As a plumber I agree. Nothing is more cringing than having to destroy someone’s home in order to get to a tub/shower valve. Especially when irreplaceable tile or very expensive woodwork is involved.
I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.
I love that very first side table that has the secret compartments for money, travel docs, and weapons can be out of sight, but quickly accessed by key. Pretty neat!
A couple of hints from from an old long time security builder.....1). Install your latch/key onto somewhere other than the secret door itself.- 2). Use stainless piano hinge for large swinging shelves/bookcases along with white rubber caster under opposite side. 3). Always make a hiding place inside of your hiding place. ( Once a space is discovered....people quit searching )
6:43 the staircase that can transform into a ramp looks like a great idea to increase wheelchair access when there isn't space for a conventional ramp :D the depth of the stairs makes the slope longer which makes it more usable for wheelchairs etc. Also might make it easier for ambulance gurneys to more smoothly take and injured or sick person out of the building. Sucks if the power goes out though :/
I thought it was hilarious that the narrator said they were trying to hide their stairs.😂 Who writes this stuff? Admittedly though, I could totally see myself having one of those "moments" and saying something similar before thinking it through. (all too familiar feeling)
I love this idea to accommodate wheelchair access! Great for accommodating friends or family who need this when visiting! It is just awful to not be able in include an acquaintance because of your lack of access for them!!!
I whas about to comment the same, is not a "concealed" staircase. Just switches from steps to ramp and it's quite useful. However the guy commenting the video just have no idea what he is talking about.
@@rogertaylor7433 Plenty of room for a backup power bank under the ramp, also if you got the money for stairs like those then you probably already have your whole house on a battery backup/generator and can afford it.
Second tip. Do NOT build a secret door that opens and closes by itself because it would take too long during a break-in of a robbery home invasion for the door to open and close. Instead build a door that you can open and close with your hand like any regular door so you can control the speed of opening and shutting the door. Also, make sure to put padding where the door makes contact with the wall along the edges so it will not make a banging sound if you are trying to hide in it during a robbery and not give away to robbers you have run into that space during an invasion.
Or, better y3t, make the inside of your walls traversible and have removable peek holes so you can simply shoot them from the walls and maybe have some kind of system screaming "GET OUT" and "LEAVE THIS ACCURSED HOME" and scarier things like " IM LOOKIN FOR BOOTY AND YOU JUST OFFERED TRIBUTR"
I saw a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright from the 1950’s in northern Indiana that had a built in sideboard with a TV that lifted up with a remote. FLW was notorious about his hatred of a TV distracting from his design and refused to allow them to be put into any home he designed. This was a good solution to both him and his client.
I built a hidden room/closet under the stairs to the basement. It was behind the bookcase/door. I mostly used it for storage and valuables. This was eight years ago!
I would like to see some affordable solutions for those on a strict budget and perhaps some ideas for the disabled child or adult! Have some ideas? For example, a built bed that does not look or feel like a dungeon or crib but would allow for lifting? What about secret furniture that can be accessed by a disabled senior with built ins for mobility issues of getting up, secret hidden spots and wheelchair accessible?
Nobody would be astonished about my secret room or how to get into it because I wouldn't show anyone. That's how you keep it a secret. I can't imagine spending tons of money on a custom super secret room and then bringing people over and showing it to them. Kind of kills the concept doesn't it?
It defeats the purpose of having a secret room if you tell people about it. Unlike many people I meet I'm perfectly comfortable and capable of showing self restraint while not exposing every iota of my life to perfect strangers on the internet. Or even people I know in real life.
@@ratsumatra3003 you are a wise man. I could learn alot from a guy like you. I'm getting ready to build my own secret room. Any advice? Where is yours?
Oh thanks but a lady never tells all her secrets. Lol. I can give you this though, in my old house there was an extension we found off the upstairs bathroom. A closet provided access to otherwise inaccessible attic space. The kids never found me when we played hide and seek. I strongly believe that if you want your special area to stay secretive then don't tell anyone. Utilize the space you have and think outside of the box. Best of luck.
I like the Murphy doors with a hidden book key. Afterwards of installation, you can put a cross bar across the door to keep your family safe from any kind of threat.
