The 'Magic' of slash chords is a well known device in pop ballads, used by Bacharach, Carol King, Laura Nyro, Wonder and many others. The 'second in the bass' chord is especially popular. What is really happening is you are adding those upper tensions. In this case, an 11 chord. So a Em7/C is really just a CMaj9. Stick the G over C and you have a 13. Guitar players love to drone a bass string and play chords from the scale on top of it. Try it out! Most of them sound great. I like it because it is easier than figuring out those upper numbers.
Never compliment one RUclipsr by bashing another RUclipsr' Channel. You could have just compmimented this channel more and left the negative off. There are different teachers for different people on different levels and genres. Simply Piano is for Christian Musicians who play chord piano for several genres. You will not understand it unless you start from the beginning. Now I am going to sit back and learn my lesson here. So happy to have so many teachers to learn from.

I loved the outcome of the sound of the first technique you teach about the minor & major. As a beginner its hard for me to reach using my pinky finger. Because i only using inversion chords. Its hard to adopt that technique because my finger muscle memory can only use inversion. But i loved the tone sound of that style even its hard for me to do it.

So looking at this bonus I see that it's a modified C major ninth (sus2+5+7) follows by a F major ninth (sus2+5+7) and the G mixed with the (F Maj). Hope I am ryt my senior 😂

For Em (in the key of C), the trick I've shown you will include F#, because you'll be using the "shape" built on G. This might or might not sound ok to you, depending on context - some people like this "out of scale" sound, some don't. If you don't just switch the F# note to a G. So: LH: E B E RH: G A D G (or G A D F#)

Well yes I agree you should not in fact play an A major chord by playing an A minor chord…(as shown in the thumb nail) though I’m not sure anyone was particularly confused about that
So let me guess this straight. You were playing a major chord in your left hand while playing its relative minor chord in your right hand arpeggiated and vice versa. Except for the dominant fifth of the key? Kind of mind bending but it might explain why I cant seem to program good piano arpeggios. I think I have been too rigid in my thinking.
The "Minor chord thumbnail" with the "Major chord title" seems like a clever intentional move to get more clicks from non-total-beginners who can already play Major chords (in a not so optimal way perhaps) so they are able to notice that the thumbnail is wrong (according to the title) so they click on this wrong thumbnail and they will probably watch your video before commenting "Your title says Major but you play a Minor chord on the thumbnail!" and then they actually learn how they should play Major chords better because at that point they finished watching your video, so in the end your title "Stop Playing Major Chords like This!" becomes a reality and they actually stop playing major chords like this. :) It seems you not only see how music theory works but you also know how "RUclips theory" works. I wish you good luck for you and for your channel, I saw some of your videos when I was still a high schooler and tried to learn improvising a little bit from RUclips because my classical school didn't care/know improv at all. Ah, this is actually a stock sound from the Nord Stage 3. They layer two of their e-piano patches (Ballad EP2 and Hybrid EP), although I suppose that doesn't tell you too much ...
Nord Stage 3. It's pricey, but don't think you need to spend a lot of money to get beautiful sounds! Learn to *layer* sounds in your DAW or synth, which will get you very far (this sound is actually two different electric pianos layered). Try watching this: ruclips.net/video/-y7Us71BFII/видео.html
Your magic trick seems familiar to the part about voicing major chords. I see some sort of familiar shape of notes played if you shift your bass notes up to the right hand. Just a hunch.

@@MangoldProject i just meant like for major chords instead of remembering a semitone, a perfect fourth and so on i can just remember to stack the 5 chord ontop starting from the inversion of the note right next to the root which is easier
I heard it referred to as the Herbie Hancock chord (which is stupid, no one invents voicings). And, yes, Copland's harmonies use a lot of fourths and his harmonies on Appalachian Spring are some of my favorite. I actually use a lot of the voicings from the last movement in my playing, especially creating dissonance with the bass and resolving it through motion.

Thanks Jonathan, and your comment isn't odd at all. This is the great moral question of RUclips: Should one appeal to a lower common, sensationalist denominator to attract an audience? The truth is that these thumbnails and titles work. This video has attracted more viewers than any of my previous ten videos. My teaching style will probably always remain the same, but as time goes pack I'll just adjust and repackage it to fit the audience and medium (so, next thumbnail: strippers and lines of coke!).

Well, you should definitely stop playing MINOR chords if you're trying to play MAJOR chords ;) And, as the old philosophical saying goes, if a tree falls in a forest but no one hears it, does it make a sound? I've had many elaborate, well thought-out videos that failed miserably specifically because their title was precise and informative but lacked any emotional appeal. I'm willing to live in the slightly imperfect world where I keep on making good content (hopefully!), but also use more emotional, "bait-y" titles to make sure my efforts don't go to waste. Consider it my tuition :). Have fun practicing!
This is totally unusable. You add a lot of extra notes in the "advanced" way, so of course it has a broader sound. How about playing the same notes in both ways (1st, 3rd and 5th only), so we can actually hear the difference?
Try replacing chords in your favorite songs with these voicings and you'll see it doesn't work. Making a chord "sus" or "add" is not a variation, it's completely different, a quality by itself. Saying "This is our Dm voicing" and playing a chord with tensions or sus isn't right as you should call chords by their proper name. For instance, a sus chord isn't major or minor, that's the point, you can't just tell people to play a sus whenever they see a major chord. Telling people to stop using triads (the backbone of harmony) because your way is better isn't just limiting, but arrogant and misinforming.

This chord is the Aaron Copland chord. You can hear it all over his 'Appalachian Spring' movement

As long as the basic C, E, G, B is in there, it's still a C major (7th) chord. It just has extensions.

Those chords are nice sure, but if the song doesn't require them then don't play them. Your ears will tell you what sounds good for a particular song.

And, as the old philosophical saying goes, if a tree falls in a forest but no one hears it, does it make a sound? I've had many elaborate, well thought-out videos that failed miserably specifically because their title was precise and informative but lacked any emotional appeal. I'm willing to live in the slightly imperfect world where I keep on making good content (hopefully!), but also use more emotional, "bait-y" titles to make sure my efforts don't go to waste. Consider it my tuition :).

This is totally unusable. You add a lot of extra notes in the "advanced" way, so of course it has a broader sound. How about playing the same notes in both ways (1st, 3rd and 5th only), so we can actually hear the difference?
Try replacing chords in your favorite songs with these voicings and you'll see it doesn't work. Making a chord "sus" or "add" is not a variation, it's completely different, a quality by itself. Saying "This is our Dm voicing" and playing a chord with tensions or sus isn't right as you should call chords by their proper name. For instance, a sus chord isn't major or minor, that's the point, you can't just tell people to play a sus whenever they see a major chord. Telling people to stop using triads (the backbone of harmony) because your way is better isn't just limiting, but arrogant and misinforming.
It is not arrogant to show people possibilities.
