I was going through videos for the last 3 days. Yours was the only one that got my bike back to running. Thank you so much saved me a TON and got me riding again with this beautiful weather
You are a saint. Thank you for sharing this and saving many people many hours of frustration. :) I may be one of them lol. My bike wouldn't start this morning, had to drive the truck to work. I didn't get far into testing but first thing I checked is the battery and it's good. I suspect this is the issue because of how it happened, I was turning over then stopped. In hindsight, my ignition has been acting kind of finicky, sometimes working and sometimes not and cutting out. I'm looking forward to trying this today when I get home!
I usually don't do this but I feel like I must thank you and appreciate you pulling my head out of my ass to realize that it was just my starter button... I was thinking it was my starter relay solenoid or melted wire somewhere... Little did I know it was just a smashed fly preventing proper connectivity
I realize now that the starter button used to have a metal on metal feel..and one day trying to figure it out I realized that the starter button felt gummy and that was unusual... Then I saw this video and just kind of connected the dots and sure enough it was a bug smashed between the metal surfaces
Great video. I just purchased a 2000 yammy vstar 1100, first bike. Lots of learning to do. It won't start since yesterday, sounds like she wants to turn but just doesn't.
Awesome video! I’m getting ready to work on a bike Wednesday. With the key in the “on” position, the lights come on and all switches and horn work. I didn’t believe I heard the fuel pump come on. I was thinking, while he was talking, I’m going to start on the kill switch then the kick stand. But after watching your video, I’m sure I’ll find a issue in that kill switch. Thank you again.
My 02 650 has had an issue for a while of needing the button pressed a couple times. I considered it a theft feature until last night it died while riding 😂 I came looking for a fix or replacement, and all I should need is a screwdriver and sandpaper. Thanks for the vid :)
I've suggested this fix dozens of times to guys with the same problem. Plus in the preceding video I noticed you wired the start cable up in reverse, while it works on the aftermarket unit, I don't think it will work correctly on the OEM start relay, but I never tried it to find out. The OEM part is also $102, I've seen those Amazon parts actually melt.
That's hilarious! I ran against the same deal, well just about, and went to handlebar switch first also, then solenoid, knowing that i could jump, start and run.. I didn't go through all your teardown or tests, knowing it ran. though difference being my pump runs and my kill switch kills the motor when switched up. This will be interesting, knowing it worked till i goofed with the throttle.. nice to see you found yours, ty for vid.. i put my bike away for 4 years till now.. lol stay tuned.. :-)
My 2006 1100 V Star now has the same issue. Checked all the same things you did, all good, only thing left to check is the starter circuit cutoff relay. Hope you are still good and kicking.

Replaced the regulator along with the fried fuses and it's working now. Now, I just hope it stays good.
same bike but just buzzes its not the battery any ideas??
I’m definitely struggling with my 1100 I can jump power at the kill switch that in turn powers the cutoff relay and fuel pump but I still can’t get it to turn over at all from switch is their supposed to be power at blue and black switch wires at all or are they just both grounds help please anyone
I had the same issue however the kill switch still didnt prime the fuel pump. It clicks the solonoid and the bike cranks but no buzz from the pump... what do you think i should do?
Sounds like you're no getting enough power to the starter or a bas starter or solenoid.
OK-cracked open the housing so I can do what you did. Removed the one screw at the top but now have no idea about how to remove the switch. Your assistance please. Thanks
I can’t get the housing apart either
I went through the same thing
Thank you!!
i have a 2000 1100 classic that cut off on me while driving down the road ...made a horrid sound ,cut off and never turned back on ,only power and a low sounding click nothing else....someone please help .
Love your videos man!! Questions,I have a 08 650 vstar classic ,runs awesome,I run it for a hour or so ,shut it off try to start it again and nothing but a click from under the seat, then I wait 15 minutes or so and it starts right up, checked all connections ,any input would be appreciated, thanks
I have this same thing happening on a 2007 Yamaha vstar 1110 custom, I haven't tried just waiting I guess Ill do that today, I do not hear the fuel put engage either.
Any luck on solving you're problem?? I changed the starter relay and it's still doing the same shit, bad ground after it heats up?? checked all ground connections, any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks
@@keny8133 did u figure out ur problem
hey brother i have a yamaha vstar 650 from the 2008, i just changed the battery and tested the fuses everything seemed ok, today when i hit the kill switch and turned the bike on, it sounded like rattling and it wasn’t starting at all, and the lights were flickering, thoughts??
Sounds like the battery is having issues. Not charged? loose connection? A battery can show as fully charged and still have issues.
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 I just replaced the battery a month ago. Some people are saying it could be the starter?
@@magequin1 It could be the starter but you usually know when a starter is about to go bad. I will sometime work and sometimes not. Take a rubber mallet and tap the starter to see if that loosens anything up. Also, try to rock the bike back and forth while in gear. The teeth on the starter my not be lined up and this should align them.
You could also try to push start the bike just to make sure it isn't something else.
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 alright i’ll try that out! thank you my friend, i have a video of what it sounds like as well, maybe you’ll know the problem from the sound in the video, if you’re avaialable / free thank you so much
Thanks man!!!
why is there a fuel pump if it's a carb motor, the tank is above the carbs.............gravity ?
Tank is not completely above carbs, if you keep it full you don't need pump. The pump only runs when needed.
If I go outside because I've checked everything else and this is my problem and my bike has been down since November and I have skipped over this video for 4 months I'm just going to kick myself in the butt and throw myself on the ground and cry because I have missed a lot of nice days
Get it running?
Sometimes the gremlins are that small!!!! Hell...
yes, yes they are ... 😄
Sand paper or electrician in a can AKA WD FORTY!🤣
Dang that Sucks
Yea, but live and learn I guess, lol.
I’ve watched all three videos and have been yelling at my computer screen ever since you had the starter button start the bike three times. Then you went on to test a bunch of other crap when you were right there in the first place. Slow down and do the simplest thing first.
Not a good bike mechanic you are.
