"You don't get to sing a song if you have nothing to say"
My god, if the whole music industry could hear this. If every artist today could self-reflect on this thought.
Death is an idiot nxaaaa
I met him in Ethiopia a few months before he passed on, what a humble soul he was!! He shook my hand like i was very important and yes to him i was. Rest in peace Hero of Africa.

So sad to hear the passing of Tuku, one of my favorite musicians of all time.
I remember my first trip to Africa, I had only been there a few days and was on an overcrowded bus from Zimbabwe to Zambia and the bus stopped at a fueling station late at night. I knew little about Africa and even less about African music but when I heard the sweet musical tones that was probably Oliver and his band on the small speakers at the station I was hooked. My life was never the same again. I was lucky to see him perform twice in Melbourne many years later.
Shaney, yes you were lucky to have heard him in person.
I also had this feeling in Martinique when there was a car on the road every hour.
once once a woman stopped and we were in her family I think it was one of the most beautiful moments of life it was simple me her parents quiet the songs animals of nights
I discovered this man today, only to find that he died in 2019, what a shame.
I just discovered this guy today, and holy cow... I'm an instant fan. Much love from Kansas, Mr. Mtukudzi!
wow...... legend he is

You are right, each one of us is created to bring something special and unique to the world. For Oliver, it was Music. There comes someone like him once in a lifetime.
Le Grand Sapeur Tuku ws very outspoken and original luved him thn and nw sadly missed
Oh! I loved that. It’s you and you alone. Profound indeed. Can we just go back and find ourselves, who we are???😢
Such a humble African. I have learned so much from Baba Mtukuzi. How he understands and explain life and people as a whole is purely wisdom❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I first started listening to him in the mid-1980s while on assignment in Zimbabwe, and he's as wonderful now as he was then
Tuku is special, he will never be on past tense.
The oldman working with young stars 🙌🙌
Well done Dr Mtukudzi, you make us Zimbabweans proud. You are a blessing to us and the whole world at large.
"god don't duplicate talent, its only you and you alone and there's no better you than you" - Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SPECIAL MOMENT WITH M.R. OLIVER MTUKUDZI AND HIS BLACK SPIRIT. BLESSING FROM TAGANGA, COLOMBIAN CARIBBEAN.
A fab group and those female harmony vocals with their perfect pitch and tone are the icing on the cake !!!
Saw him last evening at live performance. He has wonderful stage presence and provided a two hour concert to a packed audience. He is a virtuoso - blending traditional sounds with contemporary style. See him live if you have the opportunity.
I ignored his concerts locally and it's soooooo true, You never know what you have till it's gone.
I miss this amazing man, you gave some sanity and voice of reason in our chaotic country,
Wow! There is no better you than YOU. Powerful words.
Raw talent. Authentic Tuku. Oneof the best to come out of ZImbabwe.
Rest in Eternal Peace Oliver Mtukudzi.
Indeed.. I do listen to you all day long!!!!! Thank you for great talent

100% man
Tuku is not bound by genre, belief system, or culture: he beautifully expresses the human condition common to all. That's art. I've been a Tuku fan for many years, and was so fortunate to finally see him perform live at Jazz Alley.

Listening in 2020. What a loss - but he has left us his music and experience
Blessed sounds from the soul of Zimbabwe. Such a talented man!
Music is one of the languages that bind all humans, spoken in many dialects, spanning the globe. You may not find every single facet personally pleasing, but its presence throughout all cultures is an unmistakable sign of our shared humanity.
Pure Roots music. Takes you to your good place with your feet planted firmly in the earth. This music is felt. It means whatever you mind can conjure and can be different each time. Always a big fan. Hoping to catch his concern sometime. Even if I have to travel a great distance. Kudos to the band and the 2 beautiful ladies singing backup vocals.
Sadly he is gone now
I am seeing Oliver for the first time on video but so familiar with his sonorous voice for years. Thank you for bringing this great musician to RUclips. Despite his greatness he still humbles himself. Great lesson indeed from a great man. I love his music even though I do not understand the language he sings in. Great man indeed.
he sings in Shona
This guy is amazing; his music hits the soul softly and lifely!. RIP SAMANYANGA!, ran into his youtube music after stumbling onto another great singing bird from Malawi,Gidde Chalamanda!! May your music inspire this & future generations!!
I,m Moza/xangana, I do not understand xhona anyhow TUKU's songs excites my heart and evokes spirits of all xanganas, particularly of my family-I'm very proud of TUKU; thanks god.

