on castor oil on my brows and they are growing in. Cheaper and safer than drugstore chemicals. : )
Your eye makeup today is ON POINT Mary!
Thanks Kathy. I’ve been hearing about castor oil. So glad to know someone in this FAM-ily has tried it!
I remember separating my eyelashes with a needle. I used to wear so much mascara was incredible. I also remember taking a match to my Maybelline, black eyeliner, pencil, melting it and putting it on the inner rim. 69 years old so I’m older than you and those things were popular back, then along with wearing white frosted lipstickby Yardley. I still miss Yardley cosmetics. They were one of my favorites.
No way I taught YOU something! Hey you know what I use to use Castor oil on my lashes back long time ago and it's a great conditioner!! I think it's great and I might bring it back in to help "thicken" up my lashes and brows. I use to do that all the time and totally forget once I started the lash serum! I mean I'm not letting that serum go but maybe I will bring castor oil back
She's not wrong...I use to use it too @@lisapierce525
LOL oh yes the bic lighter to the red maybelline eyeliner LOL @@catmama54
Good morning 🌞 Mary
You and MaryEllen are my favorites. I love your personalities. 💖 Jan
Oh thank you!
Great tips!!!!! Mary. Many I did not know of(loading the brush, setting spray on the damp sponge, etc). I'm taking notes. Lol. Never too old to learn new things 😅😅😅 . This was fun too. I did do that pin thing with the eye lashes. 🤪 😜 it's amazing I'm still alive. Lol. Thank you!!!! Will try some. Have a wonderful week ahead ❤❤❤😊
Cracks me up...think of all the things we have done and survived LOL Love you!
Love the mascara hacks! More tips and tricks, please. Have a blessed week, Mary.
Thank you Deb!
Thanks Mary for sharing all the tips and tricks... God bless
You are the best, my beautiful friend!!! So, so smart to load your brush with powder. Love you...ME
Love you!
Hi Mary! I like the setting spray under the eye idea! That's a great one.
Eyelash serums are great. I've been using RevitaLash for years. I used prescription Latisse, and it wasn't as good.
Doesn't powder on your lips dry them out? I can't take lip plumpers. Ouch.
Love the eyeshadow fallout technique.
The one tip that I can think of that I do, is store your Vitamin C serum in the refrigerator. It keeps longer.
Thanks so much, Mary. Have a great week. Love you. ❤🫂😘
Oh you are right...it sure does thank you Rene!
I use the Timeless Vitamin C with ferulic acid. It's never changed to yellow on me, and perhaps it's because it's refrigerated! Now, I would be putting retinol or retinoids in the refrigerator nor should they be kept in a steamy bathroom. They would be broken down and not as effective. ❤❤@GlitzyFritzy
Hi Mary, l love doing the buffing and blending alot too, hugsssss ❤❤❤
it's a great technique!
Good afternoon!! I learn something new everyday!! Blessings ❤️
🤗🤗
Two more tips for stopping lipstick from bleeding into lip wrinkles: 1) Trace the outline of the lips with either a concealer stick (Jones Road works great) or a drier pot concealer (like Nars) in a shade that matches your skin color, tap it to blend out the color and then use an eyeshadow brush to trace the area with a thin coat of powder. Then use your lip liner, lipstick, etc as you normally would. 2) Use a blonde or light brown eyebrow pencil as a lip liner. The drier formula doesn't bleed, and also stops lipstick from bleeding.
Excellent THANK YOU!
Love the microwave tip. Another great video.
Thank you Kim!
Loading the brushes makes sense....I accidently ran into that one day when I was lazy and didn't want to get out my powder...just used it the second day and it work! knew about the sponge cleaning by using a microwave, but gosh, I think I'm lazy, because I haven't done it in years...going have to get off my bahootie and do it again:) Mary it was fun to see your video come again this a.m. May the Lord bless your socks off:):)
Thank you so much Trishanne...you know I want the same for you!
I am 100% going to try the setting spray trick with my concealer! Genius!
Hope you like it!
