What would you want in your dream yarn shop?

LionBrandYarn My dream yarn place is exactly what she described, a healing place. I learned as a child from my Grandmother. I started back under the instruction of my grief counselor, my Mom passed away January 2018. She told me to find something we did together and crochet was it. It brought me peace and made me feel close to her by bringing back memories. I started an accidental business... LOL
Thanks for sharing!! Can't wait to see the next one.

A place where I can feel comfortable going there. An owner that treats the customers as family or friends, people that are welcoming to foreigners. Comfy chairs, good coffee, a place to sit and knit or crochet for hours. A community

If I had a dream yarn shop, I would want a section of handmade items for sale on consignment. There are people out there who do amazing things with yarn, and I would want to showcase their work, making it available to the public for purchase.

Congratulations on achieving your dream. Your shop is beautiful. My dream shop would include a book section with not just “how to” books but also lots of knitting fiction. There’s so many knitting novels. It might be fun to have a monthly read and a project based on something knitted in the story.

You have my heart all tied up, with your String Thing Shop!!! (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one). Congratulations on such a lovely space and business. If I had a dream of opening a yarn shop, I can imagine that your shop would be my dream realized. Suggestions: Offer various yarn/string craft learning series OR themed craft workshops in which they conclude with an actual finished product. Perhaps with a multi-generational classes but especially by age-group series (elementary kids, teens, seniors, holiday).

I wish I had a yarn shop near me that sounded this inviting! That is what would be important to me....a place where you feel comfortable enough to ask questions of someone when you are stuck with a question. I also crochet and not knit. I would like to learn to knit someday.

My mom, a single mother of 4 children with a degree in 'data processing', moved to Arizona in 1971. She couldn't get a job in her field -- discrimination against women the likely reason. She got a job in a yarn shop in Phoenix, selling the benefits of different yarns for different projects, teaching all the fiber arts, and displaying her creations in the shop window. Eventually my mom was hired into her field of study, but her skills with needles, hooks, and yarn carried her through that tough time. My ideal yarn shop would have a space dedicated to the display of a customer's marvelous creation to both inspire & motivate others to learn & excel in the yarn arts. It would also have a community outreach program: seeking community grants to take the fiber arts into elementary schools, to addiction treatment and other rehabilitation centers, and other such places where people are hurting in body, mind or spirit. My mom, now 87 years old, has a crippling genetically-carried hand disorder called dupetrans contracture. She can no longer knit or crochet, but she's still encouraging others to use the yarn she so loves!
