  • @JamesRDavenport

    I'm an American.
The last times I recall crying were over my best friend's body after he had just passed away from brain cancer, he wasn't yet 21 years old. I made sure I was alone with his body before I did, refused to let his mother see it.
And during the movie Black Hawk Down when the two Delta Force guys descended from their chopper to defend an injured fellow servicemen from an angry mob of Somalis. The Elite Deltas gave their lives. Their lifeless bodies were dragged through the street by those animals like trophies. I recalled while watching the film seeing the actual footage of that event on the news as a kid. It moved and angered me how we spent those lives for nothing.
The later event's tears were far fewer though than the loss of my friend.
All that said, we are becoming a civilzation of jelly boys.

There is a certain time and place for everything, even crying but doesn't mean you need to everyday almost every hour. Mental fortitude is needed, not just testosterone, they can just have soft feeling's. Higher amount of testosterone can be hairline, beard, body hair, muscle mass, bone density, recovery speed (fights, gym, etc). So this is a complicated thing.

  • @user-wj1im8rl7p

I think a problem here is that you used online enterntainment as broad examples of men crying more. Since there is a large incentive to get more views, you as a creator might decide to do over the top displays of emotionality, be it excitement, anger or sadness. The squid games examples they likely show heavily edited footage that might take one scene where a character is showing emotion and stick it to a completely seperate event. Hell they probably incentivize the people on those shows to show exaggerated emotions in order to get more footage like that.
Love the Deus Ex music in the background btw.

Crying rules. I think some people cry too much or too easily, in the sense that they probably could benefit from seeing a therapist. I cry over songs, movies and television series way too easily. But idk, it's mostly because I just don't feel the need to resist it. I can and do hold it in around certain people though, and it's really impressive how its IMPOSSIBLE to resist crying when I'm alone, but when I'm around most masculine males, I find it impossible to cry about anything.

The example from neflix's squid game show is not good example. netflix wants drama for rating therefore they: select people who more dramatic, incourage people to be dramátic, and use selective edits to change context. Also netflix known to starve, sleep deprive and give no rest to contestants which would affect their mental. Not really indicative of how folks are moving day to day.

It is crying like a woman. To get a reward. Womens social currency is also emotions. Men cannot trade these for any benefit. It is even more accepted to show rage as a man then to show sadness or worse, weakness. I guess it is an evolutionary trait. Can't fight predators when overly emotional. Men trst their resilience by jokes and playfights. To harden your sroicism, cause women select for it. The call for being emotional is just a trst from them. As they tend to do with Men. They want something different from what they claim though. An emotionally stable Men who shows select emotions for the specific Woman only, which also benefits her. Weak towards her only, not others while also being in a narrow frame of excepted expression. Men who slay tend to be more emotionally cold. Talking about Emotions makes you her best friend, not a Lover.

The brain looks for the best ways to use as less energy as possible, and crying in response to the mildest of inconveniences instead of handling the situation responsibly (like actual adults), is their way to preserve that energy. And it's even more easy to tell since they most of these reactions are being published in social media for attention and validation