Oh.. I saw a lot of tips for mascara, and I'd like to add one. If its dried out too much put 1 or 2 drops only, of face serum in there and mix around, best to sit over night, but I did this and got 2 more Months of use out of it!!!! If you put too much in, it goes too goopy...so dont go more than 2 drops. 👍👍👍
Thank you!
I love midnight blue. A nice one I have not found. ❤❤❤xxx
I don't know about the new Sapphire one from GXVE but you know I love their formula so maybe that one is?
Thank you Mary. Hum how do I not know about buffing, oh Lordy. Some good tips and tricks, I couldn’t tell what you used around the lips to stop the feathering.
Well I've not tried the paint pot trick yet but I make sure I'm using a lip liner that is not too creamy. Creamy lip liners just go right up in my lip lines and look messy so I prefer something like Laura Mercier, Lancome...the Makeup By Mario is good too
Ooo, using the paint pot to Line the lips. I hope that helps. Lol I remember not pumping the mascara. Love using eye masks. This is a great one, Mary!!! Very helpful!! Love you XOXO
Thank you my sweet friend!
Hi Mary, great tips. I love setting my concealer with setting spray but only ones with no alcohol in it. Great video. Have a great week. Hugs, xoxo
Very good point Clara since alcohol would tend to make it look too dry!
I never heard of loading up brushes! That is wild!!!! 😂❤
Really? Love it! I'm not silly LOL
@GlitzyFritzy never heard of it and I don't think you're silly!
I have NOOOOO idea why that "I'm not silly is on there!!" LOL hilarious! OMG maybe I typed something somebody said while I was replying? LOL
@@GlitzyFritzy probably Siri!
The second time I used & washed a hank & Henry sponge… destroyed it. The actual beauty blender lasted less than a week. I have a big plastic angle entry candy jar stock full of makeup sponges I bought from Walmart during Christmas for $1 & a 4 sponge set from Burke’s/Bealle’s ($3.99)… and those are my holy grail, won’t go without. They are very soft, and last longer than I want them to. I toss them by three months… unscathed.
That's interesting...where do you get those at? I don't think I've ever heard of those
I've only ever seen the $1 sponges at walmart during Christmas in their Christmas aisle, in the stocking stuffer area... I stock UP at that time. The large plastic old fashioned candy jar, I bought from dollar tree. I bought several and keep sponges in one, lip balms/scrubs/etc in another. They make great "visual" storage.
The $4 sponges are from Burke's/Bealle's, I've never found them on their website, only in store and they come in a clear plastic container with a snap lid. I ran and looked, and thankfully, I hadn't tossed the last container my burke sponges came in... the brand is Mayim (if I'm reading that tiny writing correctly), latex free, 4 piece set and it's $4.99 not $3.99 (got the price wrong lol)... they have other brands on the website, but I haven't tried them, so can't say if they are good or bad. I did buy the lemon shaped ones (more for cute factor), but haven't tried them yet. @@GlitzyFritzy
Hi Mary, totally off subject, your hair looks like youre growing it out, its real cute. Im in the process of growing out my pixie, im hoping for a long bob in my future. Lol.
Me too Cindy...hoping I don't get to that point where I get ticked off and cut it back off. I just want to see if I'll like it longer. Thank you for noticing and your encouraging words!
Awesome video, Mary! Please do this again. How's Shy Guy? Praying for you two
Thank you so much Sherry...we so appreciate that!
Great tips! I will be doing the sponge microwave tip !
Hope you like it!
Great Beauty hacks and tips❤️🌺
Thank you so much!
I've been "loading" and buffing forever too! Mary this was fun and nostalgic and informative, thank you. I use a baked foundation and like to aim my blow dryer, on low temp and speed, at my face. I think it helps everything get melded together. I can also check to see if there are any meltdowns and fix it. 💖
Most excellent Tamara...need to try that!