Well sound music, Its an honour to listen to this legend. I only had one chance to be in his live performance in my life. I would like to attend another live performance. He is a matured wine, he sings wisdom. Thanks for the great music indeed
Sings like an angel
Few months back one night I listened "Neria" more than 100 times...
Falling love with that song
We here on the day he left this world. Your God given gift brought to the world. From the streets of Norton to the world... Thank you for gracing the world...
The greatest musician to come out of Zimbabwe. Legend!

His voice is so smooth, damn ♥️
Turns ur solemnity into joy,a lugubrious atmosphere is transmogrified into a sphere of hope as tensions are diffussed.......A true cultural icon and Shona brand ambassador truly patience and pespiration pays!!!
The legend himself. Pure genius.
This is a great video. I just saw them live last night and it was--words can't even describe it. It was amazing. He's a huge, charismatic presence and all of them are stunning musicians. So much love and joy. If you get a chance to see them, do it.
Music that touches the soul. RIP Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi
I like how he says "please" when requesting for a song
Elder forever legendary - thanks KEXP ✊🏿
This music arose a lot of emotions. Without even hearing what is being said, the instruments does the best work of connecting you to the sphere he is /was when playing. Thanks Dr Mutukudzi.
could listen to this band all day, just awesome
😻 Beautiful,I am so happy I visit this video😻
This Is Awesome pure and simple
The smile of that woman who’s wearing white is the reason why I always come back here so priceless 🔥
Love the way he speaks!!! So much emphasis on sharing his talent and in fact giving it away. So gracious and kind!!! Thankyou KEXP for bringing this to us!!! ❤️
I now know that the real universal language that exist among humanity is music, even though I don't understand the language in the songs but I can feel the message, message of peace, self belief and universal happiness.
The Don "aside from silence, music is the only language capable of expressing the inexpressible" -Aldus Huxley
Spot on 👍
I'm a massive Thomas Mapfumo fan but i have to say Tuku owned this interview here like a boss. In terms of Zim music, Tuku and Mapfumo are way ahead of everyone. I'd be nice if they recorded a song or 2 together.
During Ian Smith's time, they used to perform together in Harare and Gweru before they split with members from the band they shared to form Black Spirits and Blacks Unlimited respectively.
We have a daughter who has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal... she loves Tuku so much... we were planning to either invite Tuku to our home or take her to his concert that did not happen due to his illness and eventual passing... May your soul rest in peace Tuku; looking forward to seeing and meeting in the next life.
such a respectful message. may God bless you and your family. God bless Africa
Greatest zim artist , music as well as cultural ambassador of my beloved country Zimbabwe , munendipasa manyemwe mdara .
"You don't get to sing a song if you've nothing to say" that's what we lack in today's social media artists most of them got nothing to say
So beautiful voices.. Ooh my God
I have no idea what they are saying, but this is absolutely beautiful.
yu are in the right way bbie
That's the beauty of music. I do that with Congolese music.
First he is from Zimbabwe, he was on a tour...
He songs in shona dialect called korekore
He is in essence saying being ungrateful is a form of witchcraft.... Thats the theme of the song... Song on 8 min
Song on 15 mins
He is saying
Everything in life you have to ask from the owner....
You cannot just take whats not yours...
He gives examples in the song
He also says
There is noone who is inferior to another.. So jus ask from the owner even though he might look inferior to you.... Thats what he is singing....
The best in jazz all over Africa we still love you
He was great artist, I always enjoy his songs especially Wenge Mambo
even though people in general can't do without it but at times they don't give it the respect it deserves
Mtukudzi is just great!! Listen to his Tiny Desk Concert - the talent is great. I agree you can listen to his music all day
this is the place to hangout in 2020 " take care of values"
Here is something special.
This man is far more than just his music.
His teachings, his outlook and his deep intuition is something to soak in to your bones.
Listen, enjoy.
Breathe it in, feel yourself growing, and all you have to do, is sit there and take it in.
I've heard that the best things in life are free, and now I am quite sure that this is true.......
Zimbabwean...one of the greats in my homeland. Gotta love Tuku!!
I miss this voice and lyrics that came from Zimbawe to our house on the Indian Ocean, in Mozambique.
May your soul rest in eternal peace. Your beautiful and unique music shall live on.
May his soul rest in eternal peace
This interview was actually so beautiful. Welldone, learnt so much about the late Oliver. beautiful music too!
RIP Samanyanga. You will be missed legend.
Indeed talent is silent and humble but distinct and undeniable. It is amazing how Oliver Mutukudzi is a powerhouse of musical talent but does not seem to fully realise it. Maybe talent is also blind. Listen to his lyrics and rhythm and you will surely get a quenching of the yearnings of an inquisitive musical soul. Hands up TUKU.
Lol! He knew it, he was just a humble person who wanted others to shine also.
Loved it, great to see Tuku still performing