Stairs to wheel chair ramp is the best. Black book case with toe panel fails.... panel stays up when reclosed. Hinged door in floor shows hinges and catches pull cord from inside. Overlapping rug would hide everything.
I feel like the secret doors that require like doing 3 things and then waiting for it to slowly open and such are kinda missing the point. The security comes from the stealth, not whatever locks and secret steps and such you put in place on it like a traditional vault. All you really need is the ability to deadbolt it from inside. That way you can minimize the amount of time and effort it takes to get into the room and then maximize the amount of security you would have once inside. Even if it's trivial to open normally even potentially by accident, that doesn't really matter because once you deadbolt it in place, the fact that it looks like another random wall or bookshelf will only further be enhanced since they can no longer actually open it.
The rock wall was very cool, however it left marks on the carpet showing its movement pattern. I love the hidden plumbing the best for it's usefulness.
I’ve always liked the idea of the bookcase revealing a small room, or a downstairs area or what not, but that’s as corny as it sounds, always been one of my favorites whether it’s something that’s hidden well enough to where you only have to use your hand itself to pull it open or a book unlocking the door, I’ve seen other videos that showcase things like that and animal simplistic manner, that kind of thing I think would be awesome.
4:26 Only the bright hinges give it away. 5:27 Does this retract into the wall? Otherwise the open side glass display here defeats the purpose. 'Hidden Door in Stone Wall' was my favorite. Very nicely hidden and least obvious. Nice video!
@4:25mins how is that a secret door when I can see the hinges? No doubt I can block it with some furniture or carpet, but it will be such a hassle to remove it just to access the door
glue the rug to the door. Overlap an inch of rug on the floor. Should cover the seams and hinges. Cabinet on the other part of the free floor gives reason for the rug.
Exactly, AND all that space wasted to "STORE" a TV. We have an 80 inch TV and it's the FOCAL point of the room. You can cast to the TV: artwork, or anything you want.
One tip of advice if you will build a hidden room, if you have kids don't tell them about the hidden room/s because kids can NOT keep a secret and they will eventually blurt out the secret to everyone outside the house. Instead, keep the hidden room a secret from your kids and if an emergency occurs, have blindfolds ready to put on your kids so that when you bring your kids to the room during lets say a break-in, the kids won't know where you are bringing them into with the blindfolds on. Then, when it's time to bring the kids out of the hidden room in which you MUST all remain silent during the break-in, put the blindfolds back on your kids and remove the blindfolds when you have walk far away from the hidden room on exit of it.
Yes, because in addition to one random home invasion, you'd want to keep the room a secret from your kids in case of a second random home invasion. And in your wild dreams, do you actually think you'd have time to grab blindfolds, wake your kids, place them on each kid, guide them to the entrance of the secret room, then guide them down a staircase or ladder? And no one will ever hear you creaking across the floor to the secret room location while making sure each kid doesn't bump into a wall. Your fantasy must include a real inept home-invader, because how long do you think it takes someone to break into a home through a door or window? A minute tops. Yeah, ok. Someone's watching too many movies.
If you are mid break in and have the thought to go get the blindfold to protect the secret from your kid, you need to SERIOUSLY rethink your priorities. At that point just grab the kid and take him to the room. God forbid he tells someone AFTER the intended purpose was utilized.
Chances are you're going to tell the police about the safe room anyway post break in, and that will get documented into a report. A report that could be pulled via an open records request. Also bet you will feel stupid when their is a break in while your kid is home alone and ends up dead when you could have told him where to hide.

Is it really a "hidden staircase" or do you think it might possibly be a _ramp_ for wheelchair access. Doesn't seem like you thought of that…
Far to many adds
I love the idea with tiled panels to hide access to plumbing! All houses should have easy access.
I've got different tiles, but the same secret door for plumbing compartments.
As a plumber I agree. Nothing is more cringing than having to destroy someone’s home in order to get to a tub/shower valve. Especially when irreplaceable tile or very expensive woodwork is involved.
The only thing I would be concerned with is how waterproof the seals are.
Until you're dealing with all kinds of rust, mold, and water damage from your leaking tiles with metal hinges.
