Seriously the American system pisses me off so much sometimes. You have easier courses, legacy students, sport scholarships. It's just ridiculous and bloated beyond belief. It also increases inequality as some schools (like my own) don't have the money for hundreds of "clubs" to exaggerate about on an application.

You have to typically get at the very least 3 As to get into Oxbridge, write a focused personal statement about your chosen subject, pass the admission tests and pass the interviews. It varies in difficulty for courses. Not to mention that you can only apply to 5 universities, limiting your choice. But it's a lot cheaper than the American system.

In middle Europe we don't do any of this shit. You take test when you end high school which the whole country does (except the subjects may differ based on what school you went to and if you attended a grammar school then you choose some subjects) then some universities (usually the worse ones) choose just based on these results and your high school grades and then the better schools have their own entrance exams and the high school end exams just required of you to pass them. Basically you do the tests of the college you apply to and they take those who score the best. Also of course each course has its own test -specifically about the knowledge required for it. So there's no credit bullshit. You wanna get to a good school? The entrance tests are hard as hell and you need to know the subjects necessary for the course. You wanna get to a not so great one? Maybe some mediocre test and maybe your high school end test results will play a role.

He’s refused to take AP and even mostly honors classes his entire high school career, he always brags to me about his gpa being like a 3.8 or a 3.9 while mine has been up and down throughout the years but is currently sitting at a 3.4 (covid killed me man) but I have taken AP classes every year, and if I couldn’t take AP I was in honors. This is entirely dependent on what college you’re going to. Some colleges don’t give a shit if you took a bunch of APs if you did nothing outside of that. I didn’t start taking a lot of APs until senior year (I only took AP Calc, AP stats, AP micro, and AP psych) and I got accepted into all but one school I applied to. Don’t take APs just because it’s the harder class. If you believe you won’t thrive in that class, DONT TAKE IT. My best advice is to BALANCE, BALANCE, BALANCE your resume. Have activities that you did outside of school, write really damn good essays. I had an average SAT (only an 1130, never retook it) and only 4 APs on my transcript but still got accepted into UCI due to my balanced resume.

The moral is that you should do the classes that you can handle. Plus, with me, I won’t take many AP because I do fencing 3 times a week from 7-10 PM (Tuesday and Thursday) and saturdays 7-10 AM and I do golf and join clubs. I have all honors and I have a. 3.9 and a 4.2 weight gpa, and I don’t wanna take many AP because I will have to drop these activities that I love, and these things are what makes me stand out and be special.

Colleges understand that different schools have different opportunities for students. Just choose courses from what's available to you. Challenge yourself but don't overdo it either. An C in AP is worse than a B in Honors since it looks like you didn't have the self-awareness to know your own limits.

IIT or getting into these foreign Universities?

    • @nancy6921

Getting into IIT is tougher but when it comes to education universities like mit and Stanford have a upper hand
IIT is very difficult to get in but it's is merely a process of eliminating the population....bit if you are intelligent you can probably make the best in any universitiy....

What if I made a typing mistake in the number of participants of the National Math Olympiad.
I am from Paraguay and I got 1st in that, and I put it on my Common App of course, but I accidentally put one cero more. It had to be like this:
"Gold medal, Math Nationals (x2). Ranked 1st out of 45,000 participants"
    But I put 450,000 instead.
I hace already contacted my admissions officer to inform him about it. Was it the correct thing to do? I really did not mean to do that or exaggerate. I also attached to that email a photo with the gold medallists to give them proof of my honor.

MIT admissions does not just look at your course load. Sure, taking high level classes looks good to admissions, but MIT tells its future applicants that they would rather you take classes you enjoy as well (music, for example) than to only take the high level classes. This is something I read directly from their website.

So I didn’t try last year when all of my classes were at home and my gpa dropped to a 3.1. It’s my senior year now and I legitimately tried hard on all of my classes even tho I got kicked out of my honors classes and I got straight As and it boosted my gpa to an amazing 3.17. Now I feel like it’s pointless to try at all with only 1 semester left, I feel like I’ve lost most reason to try and I might as well just go to my community college for now.

Our schools here in India don't really offer AP classes. So if you wanna take one, it's your responsibility to study for them and then go to a centre. I'm currently in my freshman year and I'm think of taking the AP courses in 11 grade. For just one year, I think it's enough for me

@@notofficialpickles507 True. It's not quite my forte or target though. I had a class of precal starting off the year but I decided to drop it because I do not need extra stress, and last year was hellish. The 3 jobs I am stuck between being the things I might want are being a history teacher, a lawyer, or a pilot. And I see only one where advanced math understanding is required. I know the LSAT of law school does require some math, but that's mainly logic and reasoning. So I should be fine.
