- The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters-multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterised by a fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements and futuristic iconography.[3] After Wood's departure in 1972, Lynne became the band's sole leader, arranging and producing every album while writing nearly all of their original material. For their initial tenure, Lynne, Bevan and keyboardist Richard Tandy were the group's only consistent members.
ELO was formed out of Lynne's and Wood's desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. It derived as an offshoot of Wood's previous band, the Move, of which Lynne and Bevan were also members. During the 1970s and 1980s, ELO released a string of top 10 albums and singles, including two LPs that reached the top of British charts: the disco-inspired Discovery (1979) and the science-fiction-themed concept album Time (1981). In 1986 Lynne lost interest in the band and disbanded the group. Bevan responded by forming his own band, ELO Part II, which later became the Orchestra. After a brief reunion from 2000-01, ELO remained largely inactive until 2014, when Lynne re-formed the band again with Tandy as Jeff Lynne's ELO.

This is crazy, but here goes:
I heard this song that was originally released in 1975
in a game called GTA IV that was released in 2008
and looked it up because I recognised the sample used in a Daft Punk song (Face to Face) released in 2001
And I'm only finding out about it now and making the connections in 2023

I am a Beatles fanatic but i can recognize Jeff Lynne's ELO's greatness. It took 4 Beatles and George Martin to accomplish what Jeff Lynne has done musically all by himself. Of course, by popularity and COMMERCIALLY, The Beatles are no 1 but musically Jeff Lynne rules. Jeff Lynne is better with Harmonies, Orchestration, as an incredible Producer, singer and songwriter. No wonder why all the Beatles loved Lynne's work and why he worked with them on so many music projects.

I remember ELO being all over the radio in the 70's. I was a kid then, but, I am thrilled to have been in existence with classics like this all over the air waves. Peace !

Another great band from the 70's. What a unique sound, songs like Livin' Thing, Telephone Line and Mr. Blue Sky, freaking classics. My favorite is still EVIL WOMAN. Glad they made the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME, they deserved it.

My dad first introduced me to this band when I was very young, maybe 6 or 7. He had a compilation know an ipod and played it often and i knew the songs inside out very quickly. Now I'm 14 and have Spotify and can explore my own stuff and elo will always have a special place in me. Love them so much. Thank you for the many amazing memories.