I so excited to watch this video to learn something new from you. I learned from you just recently that I could use a sponge to press my powder over my foundation even though I have dry skin and it works on me but my skin needs to be really hydrated. I learned all about buffing as the last step from Mel, I even ordered that Sonia G buffer brush that she used, I have 2 of them, sweet Mel, I still go back and watch some of her videos when I’m looking for something in particular. Oh oh, I just bought that paint pot, I’d better go turn it upside down. I hate my lipstick feathering out especially if I put a gloss over a matte lipstick, did that today and when I looked in the mirror, I looked like the Joker, no kidding. Trying that paint pot lining the lips tomorrow. I always thought tight lining was the lash line, not the upper lid waterline, learned something else new. I’m putting my washed sponges in the microwave and see what happens. I only keep 3 sponges in rotation but I wash the one I’m using after each use.❤❤❤
I wash everything after using too...it's a great practice Bea :)
Hi Mary, you look lovely as usual. I thought I was the only one that used a straight pin to separate my lashes and yes one day I poked my eye, talk about a watering eye yikes, that was the last time I did that little trick. Yes I did the no no too when I was young and pulled out 9/10 of my lashes on one eye. It took 4 months to grow back. What mascaras wont flake off at the rim of the eyelash curler? I will be careful I promise. Your spoiling us with content almost back to back. I hope your up coming week goes well. God bless you and yours.
Thank you so much! I think somewhere on my channel I said that I did that same thing! In the Ponderosa bathroom on break at age 15! AND YET at 62 I'm still doing that LOL
Hallo Mary, so many great tips! I use the ordinary brow and lash serum at start of on skincare then before I go to sleep I use cosmetic grade pure caster oil on lashes and brows. I exfoliate my lips too! And I use kokie lip primer. Loved this shared with my sister and bestie.
I use to use castor oil and had forgotten all about it...such a great conditioner! I've been wondering about the ordinary lash serum!
@@GlitzyFritzyI have been pleased with the outcome. Due to health and uneasy about ingredients of other ones I avoid them. But my brows did improve using the ordinary but it is not an over night thing
@@GlitzyFritzy I tried it and it made my eyelashes fall out like crazy. I used it on my brows for awhile but couldn’t tell a difference. Just be careful
OMG your lashes fell out using castor oil, the ordinary or grande?
@@GlitzyFritzy the Ordinary
I love this video! Great tips and tricks!
Thank you Kim!
Thank you! xx
Thank YOU!
I definitely did the baby pin lashes separation thing..along with tons of black pencil eye liner..im glad I have so many different brands & types of mascara to choose from now.. 2000s mascara that I could buy with my hoarded birthday money at the kmart was awful..lol I had panda eyes & crunchy lashes lol I need help with dark spots & marks on my face..idk why but the past few months my skin has lost its mind & its the worst it's ever been including teenage years..
Oh no...but let me encourage you Amanda that I think we all go through this. I certainly have days that I'm definitely worse than others!
I actually learned a few things from this. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you!
I loved this Mary. You can never have too many tips! I have been looking for a dark blue eyeliner most of the day today. Can you let me know which one you showed in this video ?Thanks so much. Oh...I have that lash curler and love it.
The one that I used in this video was Laura Mercier Caviar in Midnight blue but my FAVORITE because for me anyway I don't have to reapply is by GXVE! I especially love Bathwater HOWEVER bathwater is a color that you will definitely know is blue because it's like a cobalt blue but they do have an addition that is dark of which I've not had a chance to use yet and it's sapphire! go.shopmy.us/p-4247875
@@GlitzyFritzy Thanks for all of the info! Everything I looked at was too bright or not a brand that I trusted to produce quality pigment.🥰
Ive learned alotfrom you and many others! Ty Mary!!😂😂

Thank you so much Annette!
One of my bffs in high school would separate her lashes with the sharp safety pin! It drove me crazy bc it took her so long! I think she still does it! I’m too impatient! I’ll swipe over mine with a disposable spoolie but that’s about it! 🤣
😂
Great tips Mary! Some of these I haven't heard before. What liner do you use to tight line that will not transfer? Mine either ends up on my water line or under my eyes
