Yeah, I co-authored a paper about panda's mating habits. During covid, when left to their own devices, they had zero problems mating. The mating issue is a man-made issue. It's like the saying "a watched pot never boils." Give them privacy and they're fine. Their biggest issue in the wild is just habitat fragmentation and poaching for traditional Chinese medicine like many animals across the planet. Leave them to their own alone and they're just fine. If we want them to survive on their own they just need connected wildlife corridors and privacy. They'd be perfectly fine. Still small in numbers because they have a limited range, but stable.
I feel like a lot of people infantilize nature. Protecting nature doesn’t mean we inject ourselves into the process to make it how we want it. We just need to minimize our impact on the natural world and it’ll keep on doing it’s thing.
There have also been studies that a male and female Panda will not just mate because of proximity. The female will not accept a male who hasn’t “won” her. Observed pandas in the wild typically didn’t mate until after two males fight over the female. Similar behavior is seen in Brown Bears. I remember also reading a study about Grizzly bears but I’m more familiar with Brown and Black Bears.

Pandas did try to adapt to the bamboo…not by making their body vegan capable but by making them weaker physically. And this stunted their brains so badly they can’t adapt to anything else ever again yet somehow they are still screamingly alive
That's the interesting thing about the Polar Bear situation: If I had to guess, they would go extinct, but their evolutionary branch wouldn't die out, since they can produce fertile offspring with grizzly bears. This means the rising temperature is allowing more Grizzly Bears to crossbreed with Polar Bears, potentially saving the lineage, even if the species itself does go extinct.

Then, just give them what they need (areas with the right bamboo and privacy) and they'll be fine.
I didn’t finish the video but I’m gonna say this anyway.
