Godzilla x Kong The New Empire was the only movie in the Monsterverse where it showed Godzilla swimming in freshwater in that river in Egypt. Since in almost every movie from 1954 till now he is always shown swimming in saltwater.

Also he is more aerodynamic thus he is faster and swim fast even with the upside forward dorsals also chin can make more speed through the water and air

This video is on purpose not exhaustive. It's an overview of the evolution of Godzilla underwater/swimming/walking on water with at least 1 movie per decade. But you're right, we missed the Millennium Era (1999-2004)...

It's more accurate to say that until Godzilla minus one, the Japanese Godzillas waded (I know this was due to limitations in technology of the times) and that the monsterverse Godzilla was the "first" to truly swim

Besides godzilla swimming underwater, so can gamera.
You forgot scenes in Godzilla Raids Again (where he's swimming towards Osaka and a brief shot of him swimming amongst the icebergs) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (him swimming towards Iwa Island just prior to his battle with the Mothra larvae)
