Coolant itself isn't always the issue for overheating. In a lot of causes it can be caused by a faulty thermostat stuck closed, which is supposed to open once at operating temperatures to let coolant recirculate through the engine and dissipate heat via the radiator. Saying that though, there's a number of factors involved as to what can cause overheating, but chances are a bus it's age it would need a lot of parts renewed soon.
+michael jagger That's the strange thing about these DAF deckers, revving it did actually cool it down. I think it gets the fan working harder so it does cool down believe it or not, I was baffled myself at first
The water pump is running faster without any load on the engine, it works with the D10-160 engined Ikarus 256.44 on OMSI 2 when that overheats every five minutes.
+Trevor Dawson Y reg so yeah it's getting a bit old now haha (2001). Especially by Belmont's standards as these deckers are now the oldest vehicles in service at the depot, and they're on the road every single day
+Trevor Dawson I would say they're good buses if looked after but even with the best treatment old DAF's can be a pain in the backside at times. The Prestiges for example were famous for deciding when they wanted to work and when they didn't haha. Problem is with these old girls is that they've not even seen a respray or new moquette in their almost 15 years of service. Never mind a mechanical overhaul haha
Ive heard about Arriva North East fitters they aren't very helpfil. I watched a clip of J413NCP DAF SB220 Ikarus that had brokedown. It wouldn't start as the driver said it ran out of diesel he's on the phone to the fitter whilst trying to start it and is saying its out of diesel and the fuel gauge is on empty the fitter didn't believe him.
Haha it wasn't thrashed that much, he was a very good driver, it's just the way the route is, they put slow 3 speed deckers on routes with some steep hills and lots of flat out bits. So you have to put your foot down a bit to get any form of speed out of these old DAF's (especially 7444) strange thing is is that they put these deckers on routes such as this in the first place, where at peak times there's only about 20 people.
+NorthEastbuses01 Yeah DAF overheats too quickly. (Sorry for my late reply) i overheated a DAF truck and i blew the engine and melted the Turbo. Because i had to kickdown it in order to accelerate and arrive just intime for the flowerauction.
The Cummins engine makes them more bearable to travel on, the increased power makes up slightly for the fact that I hate Solo's with a passion, but as a driver said to me "it doesn't matter what engine it's got in it, it's still a Solo, it's still shite" haha
We have solos here at NCT with the Cummins engines they absolutely fly but the voith gearboxes they fitted in them give nothing but issues. I hate driving the bloody things.
olivereltoro They still use Solo's regularly but they've always been mixed with double deckers or the occasional Dart, but I despise the Solo's, the most gutless, ugly pieces of rubbish Arriva have ever bought, the only good thing about them is that the ride is decent for something with such little wheels haha
what is the public transport in the UK old fashioned. In the Netherlands we have new citaro's. if there is an accident or broke down. There is a computer system wich send the location(gps based also for the busstops information screens) and the problem to the centre or the busdriver calls through the system.
I could already tell it was overheating with outreading the description as the coolant spray way spraying more frequently than usual
And the speed it was going
If I was the driver I would abandon the bus and go find coolant 😂

I can definitely hear it overheating and the bus is definitely in trouble getting up the hill
How does revving the engine to max rpm cool it down? That would push the temp up. A fitter should have come out and topped it up with coolant.

Yeah, aren't the fans beltdriven by the engines?

Here we have buses from 1995
i really like the screaming on those buses
I can hear the alarm going off on the bus possibly telling the bus driver to stop
I'm guessing from "5:25*, that this bus had performed to iin limp mode.
The seats are solid
it must be old now ive been on that bus
+Trevor Dawson Y reg so yeah it's getting a bit old now haha (2001). Especially by Belmont's standards as these deckers are now the oldest vehicles in service at the depot, and they're on the road every single day
+NorthEastbuses01 2001 ha the sb220 is like nearly 20 years old and this bus can't even survive
that bus used to go passed my rote x21 Newcastle to Newbiggin by the sea

Typical DAF when thrashed to much :P

True i like the solo's with cummins 6 cylinder engine they fly

Why where there suddenly loads of people on
Great vidio,Great chance to film it!
What country is this bus from?
Looks like the lovely Urban seats...
Great video this! Seemed like this example is a 4 speed if I listen correctly ? could be me though haha
Seems like you're right :)
Definitely a 4-speed Voith this bus is.
Poor things as we all know their life's are coming to an end and hopefully they will leave a big gap in the bus industry.
I don't mind the majority of these old DAF deckers, it's only 7444 that should have been scrapped about 5 years ago haha, the rest aren't too bad :)
What route was this it looked like the 56
It certainly was, good local knowledge you have there, I really don't understand why they put these old deckers on the 56, no one uses it
I know they should use Optare Solo's Like they used to.
olivereltoro They still use Solo's regularly but they've always been mixed with double deckers or the occasional Dart, but I despise the Solo's, the most gutless, ugly pieces of rubbish Arriva have ever bought, the only good thing about them is that the ride is decent for something with such little wheels haha
